They tapped him up before the season end, and then tried to shaft us out of rightful compensation.

That is the major problem for me, the lack of learning and putting previous mistakes right.
Whoever wrote the contract and/or agreed to it needs a right kick up the rear. For such a big financial contract then al avenues and aspects should have been covered and that is truly concerning. |  |

The correct way is approach the club and agree terms with said person after the club agrees to the approach
But it goes like this
Get in contact with the person first and agree or virtually agreed and then approach the club.
