Stoke's strategy to get promoted was by spending big money reinforcing their squad. West Brom's plan was to keep their Premier League players, probably on the same wages. Stoke have failed. West Brom will be in the play-offs but won't be favourites.

The three Premiership teams coming down will be Huddersfield, Fulham and either Cardiff or Southampton, none of who will scare us.
You're right about other teams not standing still of course, but we should probably finish higher next season than this season.
Anyway, to answer the original question, to squeeze into the play-offs this season we would probably need to get to 70 points - i.e. 23 points from the last 12 games (7 wins, 2 draws, only 3 defeats) - and hope that some of the teams above us collapse badly, and I can't see either happening myself. Mate that’s nonsense. The bottom line is we have a bunch of kids who have done very well and are keeping our play off hopes alive. That’s reward for the fantastic facilities at fairwood. This season and probably next season is all about stabilising. We will have a better squad next season due to the youngsters getting more mature / stronger / savvy. Plus there will be 2/3 new faces. Also there are another couple in the u23s that will come thru.

This season was our best chance of going back up.we blew it.
I agree we will languish lower down the table next season unless a serious war chest is brought out (we all know it won't be).

The season has been questionable in not getting the most out of Carroll, Routledge, Dyer, Narsingh, Fer, Olsson, Montero. Partly because of injury and partly because of selection.

Of course we've had to, where's the money coming from to pay them?
You don't need to see detailed copies of Swansea's current accounts to know that our income dropped £60m this season and another £20m next, and that we were paying a ludicrous amount in wages. PL and Championship TV money is public knowledge, our previous accounts are out there to look at, figures from comparable Championship clubs in past season is available etc.

Jasper's spot on. In wages alone we were paying about £99m in the PL. Income this year will be about £60m at best. We simply cannot afford to keep those on wages that are higher than Championship norm. We have to sell the top earners, and likely many of the middle earners too (which is why the likes of Montero and Carroll have gone). |  | | |

Clucas, baston, ayew brothers, bony, etc etc etc.....what a complete shambles of a cock up we were in our last few seasons at the illustrious top flight.
What we need, is a good footballing manager, check, we already have him (apart from some of his bizarre head scratching decisions with formation and the ongoing goalkeeper shambles). And then we need good decent owners who have the best interests of the club at heart instead of filling their own pockets at any given opportunity they can to the DETRIMENT of the club. We currently don't have those type of owners.

This division was completely up for grabs for anyone at the start of this season, providing they had the correct investment and proper prior planning, and adopt the attitude of "getting at the opposition from the start"
