Interesting podcast with Marti where they chat for about 5 mins about his time in W12. Dont be put of with the Norweigen & Swedish language at the beginning as all the Marti stuff is in English. Nice to see the 2 Norweigen journos of the podcast are both Rangers.
1/ Because he was asked the question. Not sure he's been asked so directly previously. You can't listen to his answer and tell me it sounds anything less than emphatic. It came quite deep into the pod, too, so it's not a "set the record straight" interview. He could quite easily have said "I'm not contractually allowed to talk about that" - as Nourry did! That was literally the club's line - they could not discuss legally. Maybe that timeframe ran out.
2/ This is all a bit much to hang the guy on. Massive leap of conjecture based on zero real dressing room insight beyond an AI banter video of Madsen drinking a can of Estrella.
I'm just not interested in this culture war version of QPR. Things aren't black and white, it's all grey areas, as in all life.I don't believe there are goodies and baddies, generally, but especially not in football and above all where QPR 's age-old viper-pit politics are concerned.
1) I find it absolutely amazing that someone, who has been accused of talking to other clubs and that was reason for his departure, would not want to address that directly. And would only answer it if he’s asked the question. Come on! I would be absolutely furious if I was him and it wasn’t true. If the time period has passed, get something out there on a qpr podcast. There’s enough of them!
2) for me the pre-season interview and the pre-Leicester one made it clear to me. But of course I’m making an assumption. You and others don’t get that impression, I do.

Well in his pre season interview, he was asked about support network. Never once did he even mention the manager. It took the ceo to set up the meeting with Francis. I find it incredible that the manager would not have been involved in trying to get a new lad to new country and team to help him with his mental health. He also spoke of no higher motivation for “him personally” than Leicester at home. I’m sure it will come out in future what really happened.
This is quite a flimsy basis IMO.

He probably got paid an enormous of amount to leave without disclosure and no doubt, as someone who has been in professional football for a couple of decades unlike his employer, knows that's how professional football works. Clubs speak to agents. Clubs fire managers. The two things are unrelated 99% of the time. But managers have agents that speak to clubs because the club can fire you at will.
So what? Why one earth would you be furious about that if you were Marti Cifuentes, a guy who's gone from club to club fairly regularly? Nobody at any other club would be surprised or scandalised.
But yeah, QPR were always terrified of Clive interviewing Marti when he was at QPR. Maybe now Clive can interview him.

But he’s obviously allowed to say what he did. So why wait to be asked?
My supposition:
When you are looking for other jobs do you really want a public beef with your previous employer, that ultimately doesn't matter because you've had your contract paid up?
For Leicester it would be like dating a woman who talks about her ex all the time, ie not attractive.

The club accused him of talking to other clubs. He’s saying that is a lie. Yes, managers and agents do talk to other clubs. But to be removed for talking to other clubs but for that to be a “lie” is different in my view. He’s obviously not restricted from saying anything now. If I had been removed for something I hadn’t done, I would want to set the record straight. You don’t want a Mick Beale reputation.

Well if legally I couldn’t I wouldn’t. But obviously that isn’t the case or at least isn’t the case now. So then it depends on how bothered you are about what happened…..if the reasons you left are wrong. I’m not sure it’s a good look for Marti to be looking at other jobs while relatively new here. That was said by likes of Simon Jordan. So, yes I am surprised that Marti has waited to be asked to set the record straight. If I were him, I’d be calling Clive now or W12 podcast for an interview.

'So then it depends on how bothered you are about what happened'
I guess this is the nub.
We (the fans) think it's important because the truth will colour how we view our current CEO and internal goings on.
To Marti, paid off and on his way to Leicester, not as much.

I completely agree on honesty of club. I was talking about how I would feel in Marti’s situation. I would want truth out in black and white. As said, I don’t think the way he left “officially” has reflected well on him and for his career. He could deal with this by putting it out.
My personal view, he is saying he didn’t talk to other clubs. But that doesn’t rule out him asking his representatives to speak on his behalf.

Agreed.
Besides which, we're talking about whether Cifuentes spoke to clubs or not, when many of us had heard many months beforehand that he would be replaced, simply because the club had chosen to make a change.
As ever, the truth will come out in time.

Cifuentes was sacked at Leicester when they had 29 points , yet they only won 1 game afterwards. Had he not been sacked they would almost certainly have won more games and still be a Championship club.
Well they were 15th when he left the recent monied ex Premier League club.
Just because the next manager was worse is no argument he did a good job at Leicester.
And also, to then also say, he would have saved them from relegation, well to just avoid getting relegated from managing a recent Prem club in the championship, again for me is no indicator, he would have done a good job there.
That's not to say he isn't a decent manager. He was excellent for ourselves initially.
Anyhow, think you can understand point, I am making.

I'm more intrigued about how and why Furlong left the club. I don't see what Paul did wrong, off the back of some of the most success we've seen from the development squad, with regards to winning something and getting DS into the first team.
I don't even see a link between Furs leaving to go to another job? -- Felt like he was just pushed out to allow other Performance members to get a larger remit?

Williams sacked him on a whim and Nourry backed his mate. The end.

Don't be silly. You can't sack someone on a whim.
What was the endgame?
Alex Carroll is the academy director, so in theory is the boss of the DS coaches.
This has been the case for a while now
I'm not sure that Williams is his boss is he?
Have to wait for Fur's NDA to expire to hear what really happened. Such a shame as Paul speaks so well in this video. I'd imagine that PF held a lot of respect with all the other staff and players, due to all the experience he had. Maybe this undermined the newer methodology teams who were trying to create change?
Maybe Furs spoke up about managing the younger players in the canteen and this did for him?
Very poor though, this was a bigger loss than Marti leaving after a couple of years (which is longer than the average Championship manager/coach lasts anyway).

A few observations, Leicester were a basket case even when they got promoted to the Premier on the most recent occasion and the manager jumped ship. They bought poorly and had massive financial problems which will continue for some time yet. If you read the analysis it is mind boggling. The leaders left and there was no money to recruit . They have a fantastic training ground and some good youngsters. MC actually did an amazing job I the circumstances but they were a bad fit. As regards his loyalty to QPR, let's be real, it is a ruthless business so everyone is always looking for a plan B unless you are at a top club and winning things. It is quite possible he wanted to stay and that his agent was looking at options. The two are not mutually exclusive. If you are looking for clues, the best indicators are behaviour of the parties, how have individuals who were recruited under the old regime fared under the new? How honest have the current regime been in communication with supporters generally? Look at the timelines, where suddenly 'leaks' emerged by both parties, who had most to gain in having their narrative take hold? Whenever an organisation has a change of senior leadership there is almost always a culling of the level below, people with organisational knowledge and internal networks can be of huge benefit but also perceived as a threat. Lastly, personally I didn't think MC was the next Alex Ferguson but I think he was a decent coach who was learning from experience and had a decent assistant. On that basis, any change needed to make significant improvement. Thus far it hasn't happened. I have high hopes for next year if the obvious areas of weakness are addressed, but hopes and reality are not the same!

I think Stephan hasn't quite bedded in in the way Marti did.
It's a part of lire charisma and a way of likeability can often unfairly be used to compare people especially if in a form of Av B scenario.
I hope Julien goes well but it's true Marti has a likeable way about him as stated he's got a way which is QPR for many of us.
Doesn't mean Stephan doesn't or cannot succede depending on what it us.
That early loss to Coventry I think has delayed the way a but even if fans don't realise it.
I think Stephan is more of a yes man than Cifuentes.
For instance I don't think the latter would have selected the DS team to play at Plymouth, nor do I think he would have risked Poku or Burrell to play in dead rubber matches at the end of the season just because he had to make Williams' player availability stats look better.

I heard there was a falling out and he was tapped on the shoulder in the canteen taken out and sacked on the spot. Nourry had a decision to make and backed his mate. It happened about two weeks before it was announced because it had to be a compromise agreement because of how it had been initiated, but that also meant the club’s bargaining position was weak hence it taking a while to finalise his package.
Watford now have Micah Hyde and Paul Furlong there. They used to be our 1&2 a few years back. Watford Dev squad beat ours 5-0 this season too, IIRC.

Actually they were 14th and 6 points from the play offs.
I didn't say he was doing a good job, and given the players at his disposal maybe they should have been more consistent and higher up the table, but I don't think he was a poor manager there.
How many QPR fans think Stephan did a good job last season because the team was 3-6 points off the play offs for much of the season? His performance was not much different to Cifuentes at Leicester, just that their expectations were higher than QPR's.

Agree. I guess it was another poor decision by the club and Nourry/Williams.

How many batterings did we take under marti compred to Stephan ?
Second worst goals concede under Stephan with way better players Aval most of the time even allowing for the horrible impact injuries to our fav players .
And last for a huge chunk of the season the football has been awful to watch with the odd 20 mins of half decent football to win us some games
And somwvosymw ruined the Plymouth game , the game furlong was sat on the bench for that Plymouth game , so of course he didn’t pick that side that night
Been reading this thread from afar as another Marti thread seems slightly tiresome although the OP and link was interesting enough .
Everyone is now entrenched in their own view and side (apart from one person) that nothing said here now will change anybody’s mind.
Good luck to Marti. Stitched up good and proper and not my words , the words of a very very senior club official . Good luck to Julien in the coming season . Fully behind him of course, which also doesn’t mean I can’t question his decision making or tactics of whatever . That’s every fans right .
And just to clarify , that’s exactly what the club/ CEO/ etc via people like Mr Winton want you to do regarding THER choices and decisions . Just bear it in mind. Oh and Furlong was sacked halfway through his breakfast by the way. That’s not conjecture.
As I’ve always said , believe what you want to believe . But keep the mind open to what certain folk are capable of .
Other than that, let’s hope we do progress next season . We all deserve it no matter what you believe or think .

Bloody hell Mart supporting a football club should not be so complicated and such hard work!
You can only base an opinion on what you know today and when further information comes to light your opinion can change. It is important to keep an open mind on many, many things.
Annoyingly though it seems my opinions are also formed on things that I don't know! For instance I don't fully understand this that you say
''And just to clarify , that’s exactly what the club/ CEO/ etc via people like Mr Winton want you to do regarding THER choices and decisions.''
No matter but it does seem pointless posting opinions when you are, unknowingly, not aware of all the facts and aren't ITK. May as well post about the baggage retrieval system at Heathrow.

This is the football world. None of it really makes sense in the real world. Nourry played a game and Cifuentes is playing the game. Neither of them, really give a shit about QPR, only their careers. Cifuentes loves our fans and the adulation but his bosses were complete arseholes. Got his contract paid up. End of. He's not gonna take QPR to task over some sort of libel.
