3 days in Vegas is plenty. We did it between Xmas and New Years last month. Go to Expedia for good airfare/hotel packages.

If you want to stay in a nice place like Aria right in the middle of the Strip, we stayed there really reasonably because we did it Tuesday-Thursday. So doing it midweek is the way to go if that works for you.

PM me if you need more, have a good one!

Yes very doable. Call any of the main travel agents and they will put something together for you. In Vegas are you looking to gamble or just have some fun? The strip is great and all the major hotels Bellagio, MGM, Ceasars aren't actually that much more expensive than some of the lower grade hotels. In the evening is when it gets expensive though. Best hotels in my opinion are the wynn/encore but depends what you're after. Trip to old town is great as the gambling tables are cheaper and there's always lots going on. To be fair though there is lots going on everywhere. In my experience you're better off getting show tickets here before you go, but you could get lucky. Trip to west rim Grand Canyon is worth doing but the basic trips are as good as the posh ones so I wouldn't pay for extras/upgrades. Shopping is great everywhere. Lots of real ale bars with surprisingly good beer. Clubs are great but pricey. I'm not a massive drinker or gambler but love it. Mental place. If you're gambling in any of the main casinos until late you may well get approached by friendly local girls. If it looks too good to be true it probably is. Have fun!

I've been three times.
Twice as part of an East to West trip and just after Xmas for a week.
The first two times we went for three days each time.
TBH if you are just going to experience Vegas, three days is enough, including to do a flight to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.
With shows, if you want to see the big shows book tickets before you go (if yo can get tickets). However we saw a few smaller shows which we bought tickets for at the ticket booth located at various locations along the strip. They offer discounts on shows, attractions, meals, etc.
WARNING : Do not be confused with the various official looking ticket tents, who are actually timeshare touts.
Example - we walked into one in the grounds of Caesar's Palace
They wanted a $50 deposit from us so my wife and I could see Donny & Marie at the Flamingo (wife is a child of the '70s - go figure). I said I'd get back to them. Checked at the Flamingo Box Office and turned out the Osmond siblings were on vacation until February !
Transport wise - taxis are easily available and reasonable (even on New Year's Eve it was no problem to get one straightaway)
Likewise to and from the airport.
There's also a bus (think it called Duo?) runs the length of the Strip 24 hours a day and to Fremont Street (Downtown - older casinos, well worth a visit). Also visit the Mob Museum whilst your there.
$8 pp for a 24 ticket use it as much as you like
New York is also easily doable in the same time frame.
One thing to be aware of. If you book direct with hotel and airline (prices may not be that much difference) the booking is usually flexible, with agents may well not be so once you are there.
We almost had a family emergency to come home early for, but couldn't change flight or hotel booking as we booked independently. Luckily for us emergency subsided.
With flights book direct with Norwegian to save money, go indirect (as long as you don't mind a couple of hours stop off) to save more money or go BA for the better quality flight Flew with Virgin last time and was disappointed.
Also consider to Vegas and home from NYC as journey time is less coming home - when your tired after the holiday

Mob Museum was brilliant not just for giving a history of organised crime in America, but also how Vegas developed and how the Mob saw it and used it as a lucrative cash cow
Also talked to one guy who said how the likes Louis Armstrong and Sammy Davis Jr were only allowed to use the tradesmen's entrances, even though on stage they were massive stars

If it's not a boys only trip and your wife or partner is going with you, I'd thoroughly recommend the Liberace Museum. It's the most brilliantly camp place on the planet and has a fascinating collection of his cars, pianos and costumes. Well worth it.

Damn - missed that !
We went to a brilliant car museum on the strip in at The Linq Casino.
They charge $12 dollars but you can download vouchers to get free entry - well worth the entrance fee !!!!
As a bonus you can also buy most of the cars if you have the cash

If you're going to do New York and Vegas I would suggest visiting them in that order. The reason being is that there is a three hour time difference and 6 hour flight between them (and that's if you get a direct flight). Four nights New York, three in Vegas.

Example depart NY at 1pm, arrive Vegas at 4pm so not much time lost.

other way round depart Vegas 1pm, arrive New York 10pm so essentially losing a day.

I would also book the flights as a package London-Vegas (with New York stop over) Vegas -London direct because if you book New York-Vegas flight separately it's about £300. Some airlines will do this for free but will probably have to be a US carrier, I know Delta do it.

Alternatively, if you've never been before you could easily spend a week in either and this is probably what I'd recommend. We did a week in New York last year and it was amazing, so many free things to do if you like walking, nothing too strenuous, especially with the exchange rate but it's still not cheap.

We also did a road trip from Vegas in 2013 which took in Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon South Rim (the part that everyone thinks of as the canyon) Monument Valley, Moab (Arches NP and Canyonlands NP) Page, Arizona (slot canyons, big bend and Lake Powell) and Zion NP. You'd be hard pressed to get a bigger wow factor in just over a week than this. Make it 10 days with 3 nights in Vegas to finish. If it whets your appetite, use google image Moab Utah and Page Arizona, you'll be surprised how many images that you recognise.
It sounds corny but you have to plan what you're going to do. You don't have to stick to it rigidly but by not having an itinerary you will miss out on so many things. Let me know if you want any help.

Get a helicopter to the Canyon/Hoover Dam, if you get a bus you will waste so much time sitting on the bus, as opposed to the places you're trying to visit

The hotel's on the strip are ,to all extents and purposes, the same in their layout, the casino floors are identical, same machines etc Paying top dollar at the MGM will probably get you nothing more than paying a decent price at somewhere like The Stratosphere.

Be careful if you're looking for accommodation off the strip, because Vegas get's incredibly sketchy, incredibly quickly, in the residential areas. I would stick to accommodation on the strip.

Try and book Vegas for the week days, all sorts of shows and conventions roll into town on the weekend, bumping up prices significantly.

I last went in March 2015 but booked the previous May. Found an amazing deal on BA website - flight only (economy) was £650 per person but combine flight and 3 nights in the 4* Planet Hollywood was £675 per person.

You can also book multi location bookings on BA website; I've done it with west coast US. They don't add hefty premiums for flying into one location and out of another and you can book different hotels in different locations.

You can probably do the same on Expedia etc but I've not done it.
3 or 4 days in each would be a superb trip, one I'd like to do myself. Lucky you!

It was a brilliant few hours! His jewel encrusted Cadillac / piano / cape combinations were unbelievable. And how the hell he played the piano wearing some of the rocks he had on his hands is beyond me.

The thing that is often missed about Liberace is quite how good a classical pianist he was - he just worked out how much money he could make as a showman instead.

Ooh I wish we had done that - last month was my first non-boys trip to Vegas and Melinda just did a lot of shopping during the day while I played Texas Hold Em.

We also went extremely old school by going to see Rich Little, who was kind of meh. I wanted to see Penn & Teller - hear that's a great show, but she had already seen them before.

Also, Jack_Kass is right about the helicopter to the Grand Canyon - that's a great way to see it. Did it with a buddy several years ago after we both had some really good fortune at the tables.

You should have looked it up before commenting. Delta JFK to Vegas 6hrs 6 minutes, and that's direct. Would take a lot longer in a Cessna. It's further than you think.

She'd have loved it :-)

One of the best nights we had in Vegas - four of us were there and it was my birthday - we were staying in the MGM, and realised Tom Jones was on (sold out). We went to reception on the off chance that they could help, and told them 2 of us were Welsh and it was my birthday and they got us 4 tickets at a booth with table service food and drinks about 20 feet away from Tom. Brilliant!

Agree with everyone else about the helicopter over the Grand Canyon - we stayed at the Grand Canyon and did it early in the morning as the sun was rising over the Canyon with them playing Wagner through the headphones a la Apocalyse Now. The bit as you go over the rim with the ground dropping a mile below you is incredible.

My two pence worth.

We spent 3 days there at the start of our holiday (Luxor hotel) and one day at the end of the holiday (Trump International). Comparing top and bottom of the strip felt like comparing night with day. The Luxor end didn't suit us at all. Sordid. We were dreading going back but the top of the strip, mysteriously, was nice. Trump International is slightly (inconsequential distance) off the strip and has no casino though that suited us.

We went to three shows (would've been four but Rod Stewart pulled a sicky). If you do nothing else while you're there go and see Rock of Ages.

Personally I'd go NYC then Vegas. Jet lag west-is-best and you "buy" time going west. Take the longer journey home overnight in a oner with a tailwind and 1-hr shorter flight time.

The modern strip of hotels nearer the airport has all the famous places, the main crossroads with the Bellagio,Ceasers Palace, Paris. They are all pretty good and so best to probably take the best deal. Venetian is nice, worth a visit anyway for the gondolas.
Places to visit here on the modern strip are the big wheel ( Large London Eye), pumphouse or Rock Bottom Brewery near entrance, good beer. Also, can wander up and down the modern strip enjoying the themes of the different hotels. Paris has a observation platform. New York has a Big Dipper ride that goes out then in again. I like enjoying the fountains at the Bellagio, every half hour each evening, at the Volcano show at the Mirage every hour, or a Pirate ship being sunk in battle in Treasure Island.

Shows, if you are sure exactly what and when you want to see it then contact the hotel or pre-book.
If flexible they have stalls on the strip like the late-sales tickets in Leicester Square. Still possible to get things like Copperfield in the MGM, Penn & Teller in the Rio etc if flexible.
Many Cirques du Soleil, so choose carefully.
Arty people might like the galleries (Bellagio modern art) , Peter Lik photography etc.
Apparently there is a great discount designer shopping mall a few miles out but that's not my thing!

Food, spoilt for choice, there's even a Nobu in Ceasers! The Bellagio have some overlooking the fountains, my mrs went with friends for a birthday girls trip and had a great table.

The older strip is a couple of miles away, has the Mob Museum which is ok, a zip wire (big queues peak) and for a good view of Vegas the Stratosphere is worth going up. Some scary fairground rides at the top also!

Definitely do a flight to the Grand Canyon. They used to have mule trips down a mile for an overnight stay with the tribes, mules can hack it and don't shy from snakes. These used to be booked a year out so don't know if they still do them. Hoover dam road trip or flyover.
There is an interesting Nucleur testing museum on Flamingo which for $15 is worth an hour though 25 mins walk from the Bellagio ( or cab). Some of the mega subterranean nuke tests were felt in New York, explains why the Nevada desert is pockmarked with craters from tests ( inc fake towns and live marines in trenches!)

Hope that helps, you'll have great fun 👍🏻
