Dominated the game in Midfield with lots of pretty passes without going anywhere as we didn’t seem to be able to make that killer pass and I not sure if that was due to lack of movement.
Kamara was different class and seemed to work well with Madsen.
Lots of positives as we look to have a bit of strength in depth, pretty much controlled the game, but a few negatives as the injuries are starting to mount up.
Adamson did ok, but does not bomb on and cuts back which Mebengue did not do as he went forward and put 3 good balls in.
Maybe being a bit harsh Obikwu looked a little lost.
But in general 1st signs are we are better than last year.

We were worried about goalie, full back and centre midfield. Charles is huge upgrade, completely changes how we play. Full back, we now have 5 (?) that seem pretty decent. Madsen and Kamara looks an excellent partnership in the middle. But the problem is the end product from the wide players and I’m now worried about the strikers! Only at qpr 🤦♂️ | | | |

We have been very close to winning every game we’ve played this season, which compared to 6 months ago is a massive improvement.
We are a striker light, as there is zero movement up front, hence the extra pass in midfield and generally weak finishing from the wide forwards.

Watched on TV we dominated without creating much at all. Playing against a low block is a major problem for us we are too often trying to walk it in. Task number one on Kevin Betsy list has got to be encouraging Madsen to take on a shot, the guy is an amazing finisher but in games like this we need to see one of the midfielders take it on and I would rather that is Madsen than the otherwise excellent Kamara. I also felt we were a bit safe in the final 3rd little or no attempts at one twos and that is where we miss Chair.
As good as Lloyd was against Cardiff he was poor and ineffective tonight. Burrell seems to struggle against the low block.
Smyth had a very poor game on the left, and never thought for a moment he was going to score that one on one, he is another one that just does not have technique or game smarts against a low block.
2nd half when Charlton went 5 at the back we moved Vale in field to try and combat it but that meant we had Lloyd out wide which was a total waste of space so two ineffective wingers.
Surprised to see Obikwu come on the left and looked totally lost there.
Adamson did well defensively against Campbell but was poor going forward and was lucky he missed when trying to haul Campbell back whilst on 2nd yellow before being hooked.
Injuries are a big worry. The one we did not want was Jimmy, I'm not sure we can rely on JCS staying fit and I dont have much confidence in Morrison. Sad to see Lamptey go down I hope it's not serious but then not surprising coming back from ACL.
I nice cross from Scarlett but looks a long way off being ready for this level
Finally I really hope we can sort out the Kolli situation, I think he is exactly the striker we need for a low block situation where chances are going to be few and far between I really hope both sides can get their acts together and get whatever it is resolved and move on. Cos the longer we hear nothing or if it is the case he is training with the under 18s the longer there are going to be calls for him especially when we have failed to score in half our games yet are creating the most chances in the division |  | | |

I think they have to tell us if Kolli is actually fit again and if he is, why he isn't being chosen when we know he can score, even if he is for some reason the problem child. Adel was a problem child and he did pretty well because Warnock just let him play despite being difficult. |  |

If you're playing against low block you need movement, we're too rigid. Watch how city use to combat this. They faced lowblocks for seasons and use to score the same goals week in and week out. Get a player to the touchline on the edge of the box and cut back.. | | | |

I thought we played well given Charlton’s poor attitude. They were very effective with their low block, but for a team at home who could have gone top if they won, they let their fans down. No interest in winning and some time-wasting.
I got excited by a 4 4 2 team , but then frustrated that we played Lloyd wide on the right and Burrellon his own. Lloyd should have been used to help Burrell and two fast attackers in the centre would have been more of a challenge. Lloyd is not a winger.
Ronnie had an excellent game. The guy behind me calling him a c**t for his last minute shot clearly had no sense of proportion or gratitude. Lamptey, Kamara and Cirkin all impressed me. Mbengue should have been used earlier as he created 3 good chances once he was on. Against opposition playing so deep , his defensive frailty wouldn’t have mattered as much.
Jimmy shouldn’t have started the second half after limping off at HT. Hopefully it is a minor niggle.
We played some nice football. We struggled to provide a threat in the box. We are 4th with 11 points. If we beat PNE we will have 14 from the first 8 games. Good enough for me. | | | |

1. Adamson, I saw him charging forward with the ball a number of times and Vale stood in front of him blocking his way to the touchline.. If Vale takes the full back inside he would either lose him and be free for the pass or allow Adamson to hit the touchline and cross/pull back.. said it a number of times first half.
2. Could we have not tried swapping Vale and Smyth for a period, as playing inverted wingers means they are always cutting in and not getting to the line for cut backs etc.. Lamptey got behind a few times and looked dangerous.. I think playing Burrel we want crosses from the touch and cut backs, not cutting back and crossing from deep, which Charlton dealt with easily against Buzz. |  | | |

What's that stat about not winning with more possession since Blackburn away?
I thought we played okay but obviously lacked penetration. Adamson played well but we only looked dangerous on the right once Mbengue came on. Kamara and Madsen were both very good. I felt for Madsen when he kept gesturing to players to move into position...but they didn't.
Kolli obviously buries the Smyth chance and everyone's happy. Will someone go rogue at the fans forum and ask why he is being frozen out? | | | |

I think the game ultimately came down to not having enough creativity out wide, no intelligent movement on our last line and the lack of an individual that just wanted to go and win the game for us.
There is already a lack of player availability which made the starting XI look like a pre season experiment. I have some sympathy for Stephan as he's already being failed by the Performance/Medical Staff, and lost 2 sub windows because of the injuries, but he did choose to start Alfie Lloyd and even worse play him out wide in the 2nd half which made him completely void as an attacking option. Mbengue turned out to be the best attacking Sub of the triple change from RB which says alot. I noticed Emmerson Sutton was the 21st man in the Squad, why not have him on the bench instead of Morrison to come on and try and make a name for himself instead of shoehorning Obikwu in to a position he's never played before? Scarlett got himself involved in the game so credit to him.
The topic is being done to death but Kolli not being selected is becoming a bit of a farce now, especially with the lack of attackers on the bench. I think we deserve to know if Stephan just doesn't fancy him or if the ruling is coming from above him for non footballing reasons. He's the type of player that does want to be the match winner and could make something out of nothing against a low block. It's just becoming sad now. |  | | |

That was so frustrating. A joy to watch most of the Rs' football (these days, we are undeniably an attacking team, from the goalkeeper onwards) and we out-classed Charlton. Trouble is, the imagination and guile that gets us into the final third, goes missing when the final pass or shot is required. Not sure how coaching should deal with this, but there must be stats to learn from and videos of the way other teams deal with the problem. I hadn't realised for quite a while that neither Poku nor Koki were on the bench.
So from players not long term injured that was Kone, Chair, Poku and Koki unavailable - one or two of those would have been options to try to get something happening in that situation.

Charlton were a horrible watch - prime Pulis with the two main tactics being big b****s on set pieces and a fast guy on the counter. Almost worked mind you. Bit surprised as I don't remember a Nathan Jones team setting up quite like that before.
Agree with all the comments that we need to work on movement in the box. At the moment we have a contradiction in our play which showed properly yesterday but is only likely to become more apparent if we don't fix it. We only win with low possession and quick press to catch the oppo out. At the same time, with Charles as our creative sweeper keeper, we're likely to have more possession and game control.
Good start to the season tho and Stephan's post match comments on needing time on the training ground I find encouraging with the international break coming up. | | | |

Think this should be called Millwall Reflections. Just like that game there were endless balls being flung into the box in hope rather than purpose.
Teams, especially those that are pretty poor going forward, will increasingly stick 11 behind the ball and ask us to break them down.
We missed Chair for his craft and Kone to hold the ball up and allow runners to break behind him. While Madsen and Kamara looked good, neither can physically break the line to support the isolated strikers.

Another 2 points dropped. A game screaming out for a creative winger, which we used to have in abundance. If Chair play that game, we win. If we had got ahead it would have been 2 or 3, similar to Bolton.
I actually think we will do better against the "better" teams where there is space in behind them but in those ones, more so than these, you have to take your chances. Hoping Kone can get some fitness and form ASAP. | | | |

We failed to create, apart from one which Smyth made a pretty average effort with and should have slotted the winner, any real proper chances. Tough to say why when we had so much of the ball and with so much advanced play but I am unsure if the forwards made enough penetrating runs, midfield & wide players did not deliver decent balls.
I thought Mbengue should have started because of his forward play, the two wingers, Vale (who appears to start every game & a proper JS favourite for some reason) & Smyth were very average indeed and we missed Chair badly with his forward play. Charlton were not very good at all.
2 points lost v Charlton along with 3 v Boro......1 point in the last 2 games when we should have 4 at a minimum. [Post edited 10 Sep 7:50]
