…at Dublin. They’ve found a hearing aid on the floor and are announcing it’s discovery over the PA. Course, the owner can’t hear them!

I was getting an early morning train out of Manchester to Leeds. It was bloody cold and everyone was shivering. The engines fire up and with it, we naturally think the guard will put the heaters in.

By Stalybridge we’re frozen, whereupon the guard comes out with this gem to explain the arctic conditions on board: This is a brand new train that arrived from Germany this week. Unfortunately I don’t know how to turn the heating on as the instruction manual is in German. If we have any German speakers on board, would you please make yourself known to me as I come through the train!’

I know what you’re thinking: How did he know to use the tannoy? And who taught the driver?

My GF has been travelling back and forth to Dublin from T2 for the past few months. She says that both airports have long queues for security but Heathrow T2 deals with them pretty quickly and she is normally through in 40 mins or less. Dublin on the other hand can take more than 2 hours.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

Similarly, I was still in a rural bar on the west coast of Ireland a few years ago at about 1.00 in the morning, which was still going strong. A bemused American couple were being ushered out the back door by the barman. One of them asked him "so, when do you close?". He quickly replied "October".

Many, many moons ago we were all asked to turn off our PC's at work so they could do an update.

"It'll take about 30 minutes, we'll let you know when it's done".

So we waited and waited, and waited then someone contacted the IT guy and he said.......

"eh? I emailed everyone saying they could turn their PC's back on"

A tannoy then went out telling everyone they could do so.

I came through St Pancras on the Eurostar this morning on the way to Germany via Paris and it was fine. No worse than normal and worked out an hour quicker, and £30 cheaper, door to door.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Terminal 5 on Monday - busy but not too bad. Just give yourself plenty of time. Bars and restaurants reasonably busy - about 30 mins to check in/clear security.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Cheers

I think our flight is 9ish and we only have hand luggage so hopefully that will speed it up a bit

Haven't flew from Heathrow since the 5-1 game in 2001 so hopefully a good omen

Yesterday was chaotic in Dublin, but it seems that Ryanair were largely to blame. They (allegedly) sent a message to their passengers to arrive 5 hours before the flight time . There were not nearly enough DAA security staff on at that time and as the other passengers arrived for flights that were going in 2/3 hours time, pandemonium ensued. The cynics suggested it was a deliberate ploy by Ryanair who are pushing for their own terminal.
Extra staff being recruited over the next couple of weeks so hopefully all good by July. Wouldn't fancy flying during the bank holiday weekend though!

I had my mobile phone repaired recently and when I eventually went back to collect it, it had two messages telling me my phone was ready to pick up. I've kept them so I can assure myself I didn't dream it.

Tbf to them, most people put their SIM into a different phone so they generally receive the message.
I say generally but I have done exactly the same
