| Burnham on Fuel Prices on 11:53 - Sep 28 with 1471 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | I’ve been making this point for years, in many cases over half of what you pay at the pump is tax. The government bang on about cost of living but they have this one simple fix that they always conveniently ignore. They could make peoples lives easier overnight. It’s all well and good telling people to use public transport in places like London where there are incredibly good transport link, but the reality for the vast majority of the country is that getting to work by car is literally the only option. | |

From where I live I would probably have to catch 3 or 4 buses to get to Morriston hospital. It would take hours. It’s probably a 15 minute drive by car. It’s all well and good for them to say use public transport but when public transport is unbelievably shite (and getting more expensive all the time) it’s not a remotely viable option for 95% of the country. But then these politicians often forget that there is a country outside the M25 that they are also responsible for.

Indeed so! Down this part of the world the bus service is best described as partial or not at all. In some places the buses only come once every two hours, and in others if you want to get from A to B you have to go on a complete and utter detour journey by having to travel miles away from a chosen end destination to get to Swansea Quadrant and then catch a completely different numbered second bus from there. These idiots with their net-zero idiocy and green environmentalism obviously do not know how the real world works!!!!

| Burnham on Fuel Prices on 13:44 - Sep 28 with 1374 views | Boundy | Thers a huge diference between chosing to do something and being unable to do something , this bunch ( has to be the worst of a very bad lot for decades) choses not to do anything but keep raking in the windfall that they'll spend on welfare , illegal immigrants and foreign aid "Seven EU countries and other European countries outside the EU have already decided to make substantial tax cuts – excise duties and VAT – to limit the impact of the fuel crisis on economies and consumers. Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain were the first EU member states to reduce excise duties on petroleum products, and Ireland recently joined them. In addition, Spain has also reduced the VAT rate on gasoline and diesel from 21% to 10%, says Adina Vizoli, Partner at PwC Romania. The most substantial excise duty reduction was achieved by Italy, by 30% on both gasoline and diesel, or 20 eurocents per liter (equivalent to 1 leu per liter), while Portugal lowered excise duty levels by 21% on diesel (reductions of 7.6 eurocents per liter), falling below the minimum threshold required by the European Commission. Poland has also intervened forcefully in the fuel market, after being among the EU countries most affected by price increases. Last Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the reduction of VAT on petroleum products from 23% to 8% and the cutting of excise duties, along with the introduction of maximum selling prices. Other European countries that have already cut fuel taxes include Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Iceland. Even the Norwegian Parliament voted last week to lower fuel taxes. Although some Member States have implemented or announced measures to reduce the VAT rate applicable to fuels, it is important to underline that such measures are not, in principle, in line with European VAT legislation. According to Directive 2006/112/EC on the common system of value added tax, which must be transposed by Member States, reduced VAT rates may be applied exclusively to supplies of goods and services listed in Annex III to the Directive, and fuels are not among these products. https://www.energynomics.ro/en Therefore, in the absence of an explicit derogation granted at European Union level (as was the case, for example, with the zero rates introduced for certain essential products during the SARS‑CoV‑2 pandemic), the application of a reduced VAT rate for fuels contravenes the European legal framework in force and Member States that have introduced such measures risk an infringement procedure by the European Commission. Romania has the fifth highest excise tax on diesel in the EU (55 eurocents per liter) and the eighth highest excise tax on gasoline (60 eurocents per liter), according to centralized data from the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin. However, the high deficit limits the options for intervention by reducing taxes. The government is currently discussing reducing excise taxes, initially only on diesel, according to the latest public statements. An initial reduction of 5% is being considered, which could be extended in stages up to 25%, depending on the evolution of oil prices and pump prices. | |

| Burnham on Fuel Prices on 15:30 - Sep 28 with 1306 views | SullutaCreturned | It's worse than 86p I think! I believe 38% is fuel duty (the green levy?) and then there's VAT @20% which is charged after the fuel duty is added so we are effectively being taxed on a tax which adds another 7.6% to the price. Having just looked google reckons that if you pay £1.69.9p per litre then over 81p is tax, if a tank cost £93 then over £44 is tax. Burnham is another disingenuous politician, there is a lot he could do. They gave us 5p off so they know what they need to do, they just won't. | | | |

The Russian and Indian oil and gas supply has been decimated by the war in Ukraine which was started by Russia as evidenced by the huge spike on prices after the Invasion. Two major markets are now much reduced not just the Middle East.

Gordon Clown did it years ago when he came to the Senedd. Took the train to Cardiff with full media presence. What he failed to mention was that a ministerial car came from London to pick him up from Cardiff train station!

The whole of Europe is sitting on vast reserves of fuel, which they could easily release. However, that would help Trump and his mid-term elections, as the price of fuel comes down worldwide. I'm guessing Europe may act after the mid-terms. It seems electoral power is far more important than their own suffering citizens.

The refineries are profiteering from this. A lot. A certain politician has a husband with £7m of shares in a certain oil company. So they are not going to rock the boat. I will say no more. As you know, I sell the stuff.
