Ben Asker -could have been a great

Justin channing - always played well When called upon

Mark falco - so underated

Ian Dawes - criminal that we got rid of him for Mark Dennis

Mark Stein - wish he stayed longer , great little player

Paul Wright - see above

Andy Gray - see stein & Wright

David kerslake - gutted when he went , sold way to early

Michael Robinson - just for that milk cup run alone

Jermaine Darlington - around 98/99 he was immense

Steve Palmer - never got the hate for him

Leroy Griffiths - that volley against Chelsea , always gave 100 %

Danny cullip - we needed a leader and a defender

Cranie - thought we had the new glen roeder

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Wasn't Mark Stein basically swapped for David Bardsley, or is that wrong? You'd have to say it was more than a fair exchange if so.

Nice to see a few Paul Murrays in there, would have been some layer for us if super Ray had let him play a bit more.

I decided to go to the 2009 league 2 play off final with some friends (Gills supporters) just for the day out and a few beers plus Simon Royce and Dennis Oli gave it a bit of a QPR connection. I didn't realise that Paul Murray was playing for Shrewsbury until I got there and was pleasantly surprised, a bit older but still a tidy player.

Anyone remember the game were part of our fans were booing one of our players and the ones who thought that was unfair all started applauding every time that player touched the ball. Turned a villain into a bit of a cult hero on the day. Never experienced that before or since.

But who was the player? Was it Palmer? I'm not sure, if not was it Gavin somebody?

I think we've done translated footballer names before but if the sparkling eyed Iberian aesthete Esteban Granero was a bloke called Stephen Barn he'd have been hammered for being a ponce first minute.

That said, the Granero-Faurlin understanding was the only promising thing about the Hughes debacle. Not that they and we didn't get steamrollered every time.

Nice to hear they stayed mates.

Gavin Mahon? More than decent in his position.

Idiakez was quality!! I remember Shabazz Baidoo very fondly. That goal against Leeds in August helped send them down nine months later.

Just corrected my post after looking up the league table that season (2006-07). Top Championship scorer that season was Jamie Cureton (23) at Colchester! Iwelumo at Colchester was 5th highest. The Championship that season had Naaarich, Ipswich, Colchester and Southend - red diesel-tastic!

Were there not a few big injuries in there too? Can't remember any more. Good player though.

Five years Muzza was with us and played more for us than anyone else in his career, blimey.

Simon Osborn must look at him and wonder what might have been.

Thanks Mr Sheen. Yes that was him. Ex Watford, probably why I was mixing him up with Palmer. Both decent honest pros who did a job for our club in difficult times and circumstances.

Tosic had a decent career after we let him go, played Champions League at Besiktas.

Always loved Idiakez at Derby, delighted we signed him at the time.

Mark Stein - so random even I don't know why, I suppose it's that I really thought that he could be the replacement for Bannister we needed, but the managers didn't seem to fancy him somehow. Did OK for everyone he played for after us so I reckon I may have been right at that.

Justin Channing - thought he was the best attacking RB we had at the time, never seemed to get a run.
Trevor Challis and Matt Brazier - always think of these two as a unit, think they'd have been more than decent for us if not thrown into a team in crisis. Very sad about Matt Brazier's untimely death.

Bradley Allen - very underrated little player
Martin Allen - bonkers but always committed
Ian Barraclough - one of very few players I liked in that team
Paul Murray

Justin Channing and I played against each other for our respective schools and also together in centre-mid at every age group for Reading Schools/Berkshire during the mid 80s. He was decent, nevertheless gutted when he got the call from Rangers and I didn't.

Marc Nygaard, totem pole in football boots. One of life's triers, he got spectacular rewards one game in 12.

We didn't let him go, he was on loan from Pompey.

Rob Steiner.

He always played like he got the club and the fans and would do anything to both entertain us and help us win. Such a shame that knee injury ended his career as he could have been a club hero I think.

I remember that game. Really odd treatment of an honest if limited player.

Yeah that was bang ut of order that booing - so good when the fans turned that round. You rarely see that.

I always loved Doudou.
Steve Yates - not a fan favourite, but I always liked him. Incredibly hard worker.
Palmer, in total agreement with paulparker for once.
I thought Oli Burgess woud make a player. I liked him.

Bare bones.

Well done sir. Was at that game had forgotten all about it, but remembered as soon as I read your post. Remember, Jack Robinson looked a class act on the ball that evening.

My contribution to the post:

Gregory Goodridge. He came on a late sub one midweek game and nearly scored the best long dribble run goal ever. Disappointed he didn't do much for us. He did ok for Bristol City, though, and captained his country, Barbados.

I was living way down in the West Country early 90s. One late summer night some football highlights unexpectedly came on the tele - a regional first round tie of the League Cup (or whatever it was called back then - Rumbelows? Littlewoods? Ginsters?) It was a Torquay game against someone like the New Forest. One player stood out, Gregory Goodridge. I remember actually saying to myself, wouldn’t mind him at the Rangers. I was delighted went we bought him - must have been a year later. Sadly never got a run of games.
