Such a strange game . At 3-1 I was very worried.
We seemed to go to sleep after our 3rd and the little fracas with Hayden in the corner seemed to get them going . Only we can be 3-1 up and being played off the park 😀. Ok it wasn’t that bad but we looked lethargic for periods of the game .
The 4th killed the game. Totally ruthless up front and that’s a bloody great thing to say because it doesn’t happen very often . Another 2 assists for Vale too.
He’s an intelligent footballer .
As I said on another thread I loved Kolli’s performance today . 2 lovely strikes..why does he always seem to score in pairs ? But he looked stronger and more confident and maybe I’m getting carried away but you can start to see him grow as a player . |  | | |

I watched the full 90 on Pompey TV in the absence of the QPR stream and tbh that pompey side gave their all and just didnt get any rewards. I watched it at work with a Charlton supporter who was obviously very grateful for the result but we both agreed they are unlikely to go down if they play like that for the remainder of the season. The chances they did create just happened to find Walsh on great form (good to see) and I think on another day will walk away with 3 points.
Of course, delighted we scored 6 but it seems even though we created less chances than them, we took ours - Good to see our 2 strikers grab 4 goals between them and Walsh have a great game.

Vale is a very intelligent footballer. Physically, I am unconvinced about his pace, legs, and physicality, but he has great vision and very good passing. IMO, and I have been saying this for a long time, I think he should be Madsen’s back up, and replacement should we sell him. |  | | |

That was very strange. I thought the atmosphere was a bit flat and the performance not great, but we scored 6?! I’ve never seen us so clinical and score 5 good goals. It’s so odd, it doesn’t make sense to say it…we didn’t play well, but scored 5 good goals. Can we play Portsmouth every week? They certainly didn’t deserve anything from the game, but that wasn’t a 6-1 performance. I think that’s up there with the Port Vale and Brentford draw, classic QPR 😂 |  | | |

You're right about Vale's footballing nous. Like Madsen, he sees the game a little bit differently.

I think he'd naturally be a 10 but he played LB for a season so he can clearly defend. If he could bulk up a little I agree that he could fill the Madsen role - this would have the side effect of maybe letting Morgan go on loan | | | |

When a Championship team goes 4 games without a goal, you really want to come up against defences as poor as Leicester and Portsmouth.
Absolutely bizarre scoreline.
As others have said, they outplayed us in parts, especially after we went 3-0 up. I had to listen to Pompey commentators, who kept saying that our defence was gettable. They also said that if they scored a 2nd, we'd panic - on and off the field. Hard to argue with that.
Let's celebrate the win, but recognise our weaknesses. 12 days to work on them before next home game, which should be much tougher.. |  |

I think Vale has a bit of that Milner quality to him where he's not quite the ideal physical profile for any position, but his footballing ability (and work rate) mean he's quite flexible. He's already played RM/RW and 10 here and a bit of CM as well - being in the middle didn't go that well for him, but that felt like a bad day more than anything as he often looks a step ahead in terms of passing/vision and in that game he just couldn't seem to get anything right. | | | |
