| Unbeaten away, struggling at home 12:56 - Oct 10 with 4326 views | Stainrod | Struggling to assess where we are. We are unbeaten away because that defensive nucleus of Dunne, JCS and Ronnie in front of Prince Charles must be as good as any in the league. Really superb, and in turn protected by Madsen and Kamara who is a revelation in being able to get us up the pitch. Smyth is also an unsung hero at just driving us forward and relieving pressure. If we can get draws at the likes of WH and WBA with the occasional 3 points away at teams we get on the break that is more than good enough in terms of away form. But I honestly don’t know where we will pick up enough wins if we can’t beat those “lesser” teams at home when we have more than 50% possession. Will enough goals come at home? We are creating chances but maybe our strikers just not clinical enough? Can Madsen recapture a bit of that sparkle from last season and really boss a game? If Chair comes back and Poku continues to grow, might we be OK? At around the 10 game mark am cautiously optimistic, even excited, but I can’t honestly predict where we finish with even vague accuracy. | | | | |
| Unbeaten away, struggling at home on 16:05 - Oct 12 with 2583 views | Myke | Yeah it’s definitely becoming an issue. Major hype over the dramatic comeback over Preston, but in the cold light of day , two points dropped. Ditto Bolton . Give us those four points and it’s a different perspective on our home form entirely. Yes, you can argue that West Ham is a point clawed back that we didn’t expect and possibly WBA too. But most successful teams have a strong home record so we need to improve that quite urgently - beginning with Derby hopefully | | | |

| Unbeaten away, struggling at home on 20:57 - Oct 12 with 2283 views | Malintabuk | Though a bit of an exaggeration to say Wednesday is a crucial game... it is though a very important one. Only one win in 6 games with 4 draws .... we are really in need of a win Wednesday The injuries certainly are not helping, but even with the injuries our play should be getting us wins rather than draws. I'm really hoping that finally we click against Derby and get the goals our football deserves. Anything short of a win and I think the confidence may just start to falter a little | | | |

One day we’ll find a reincarnation of the goal machine Andy Thompson If we had a striker in hot form this first quarter of the season we’d be top; sadly we lack some finishing guile. Need it on Wednesday

Yes, I'm hoping we can make the stretch for a new striker in January even if it means we have to sell to finance it. Unfortunately injuries are also beginning to make us look short in both senses on the wings.

As QPR crises go, this is surely the best one we've had in years! Totally agree with you David: keep on creating chances and the goals will come. LR is a small ground, easier for teams to park the bus, so yes, we need to figure that out. But let's hope nappy wetting fans don't manifest their angst by getting on the team's back when it's not warranted.

This is a very good point on the tightness of our pitch, we do at the moment seem better away from home on more expansive pitches. Much more space to play in, whereas at QPR you have to move the ball quickly when in attack as the narrowness allows players to get back quickly and squeeze the play more. Although to be honest other than against Cardiff we have not yet got that valuable goal ahead which is so important to us kicking on at home.

The pitch has nothing to do with the results.....it is our own inabilities.

Don’t think fans are wetting too many nappies but fail to beat Derby then on top of Bolton and Preston a pattern starts to emerge. Not beating a team when we have over half the possession for 18 months or whatever it is has to be at least a mild concern, surely? At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, with 3 points for a win, an unheralded 3 scruffy points against Derby at home so much more important than a high profile point at WHU

Look after a decent point away of course you want to win the next game at home - needless to say I hope we do but there's no guarantee we will. And if we don't, we still have 36 games to go; as much as we might have a surprise defeat at home we might have a surprise win away further down the line. Inevitably you are going to get some fans who will sh1t the bed just because QPR doesn't win a football match.

again it’s not shitting any bed; it’s just pointing out that for more than a season now we have had an issue with teams near the foot of the table who sit deep and let us come on to them. I already said in the OP i’m excited about how the season could go and how there is so much to like about this team, but also concerned that this (along with injuries) could see us falling short of the clear potential and abilities this time has at its best. If you don’t see any issue here then fine mate

Nine grounds are narrower, one is the same and four more are just a yard wider. West Ham's is particularly small at 105 x 68 compared with LR's 112 x 72.

Possession shmossession! From the latest round of Prem matches for examples... Newcastle had 67% possession last night. Lost 4-1. Bournemouth had 50% possession v Chelsea. Lost 5-1 Fulham had 52% possesion v Ipswich. Lost 2-1 Sunderland had 62% possession v Brighton. Lost 2-0 Possession's overated and can do one as far as I'm concerned. Chances created is the key stat for me. Plus the goals obviously, which will come. I'd be more concerned if we weren't creating chances, but we are, so... As you were.

Think you've misread the dimensions there Kensal. You've quoted QPR's dimensions in Yards, against West Ham's which is in Metres. QPR Dimensions: 112 yards long x 72 yards wide (102m x 66m) WHU Dimensions: 114.8 yards long x 74.4 yards wide (105m x 68m) So West Hams' is a couple of metres or so bigger in length and girth. Yeah hear what you are saying. We certainly saw in the Warbs era that “looking after the football” (ie passing it slightly nervously back and forth across the back line) didn’t achieve all that much. The issue tho is different one: how do we break down teams who simply don’t want the ball and sit back?

Yeah amazing how often this comes up. Although your West Ham measurements there are in metres not yards. The like for like comparison there 115 x 74 vs 112 x 72. Our pitch is quite tight relative to some others but I'm not convinced enough to make much difference. Anfield is 110 x 75 so very similar to ours but a little squarer. Cardiff's is exactly the same. Charlton is a yard wider and the exact same length. Edit - W7 already pointed this out - apols! [Post edited 13 Oct 16:09]

We have been breaking teams down tho to be fair. It's not like teams are parking the bus and we've been unable to create chances as a result of that or that we just run out of ideas. Barring some brilliant goalkeeping and several near misses, we'd have won those 2 matches v Bolton & Preston. So breaking teams down has not really been the "problem" in my opinion.
