Interesting podcast with Marti where they chat for about 5 mins about his time in W12.
Dont be put of with the Norweigen & Swedish language at the beginning as all the Marti stuff is in English. Nice to see the 2 Norweigen journos of the podcast are both Rangers.

But times are different now and everything is played out in public. Far from ideal but perhaps the club would have been better saying nothing when they dismissed Marti or said something like we feel Julien is better suited to implementing our vision for the club.

I find it hard to disagree with some of the things that people say on this thread, Clive, Brian, SuperHoops, PunteR etc but I don't like these threads when they meander on getting nowhere. And yes I know I contribute to that, I am not the most eloquent or the best at getting my points across. I will quit whilst I am behind!

TBF mate it's the summer, if we look down the message board 'hot topics' today it's...

Raheem Sterling bad boy
Whatever happened to the dotorg site?
New championship kits
Films of the year
Transfer rumours
Dexter Wansell RIP

This, in my opinion, is important, and is relevant. If others feel the same then meander away.

I find the Cifuentes v Stephan debate strange.

I do believe a great many fsns appreciate Marti way more than Stephan and Marti is looked back on fondly by fans as opposed to many saying about Stephan they can take him or leave him. They are not fussed.

Yet Marti leaving was seen by many as a true tragedy.

For me, Madsen massively improved under Stephan. He was awful under Cifuentes, whether thats his first year or not, its a strong possibility he has been coached better under Stephan than Cifuentes. Smyth also was very average under Cifuentes. This season he has been great to watch and impacting way more.

Stephan changed the game model to accomodate two up top very soon into his reign and it worked. Kone, Burrell, Vale, Morgan, Mbengue all improved under Stephan also and i do remember Ilias Chair speaking very highly of Stephan's innovative training methods - the best coach he has ever worked under, he said.

And yet Cifuentes name was sung heartily by many fans and Stephan has had nothing of the sort. Its all rather strange.

I was very disapoointed when Marti left but i am not completely now buying the fact he wasnt trying to move elsewhere when at QPR. There are no such rumours with Julien. And as others have noted Cifuentes has engineered moves in the past before.

And whatever anyone thinks of the Leicester players he had at his disposal there, their form under him was dreadful and lets not forget many of them were still seasoned premier league players and yes he was sacked but the decline continued and for all of that they ended up being relegated, which is dreadful for all involved and concerned. But again Cifunetes was let off lightly by many ie they disillusioned ex prem stars.

Cifuentes had no ability.to create, motivate and organise these.players. Thats actually his job to do Marti in hindsight, could be classed as more of a chancer with a better spiel to spin. But the real job a coach does is on the training ground not in an interview or as a guest on a podcast.

We will really know their relative abilities to coach a team of men when Cifuentes is given another chance.

i was very impressed with Cifuentes when he came in. But he was coming in after arguably one of our worst ever managers in the last 30 years and think he benefitted from that in a backhanded way.

People prefer listening to Marti on a podcast or post match interviews. Doesnt make him a better coach than Stephan. If people think in their own careers when interviewing new prospective workers some can give brilliant interviews and then be totally downright average as a worker.

Think he may well do a few pods right now to highlight his profile ie he is on the lookout for a new challenge and he is clever at making things sound as if he is the one in the right etc when possibly i tentatively suggest he is better at self promotion.

Cant help but feel the guy is massively overrated because he comes across well

Again on here also my opinion here is not going to be appreciated but i can only say what i have seen myself.

His performance at Leicester was shocking but again he will get a pass from many on that one and so many on here would have Cifunetes back in a shot over Stephan which again I have no understanding of that.

He is more likeable to our fanbase. Thats how it seems to me.....

Cifuentes was sacked at Leicester when they had 29 points , yet they only won 1 game afterwards. Had he not been sacked they would almost certainly have won more games and still be a Championship club.

Dont worry, I too wasnt going to comment... But felt I had to. And for the record you do make a good argument just not one I necessarily agree fully with. Difference is, we have discussed it in a fair way.

It is difficult online to get your points across crystal clear.

Over a few pints in the pub everything would be sorted. Clive still owes me a pint.

Quite a few saying "we'll never the truth" or "the truth is probably in between"...

That would be accurate if it was just the choice between two stories, those of QPR and Cifuentes. But presumably, West Brom also know the truth.

Cifuentes sounds so comfortable saying he had no contact with West Brom, I imagine, because he knows that West Brom could corroborate that story. And it's important for him to emphasis that he didn't speak to another club directly without permission because it's his reputation that suffers.

Agents speak to clubs all the time, so if WBA made an enquiry to Cifuentes' agent, that's neither here nor there. QPR speak to the agents of contracted employees every day.

Obviously, WBA don't want a rep for tapping up managers (like QPR tapped up Ray Harford when WBA manager) but the fact they could've subsequently appointed Cifuentes when he was an entirely free agent and instead made two pretty wacky appointments instead suggests they were never seriously interested in him.

So, if QPR felt it was OK to blacken a popular manager's reputation in order to fire him for some other more obscure reason, that is worth discussing. What sort of people do that? And what else do they lie about?

I must’ve missed it when West Brom announced they’d had no contact from Cifuentes’ agent.

Maybe this is a daft question, but if MC or his representatives never spoke to WBA or any other club directly or indirectly, why has he not sued them for constructed dismissal?

Football contracts don't work the same way regular employment contracts do - as they are fixed term they give the option for break clauses and agreed payouts if the contract is terminated which negates the need for anyone to take an employer to court for constructive dismissal etc.

Because like any football manager fired while still under contract, he would have had his contract paid in full, including that season's bonus for staying up etc. Same with all managers, there may have been a 12 month non-disclosure term set too, which may have also been tied to a payment.

Just as QPR originally under LF spoke to Cifuentes's agent when he was either at AaB or Hammarby between 2021 and 23, to see if he was interested but he couldn't be lured yet, WBA may well have spoken to his agent, just to check availability/interest/wage.

If this didn't happen between agents and clubs inititally, there would never be any transfers. That's what Cifuentes means by "someone new to professional football." (Though headhunters in all industries speak to contracted employees to gauge interest in roles all the time, so maybe he meant "someone new to full time employment".)

And so, to Ned above, whether his representatives to spoke to WBA is immaterial. They immediately told local radio he wasn't on a shortlist for the job.

I'm sure Nourry learnt from the episode. It's how you gain experience, going through stuff like this. He's no longer new to working at a professional football club. I bet anything Stephan's agent has fielded calls from other clubs, for example.

You have to be employed for 2 years before you become eligible for constructive dismissal:

https://www.acas.org.uk/dismis

Most Championship managers don't last that long.

There are some exceptions to the 2 year eligibility rule but I'm assuming Marti wasn't pregnant or asserting his right to a National Minimum Wage.

Completely wrong.

Football contracts might be constructed differently from most other professions but they are still governed by the same employment law as every other employment contract in the country.

If someone has been fired they don't need to claim constructive dismissal.

https://www.acas.org.uk/dismis

"What constructive dismissal is

An employee can make a constructive dismissal claim if they resign because they think their employer has seriously breached their employment contract.

Examples could include:

- regularly not being paid the agreed amount without a good reason

- being bullied or discriminated against

- raising a grievance that the employer refuses to look into

- making unreasonable changes to working patterns or place of work without agreement

It could be because of one serious incident or a series of things.

I think Stephan hasn't quite bedded in in the way Marti did.

It's a part of lire charisma and a way of likeability can often unfairly be used to compare people especially if in a form of Av B scenario.

I hope Julien goes well but it's true Marti has a likeable way about him as stated he's got a way which is QPR for many of us.

Doesn't mean Stephan doesn't or cannot succede depending on what it us.

That early loss to Coventry I think has delayed the way a but even if fans don't realise it.

The bed was still very wet most weeks, in fairness to Jules…

I think the thing for me isn't whether Marti's any good or not, or whether he's better than Stephan or not, that's been done to death and Hunter has it right higher up.

I think Baz is closer to the nub of the issue here. If Cifuentes is right in what he says (and I am not saying he is, but he's gone on record now saying it) and somebody at our club completely made that story up, then every QPR fan should be concerned about that right now.

Yes agree. But that would be the entire club hierarchy, not just Nourry. Would be Hoos and the owners. It’s a big decision to fire him. It’s possible that the board were lied to but I’d like to think they would ask for some proper proof that this was going on. But I have to admit, I don’t really believe Marti here. I used to love the guy but I just don’t really trust him or like him for that matter now. The treatment of Madsen by him sums him up as a person for me.

Agree with first bit. Part of Nourry's job - a big part - is to be the public-facing bad guy as I imagine Hoos and Gnanalingam have had more than enough of that.

Second part: boards fire managers all the time for vibes-reasons! Arne Slot was so certain of his position that three weeks ago he was allowed to hire a new coach, who left his job in Holland to join Liverpool on Liverpool's OK, and then seven days later they fired him. Clubs do not need to construct alibis for firing unless the manager is more popular than the club.

"I don't really trust him or like him": that's harsh. Second part is your prerogative, of course, but as for not trusting him...why? What lies has he been caught in by you? Can't think of any myself. QPR, however, lie fairly routinely as far I can see.

And Madsen: what evidence of maltreatment? The guy took six months or so to adapt to a new league. Very typical. How did MC mistreat him by not picking him on the back of poor performances? He was picking him by the end and his performances had improved hugely. No coach is universally loved by his squad, not even Warnock.

Ok, so 2 points.

If Marti is telling the truth. Why say now and on some random podcast? If you were him and you were allowed to say what happened (clearly he is, otherwise he wouldn’t say it now), wouldn’t you have said that and set the record straight earlier? I would be desperate to clear my name to qpr fans in an interview or write something to set it out.

On Madsen, he talked in the pre-season interview about his mental struggles and it was ceo and guy in club shop that he had to talk to. Where was the manager during his mental struggles? Madsen’s pre Leicester home match also showed us what he thought about Marti.

I don't get this Madsen / Marti thing.

Madsen's form kicked off at the end of last season under Marti. Didn't he get 5 assists / goals in two games or something?

Has there been some mistreatment I've missed?

I'm guessing Madsen playing every week when he was struggling was some mandate from the CEO/DOF
When all the fans were crying out for Madsen to replaced.

Maybe Marti made this clear, which created some rift?

1/ Because he was asked the question. Not sure he's been asked so directly previously. You can't listen to his answer and tell me it sounds anything less than emphatic. It came quite deep into the pod, too, so it's not a "set the record straight" interview. He could quite easily have said "I'm not contractually allowed to talk about that" - as Nourry did! That was literally the club's line - they could not discuss legally. Maybe that timeframe ran out.

2/ This is all a bit much to hang the guy on. Massive leap of conjecture based on zero real dressing room insight beyond an AI banter video of Madsen drinking a can of Estrella.

I'm just not interested in this culture war version of QPR. Things aren't black and white, it's all grey areas, as in all life.I don't believe there are goodies and baddies, generally, but especially not in football and above all where QPR 's age-old viper-pit politics are concerned.

Well in his pre season interview, he was asked about support network. Never once did he even mention the manager. It took the ceo to set up the meeting with Francis. I find it incredible that the manager would not have been involved in trying to get a new lad to new country and team to help him with his mental health. He also spoke of no higher motivation for “him personally” than Leicester at home. I’m sure it will come out in future what really happened.
