Agree, bringing in a new rookie manager to "cut his teeth" at the Club, make a balls up of a job and then to sod off for pastures new looks heavily like Barry Murphy and behold, we have done it again.

Next two games critical.......Shrewsbury, having dicked Salford are up to the dizzy heights of 18th while Saturday's opponents Gills, drop to 21st.....if we can't get something from these games we are goosed.

More new players in, more mess.

It's really sad that all the momentum has drained away in such a short time. Speaking to fellow fans the future looked so bright and now we are back floundering around.

Is Maynard on speed dial Simon ?

Are we being a bit harsh on Watson considering the injury situation? Would an Evans, Maynard, dare I say Hill have fared much better with a large selection of their expected first 11 was out injured?

You wouldn't want to be a manager facing a Fans Forum on 10 Sept unless we have signs of improvement over the next two games at home

As things stand, the atmosphere at the COA could be "difficult" by the end of the game on Tuesday, let alone a week today. A point at least, and then build upon that next Saturday

Otherwise, the board will have to take responsibility and cancel either our new manager's contract (and his assistants) or delay the forum. It's no longer even about opinions, luck or experience, simply the next two results

I don't want to see any manager sacked and would love IW to succeed and yes, we have injuries, but a defeat on Tuesday, then the board most consider its options, do they persist with IW and risk a situation in which, relegation is likely or enquire about Maynard or Robinson, in the hope of turning the season around, again replacing IW may go pear shape like the appointment of Jim Bentley.

Does IW need a wise head, like Keith Hill to advice him in an advisory role to help turn things around.

What worries me, is 1) Ramming looks nervous in games, 2) the defence shape is constantly changing 3) In the midfield we have some good players, but lacks leadership and the inability to dictate games, 4) Who is there to score the goals? Mani as scored just 4 goals in the EFL through out his career, Rodney as scored in most seasons in the EFL, with around 25 goals 'but is injured', Brown as scored 2 goals in roughly 45 EFL games. So we struggle to defend, cannot control the midfield (IW described the second half as chaos) and cannot even hit the target, never mind score. Otherwise all is fine.

What would the financial implications be of canning a manager and presumably all of his staff less than half a dozen league games into a 3 year contract? As well as then bringing in a new manager and staff who'll want different players, freezing out those on generous contracts who are already here? Granted we might be able to move some of those on but we also might be stuck with some picking up a good wage for doing sod all.

The Ogdens have been a Godsend for this club, but they're not a bottomless pit.

If we can have fans forums when Barrow was here overseeing years of rubbish, then I’d hope supporters could turn up and show Watson enough respect to expect to answer any fair question. If not, it’ll be a sad reflection on our fanbase.

If some think it’s ok to stoop to personal stuff (as seen already), that’s on them. Watson seems a very decent bloke, despite everything he doesn’t deserve some of the comments already being made.

Two more defeats though would be something the board would struggle to ignore. We can only hope something clicks for everyone’s sake. However unlikely that looks right now.

Admirable and ambitious as it was to give an up and coming young manager the reins, unfortunately, this season was not the time.
The increase in the fanbase and the feelgood factor generated by last season was the thing to hold on to. It has virtually evapourated in the first two games. Today puts the tin lid on it.
We gave IW a 3 year contract didn't we? It is going to cost a fortune to ditch him. The Ogdens, quite rightly, said they were not going to chuck money at the club. But, look at what they had to spend on the pitch last season and now this.....
But it is important that we keep the feelgood factor and momentum going. I think waiting for our injured players to make a return and IW to find his feet is too much of a risk.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Keeper did ok today - great stop in the first half to keep it at 0-0.
Sherring and Eel shaky still. Sherring sweeping (if that what it’s meant to be) seems a waste - we need extra bodies and help elsewhere on the pitch. Moss was excellent.
Absolutely toothless upfront.

I completely agree with your first two paragraphs.

However, I do think the chucking money at the club comment was probably made in respect of signing players on big wages and contracts. Funnily enough, I reckon you could actually argue that they have done just that in giving an incoming, inexperienced manager a three year deal

A big reaction is needed on Tuesday. We need to move the energy up a gear. All I’ve seen so far is us chasing the opponents. The amount of turnovers of the ball and backwards passing surely must be confidence?

Wilson, Ebanks, Sherring are the stuff of nightmares at the moment. Wilson was incredibly casual (again) in the build up to their goal and then Ebanks just absolutely flat footed and the wrong side of his man. It’s really basic stuff especially in the 87th minute when looking for your first clean sheet and point. The concentration levels just aren’t there.

Lots of people blew smoke up Ebanks backside last year but we have to be honest here. He isn’t good enough at this level and he wasn’t the last time around. The forwards aren’t exactly pulling up trees but the back is the issue for me. You sure that up and you stand a change. A vocal type Conrad Logan in that net, an experienced LB and more athletic and dominating CB and your fortunes turn. We are weak right down the core and it’s not been addressed at all.

When your captains giving away possession 30 yards out when it was harder to do than find a yellow shirt, along with shortly after trying a ‘crunching challenging’ and missing the ball and the man and his involvement in the goal it’s just not good enough at all. It looks desperate and it is desperate. You can just see / hear opposition fans saying ‘test that keeper he’s shite…get at that centre half he’s a carthorse, pressure him he will make a mistake’. Obviously Watson takes the flack and I’m not saying he shouldn’t, but for me the dury was out on the like of Ebanks, Gilmour, East etc in terms of the step up. And as it stands, it’s looking too much for them.

Meanwhile Alex Newby is firing. Which blows my mind. So… surely it’s confidence, bad luck, not gelled, bad form at a crucial time?

I’m desperate for Watson to catch a break. He’s learning, we all are. He’s been dealt a tough card with the injuries and his own decisions are just amplifying issues. He’s still tinkering and some of that is forced some of it is because he still doesn’t know. That’s the bit that is concerning but surely he gets a bit of luck soon and we move forwards?

He’s spoke about 2 more signings. For me it needs to be 3 and all vastly experienced!

Watson looked good on paper, I get the appointment.
However, I doubt anyone would have expected a manager to be so incompetent, injuries or not.
The three year deal suggests a massive clanger has been dropped. I hope the get out clauses are good.
The coaching manual clichés, the "we must improve", yet we remain as awful as we were in the friendlies and the Carabao Cup. The signings, selections, "tactics" (non-existent?) and bewildering substitution record defy logic.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

Watson's team is miserable to watch. Entertainment value is almost zero. The momentum of last season has almost disappeared. What will all the new season card holders make of it? You can't sustain or grow a business or community by letting one of the main dudes offer up rubbish at every opportunity. The fantastic investment that has driven the club forward so much cannot be reversed by Watson and the back up staff he brought with him, just to save face. The club comes first, always.

He has two home games to show what he papped on about in June and has not produced. We haven't won a single game of any type in 90 minutes under his charge. Two more screw ups and sackings have to happen.

Fans forum 10th September. Tick Tock......

I agree with most of this except the line that Watson’s appointment looked good on paper. I have to disagree.
This is someone whose playing career was limited to non league football and had only a single season as a first team manager - in the 6th tier - where he ultimately achieved nothing.
I’m not sure how those can be considered credentials suitable for an appointment to our club.

Maynard has no relevant EFL experience, which is a Nono for me.

The IW BBM comparison doesn’t work. BBM took over when we were in a bad way during the season and kept us up. IW was appointed in an accepted chaotic summer. Chalk and cheese.

Do agree we’re are in a time critical situation here.

Refwatch - Colchester United v Rochdale on 22:53 - Aug 29 with 2021 views442Dale

Whilst not specific to the opinions of whether Watson has been a good appointment, the facts remain (and they’ve been clarified before):

He has more first team coaching experience, including in the EFL, than BBM, McNulty and Hill when they were appointed.

More first team managerial experience than BBM, McNulty and Hill when they were appointed.

The last two “experienced” managers we appointed were Bentley and Coleman. Both had good lower league managerial records.

It’s best not to use comparisons to support opinions that fall down when the facts are taken into account.

Watson needs results in the next two games or there will be a decision to make. His tactics and selections come across as confusing and we actually look more unsure now than we did at FC Utd at the start of preseason.

He had 73 games at Notts County in League 2 and was tactically very good in the National League. It's whether he can do it with a lesser squad of players

Maynard took Notts County to the L2 play offs in 2025. He’s got 1.5 seasons of EFL experience as a manager.

Sort of agree. But, whatever he has or hasn't done in the past, IW has been godawful here, which matters more than any past stat.

Steve Parkin (first time, experienced with Mansfield) was fantastic. Hill was an instant success on zero experience. Luck of the draw? Maybe, and it's been very bad luck with IW.

Whatever, the current situation cannot continue.

Yeah, it is about what he does now he’s here. It’s the personal and blatantly incorrect stuff that ignores previous evidence to the contrary being used as an argument that isn’t, in my opinion, fair or with any substance.

No, i won't waste a split-second of my time doing that

The board have followed a thoughtful, due process. The only caveat i'd insert is the three-year deal, though that's probably what it took to get Watson from his promising position at South Shields

That was 2 divisions below where we'd been playing. Stockport took McNulty, who'd been managing 2 divisions below where they were. At the same stage of Watson's tenure at South Shields as McNulty's tenure at Dale, he was (if anything) slightly ahead and with a more solid background as an assistant coach - in the EFL

Talk of the board not having the right process in place is therefore plain wrong. We know how things look right now, and it's very disheartening, but my thoughts will be spent on how much our owners and co-chair have invested in us long-term, not on some nobodies taking a punt with the bookies in the expectation of gaining a few quid

Agree with these thoughts.

Personally I’m still on board with Watson..calls for change after 3 games is nonsense.

I think the owners will stick with the fella..it’s up to the players to step up..unfortunately I think 3 or 4 of our promotion side are not up to league 2 standard
