| Managers making non decisions 23:10 - Jul 15 with 4392 views | sevenhoop | I’m 66 years old. I’ve been going to the r’s for 60 years. I am sick and tired of watching managers of the only 2 teams I care about (r’s and England) making non decisions. I lose count of the amount of games at the Bush where every bleeding one of us see we need to make multiple changes, even when we are winning, get legs on , shake things up. Yet time and time again, no changes till far too late , 80 odd minutes. How F’ing difficult can it be ffs?! Tell the players before the game, “I will make changes, no reflection on those I bring off, put up with it’’. Last season Stephan no different to the ones before him. I hope and pray he changes this year so you don’t have to scream for changes. And England tonight. Yelling at the telly on 60, get some bloody legs on, so obvious and he didn’t do it. We could all see it. Legs, get legs on ffs!! Ollie Watkins, Rashford, anyone who is fresh ffs. Utterly devastated | | | | |

| Managers making non decisions on 23:16 - Jul 15 with 4330 views | 100percent | Not my words, but sums it up completely...... When Tuchel took over as England manager, he was direct about what he saw in Southgate’s teams during their run to the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals. Speaking ahead of his first match in charge, he said he wanted the team playing with a “hunger to win” rather than “a fear to lose.” His specific criticism: watching the Euros, he felt tension and pressure weighing on the players, who were playing not to lose rather than to win. He wanted a shift toward excitement and hunger, with acceptance that failure is simply part of football. Asked more pointedly whether England had a clear identity or playing style at the Euros, his response was blunt: “Not last summer, no.” He said what was missing was “the identity, the clarity, the rhythm, the freedom of players, the hunger.” And what does he do?? exactly the fcking same thing ...... feel your pain Sevenhoop.... | | | |

| Managers making non decisions on 02:57 - Jul 16 with 4038 views | nix | I’m very disappointed too. The one thing I wanted was to go out swinging if we had to lose. Whereas we went out with a whimper. I don’t blame the players I blame the manager with the lack of subs and then the subs he made. It’s so annoying because I think he’d been pretty much spot on in previous matches but last night he got it horribly wrong. And that’s not just with the benefit of hindsight because we were screaming at the TV too that we were sitting back way too much. The one thing you want to do against an ageing team is to stretch them, particularly as we have pace across the squad and an overall younger squad. But we did the opposite by allowing them to play to their absolute strength which was Messi’s pinpoint accuracy with crosses into the box and the movement of their attacking players in the penalty area. And allowing the player to have a free shot for the second goal is just unforgivable. My boys are devastated. I’ve got used to disappointment and you forget how much it hurts when you’re in your 20s. | | | |
| Managers making non decisions on 04:28 - Jul 16 with 3999 views | enfieldargh | TT no different to the last manager. Only Terry Venables seemed to be to have Englands mojo working. Was watching in Thailand at stupid o’clock on iPlayer stream occasionally dropping. As soon as we score its backs to the walls Last of the game I saw was the Dan Burn sub then there was a power outage lost the stream and beeb got back on in injury time when as I expected we were 2-1 down Am I bothered yes am I surprised no, at least I won’t have to go through another 90 minutes of watching a stuttering England performance. For me Football is only QPR and this season hoping Elvesburg win the Bundesliga-fat chance I enjoy watching football highlights across many leagues however 90 minutes is reserved for my beloved QPR Come on JS please be proactive and use the squad to its full potential | |

| Managers making non decisions on 10:40 - Jul 16 with 3662 views | TheChef | As Mike Tyson supposedly said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". Getting over the line is the biggest mental challenge in sport. Unfortunately apart from one day in 1966, English male footballers have consistently failed at that. Of course last night if the manager had kept a back four (regardless of the subs) we might just have managed it. Whether we would actually go on to win the final is another kettle of fish though. | |

I was eight in 66 and can remember some of it. There have been many disappointments since but this ranks with Mexico in 1970 as the biggest. This time it was because its been sixty years and the way, similar to 66, where we have found just enough in the matches so far, and with a 1-0 lead I thought we would again. In the quarter final in 1970, we were the reigning World Champions, probably had an even better team than 66, and 2-0 up against West Germany. When the opposition pulled one back we subbed Bobby Charlton with Colin Bell with 20 minutes left. We then changed Martin Peters for the more defensive Norman Hunter and almost immediately conceded again. The Germans scored with a backwards looping header over the smaller keeper Bonetti in our goal, due to Banks illness, to win 3-2 in extra time. [Post edited 16 Jul 14:01]

Did you think so after we’d played for a few minutes and they started having all those chances? Because we were all screaming at Tuchel to make changes and get us up the pitch. I don’t really remember 1970 matches but it.sounds like a similar issue to the one we have now. It’s it an English mentality thing that we’re too cautious???

| Managers making non decisions on 15:00 - Jul 16 with 3375 views | stevec | Excuse me Lionel, know we’ve had you tucked up in the middle of the pitch with no where to go for 60 minutes. Can only apologise, could we make it up to you for the final 30 by giving you free rein down our left, no tackles and a licence to lob crosses in at your leisure, promise. Gracias Senor Tuchel. | | | |

Yes, I was thinking similar thoughts. I did wonder at his defensive subs in the Mexico match but it worked very well then, so I was hoping it would again. Wayne Rooney, who has gone up dramatically in my estimation, as a pundit, during this tournament, hit the nail on the head; those tactics may work against ordinary or good sides but they won't work against the very best. Once momentum shifts it is extremely difficult to move it back especially against a team as fired up as Argentina. Nevertheless, we don't need to change manager. He was doing well before yesterday, he will hopefully learn the lesson and let's see how he does in the next Euros.
| Managers making non decisions on 16:51 - Jul 16 with 3215 views | Logman | What I couldn't understand was how, in his post match interview, he said he changed it because Argentina were getting crosses into our box and balls up between our centre backs. Absolute nonsense. We were matching them with our 4-4-2 after we scored, even if one or two players like James and Rice did look particularly tired. Should have stayed 4-4-2. My recurring nightmare now is that we are going to see similar scenarios at LR if we happen to go up against one of the big teams after three quarters of the match. Please God/Nourry, don't let that happen ... | | | |
| Managers making non decisions on 22:31 - Jul 16 with 3014 views | kensalriser | One thing everyone has learnt at this tournament is that both Argentina and England are better in attack than defence. So why choose defence in a game of attack v defence? | |

| Managers making non decisions on 10:46 - Jul 17 with 2752 views | thehat | The big decision he bottled he needed to take of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham as they were both running on empty and had nothing left in the tank which meant we had nowhere to go in possession. | | | |
| Managers making non decisions on 09:35 - Jul 18 with 2490 views | sevenhoop | All agreed. But oh for a proactive Stephan this season, one who makes bold in game decisions when obviously needed | | | |
