Russell Martin will especially be happy to hear the overwhelming support he has from Silverstein and the American majority ownership. 1 Ask Jake, click above.

| Russell Martin is a true football visionary on 15:21 - Oct 22 with 1104 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Martin will not rock the boat and understands the process the club is going through. The owners have given him time to develop the team and the teams culture. He has to show some loyalty in return and not jump and the next vacancy in Brighton or Norwich. Fans complaining about the US owners have no where to go. They have invested a significant sum of fresh capital. The fans should be asking more of their own organisation the Trust. I have never seen any of them speak on camera like this. | |

I think it's a bit soon to be heaping extraordinary praise on him, we have still achieved very little yet. If he achieves this season, if we get promotion and go on to build something really great, then with hindsight heap that praise on him. Or even if we make the play offs and narrowly miss ut, praise him. Right now it seems a tad premature, its just hyperbole, talking him up. Soundbites for the fans?

| Russell Martin is a true football visionary on 22:51 - Oct 22 with 829 views | Dr_Parnassus | Jake is hardly going to say anything other than that. Let’s be honest here, Russell Martin is anything but a visionary, a dreamer and an idealist maybe - but a visionary he most certainly is not. No footballing visionary persists with a goal kick routine last seen in the circus for so long. He is still yet to finish in the top half in his career and it’s clear he still clearly wants to play his style that we all know doesn’t work, and that he can’t work out why it doesn’t win games. My feeling is he knows very little about the tactical side of the game hence is inability to get his style working, prefers comfort rather than challenge (often deflects into the future or never-never that take immediate responsibility) and cares more about what people think of him than how they will remember him - image over achievements. Having said that, as long as he continues to toe the line and play this more sensible way then I’m happy enough for him to stay. How long that will last is anyone’s guess, it already feels like it’s on the cusp of returning. | |

The fans ownership have been predictably pathetic serving only self interest. Silverstein is putting them to shame. A 'talking horse' who's cash has bought in some real'good players one of whom has already be sold paying off all the bills. Its easy to criticise but getting a lot harder. The mouthy nobodies have deserted the ship have you noticed?

His job is to promote the brand and instil confidence. It’s realism as opposed to negativity, Russell Martin is being called a ‘true footballing visionary’, the bloke has been average at best (often horrendous) for most of his career barring this latest run where ironically he has ditched his vision. Same if someone called Liam Cullen a true footballing icon. Disagreeing with that statement shouldn’t be seen as negative, it’s just simply common sense. [Post edited 20 Jun 2023 19:18]

I disagree. The problem is all the unrealistic praise all the time, people don’t connect with it so add realism which is then seen as negativity, that makes people want to be even more overly positive and you get the ying and yang effect. If this heading was “horrific for 14 months but finally putting it together after adopting a better style of play” you wouldn’t get anyone disagreeing. People are only deemed as negative when they redress the balance of ludicrous and obvious hyperbolic praise like this. He’s doing ok, we are a playoff side and he’s sat just outside them after wasting the first 6 games (and 46 games last season). He needs to keep it going and keep winning the trust that he’s thrown his rubbish vision away, that trust will take time to restore and won’t come back overnight. I have never witnessed a manager of any club attract so much praise for achieving so little in all my days following the sport, “cult like” has been mentioned a few times and it’s hard to disagree. I will just continue to just be realistic, just as I was with Cooper - Cooper is an excellent manager but would never describe him as a true footballing visionary either, and what he has achieved in his short career isn’t even in the same realm as Russ. If Russ continues to play this way and continues to have us in and around the playoffs then nobody can argue, he will be doing his job well. But anyone saying he’s a football visionary or anything of that Ilk just isn’t being realistic.

You are probably on about the manager. If that’s the case I would say he has been at the club long enough to preside over the first derby double and currently to lead the club to the higher echelons of the championship. Not forgetting the recent fantastic run of results not seen in a very long time.

Fantastic post there Keith, a post that can't be argued with because it's true. Unfortunately that truth you post will be put to one side and excuses made for the previous 14 months AND done so with opinions passed off as fact. Unfortunately Keith, people either get it or don't.....some life to look for issues and some for conflict, we could be top of the prem and 10 points clear and people will moan and others trying to prove themselves better than others. Unfortunately there are people like this walking and posting between us 🙈
