Clarke trying to drive a wedge between manager and team in his immediate post-match interview.
Wright, Neville and Co. laughing like little kids pre-match because the camera panned on to Haaland's dad, Keane was in the room and it's all so funny, because, you know. Keane snapped his leg...
Fck off.

Edited to get name of interviewer right

the media as a WHOLE DO NOT BACK ENGLAND in any sport, itv sport is terrible put politely lee dixon ffs??
roy keane who called his manager an effing english cu** why is always doing our games? getting paid millions as well?
that clarke was a tool with Tuchel and sums up how bad our media, they want drama and stories and when none, create one.
most in the teams on itv and beeb have played, copped stick and abuse so why dish out? support the current team. few have coaching badges or managed at top level for long. support us for once, maybe two games .

Is that a joke?

As more of a well wisher than a fan, England games on ITV both in football and rugby always turn into absolute reach arounds on comms lad

It's a big ITV thing, they do the same in the rugby, endlessly trying to tell you every game is a classic.

It's fine, sometimes games are bad

See, this is another reason why Test Match Special commentators are so admired.

During a tedious bit of cricket they have at least three options:

1. "This is an absorbing battle, one for the connoisseur"
2. "The next session is key"
3. Talk about literally anything else for ten minutes ("The thing with cricket commentary is that if you really get stuck you can always talk about the actual match" - Henry Blofeld.)

I wish they would as well but ITV selling fizzy drinks , high fat foods and gambling sites during the half time breaks are paying Matterface and Dixon’s wages.
They’re probably under orders to say it’s not rubbish

And yet the tv channels and media are also slated for being too supportive of the home Nations and biased towards them when they do features on England during other teams game. Can't win really.

From a tv point of view the better England do the more people watch and the higher the ad money coming in so the general feeling is most people in the tv industry want and need them to do well. At ITV the ad revenue this year won't be matched again until the Euros in 2 years time, it's pretty much the only thing people watch live these days in big numbers.

Far from it, Big Dunc kept saying how shit the Switzerland v Colombia game was the other night. Roy Keane is also not shy of saying when a game is a stinker. The ad money keeps it free it watch. We'll soon be back to the league season where everything is behind a paywall with even more ads than you are seeing this summer.

Cheers mate, sounds like we have at least another year before we need to worry about it all as has to all go through CMA and ofcom first and even when it does will take a while to move everything over. Should be good news for viewers with more free to air sport likely.

Personally I've really enjoyed the ITV coverage (apart from Matterface obviously) and the fact they are actually there helps. The BBC broadcasting from a bunker to save money while they pay Scott Mills three-quarters of a million pounds a year is rather hilarious.

Yesterday's comms partly saved by having McCoist along too, who at least sounds like he's happy to be there. Unlike Dixon.

Matterface is just the worst though. New low last night when he pronounced Johannesburg as Yohannesburg. Just fck right off.

I understand us changing Kiev recently, to differentiate Ukraine from Russia, but I'm not sure about Tur-key or Tur-key-eh or Ivory Coast to Cote d'ivoire.

Although, we are all happy with Costa Rica, never heard anyone call that place Rich Coast!

I did wonder with the post match interviews whether the snide question to Bellingham about what Tuchel said was a reaction to Tuchels handling of his interview.

I think he was right as well, the mentality was there to drag a win out when we weren't necessarily playing well but the interviewer perhaps wanted to paint it that the players had a poor attitude. With friends like that...

Appreciate sticking up for journalists is never going to win anyone a popularity contest but Gabriel Clarke is not the FA's comms guy, he is meant to ask pertinent questions to create talking points. It would have been a bit of an omission not to put Tuckell's comment to Jude.

I guess he could have qualified his question by pointing out that the manager also praised the team's fighting spirit. And I guess its also another question whether players should have to submit to interviews in a state of exhaustion straight after a match.

But I have read countless comments from QPR message boards over the years that our post-match interviews - which are done in-house as a PR exercise - are too soft and never ask the real questions (after we have been thumped 4-0 it can sometimes sound a bit "so a useful work-out for the lads, what are the positives you take from that?"). So a bit damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I appreciate he's got a job to do and he has the right to ask those questions but at the time of the interview Bellingham doesn't know what the criticism is because the manager has not talked to the team yet about the performance and what he wants them to do better. So without that knowledge, how does he expect him to respond? That's why it comes across poorly in my opinion as it's probably something better to address to the players once they've reviewed the game, not on the pitch straight after.

I notice there's ongoing reports about a split in the dressing room which started from after that game but it's mad (and unacceptable) that people are upset to the point that they've issued death threats.

People have every right to be angry. The journalist doesn't deserve death threats but he deserves absolute pelters in front of the nation, just as Tuchel, Bellingham and most footballers do on a weekly basis.
It was a snide manoeuvre whichever way you paint it and was framed to cause a negative reaction. I'm assuming Gabriel Clarke is English, so why he thought throwing that curve ball to Bellingham was a good idea is anyone's guess. Stupid idiot

I don't get what people are angry about to be honest.
It was poorly phrased and he could have added that Tuchel also praised the effort but it's a quick interview on the pitch at the end of the game. A real nothing incident that people have decided should have a lot of focus on rather than just being laughed off.
Bellingham had the same question put to him by Sky & BBC after the game as did all the other players. I very much doubt it's caused any rifts or issues within the camp, they are really not that sensitive. Gabriel Clarke did interviews with Kane and Tuchel yesterday, if there was any issue they'd have refused to do it.

If we lose tonight or on Sunday I very much doubt it will be because Gabriel Clarke mentioned to a player that his manager didn't think they played well on Saturday.

Obviously but at least they are putting the money on the screen too - it's just much nicer to see them out there rather than in Manchester. It's odd because I seem to remember Matt Lorenzo et al broadcasting from a bunker back in 1994 while Des topped up his sun tan.

I think the Beeb are in a no win there.
Even if they flew a handful of crew and presenters out to region there could be outcry as its essentially our money paying for flights, accommodation etc

Should be major cost savings coming soon as Terrestrial broadcast will move away from using aerials to deliver a signal and large broadcasters don't have to pay for distribution of those video signals, might take a few years though, the change to colour was massive and the analogue to digital was a seven year project in itself...

When everyone is watching an OTT stream it becomes a lot easier for the viewer to choose an alternative commentary for example, or dynamically switch to ref cam or a player ISO etc.

When it's a bunch of pundits sat around in a studio discussing the game, I really don't see how them being in the same country, but maybe 2-3,000 odd miles from a game, adds much more than having them sat in a studio in their home country.

Sections of the media, politicians, and the general population are forever banging on about the profligacy of the BBC, so they probably went down the cheapest route to avoid taking another kicking. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

I think it helps to feel a part of it if you are out there but to be honest it hasn't really made me not enjoy the BBC's coverage and completely get why they did it, the cost of studio space and that length of time is ridiculous especially when you are under as much scrutiny as the BBC and lets face it a lot of people have stopped paying their licence so funds are down.

They are at the game tonight and the final which was always the plan

Not sure about Ivory Coast but the Turkiye one is a global change made by the country itself, so it is being called on a global level what the country wants to be called.

FIFA give a video to all broadcasters of how to pronounce every players name and every country which is why a fair few of them sound different to normal

The first punditry that I can remember was ITV for the 1970 World Cup. It was superb viewing & mind blowing at the time, although the solitary Scotsman wasn't on a par with the rest.

I'm fairly sure it was broadcast from the studio of LWT with Brian Moore in the chair. Jimmy Hill, Malcolm Allison, Derek Dougan, Bob McNab & Pat Crerand discussing the games as if they were having a pint in the pub.

The first & by far the best panel I've listened to.

Well there's something wrong with journalism if trying to stir up a story out of nothing is your game.
But its funny now though as Tuchel is basically up shit creek. I wonder how the players are feeling about him now? This little episode probably hasn't helped Bellingham's opinion of him.
