I think the Beeb are in a no win there.
Even if they flew a handful of crew and presenters out to region there could be outcry as its essentially our money paying for flights, accommodation etc
Should be major cost savings coming soon as Terrestrial broadcast will move away from using aerials to deliver a signal and large broadcasters don't have to pay for distribution of those video signals, might take a few years though, the change to colour was massive and the analogue to digital was a seven year project in itself...
When everyone is watching an OTT stream it becomes a lot easier for the viewer to choose an alternative commentary for example, or dynamically switch to ref cam or a player ISO etc. [Post edited 15 Jul 16:20]

Digital has many faults that Analogue didn't. TVs take much longer to switch on and change channels.
Sound levels are more difficult to control on digital devices. You used to be able to turn a knob (behave) and get exactly the sound level you wanted. Now it can be a little too quiet or a little too loud, difficult to find the ideal level. | | | |

I watched it on ITV as I prefer McCoist to the others & Neville in the studio. The drawback with this was having Dixon on.

I like McCoist but he can't make up for the awfulness of Matterface and Dixon.
Mowbray and Shearer did a good job I think.
As for the pundits I couldn't really care less, I just tune in for the actual football. |  |

I could write a few hundred words on audio for you! ;p
There are probably a couple of things going on that cause this.
The main culprit is some guidance, known as EBU R128, which is to do with following a consistent loudness of the Television signal.
Stemming from complaints that adverts were significantly louder than the programmes this was introduced.
The guidance is that content shouldn't exceed -23 LUFS over the whole programme.
A cheap and lazy way to adhere to this is to run your content through a filter, this invariably makes the loud parts quieter and the quiet parts louder, as everything is squashed into a smaller dynamic range.
Like everything its a compromise, as that narrow dynamic range helps compression and allows us to put more services on the same transponder for example.
Another issue maybe that the content was made for surround sound and the end user only has stereo, so is losing some of the nuance.
Most of the startup of "smart" tvs seem to be loading that massive programme guide.
In order to remain cheap they actually have less power than the average Raspberry Pi (a cheap computer). I actually remember some old CRT (tube TVs) taking a while to turn on and even turn off, while the cap tries to discharge. |  | | |

It wasn't the 'mentality' that narked people off, it was the fact he told Bellingham that Tuchel wasn't happy with the performance to which Bellingham replied 'whatever' in an indignant manner... job done!

I always go to BBC given the choice because I’m not a fan of Lee Dixon and I thought their panel was much better.
And I never thought Gabriel Clarke was the devil (hyperbole) but I still think it was a pisspoor interview. That doesn’t mean I want him to die just to be clear.
People always want things for free. And they still complain about it. I don’t think a lot of thought goes into it. |  | | |
