Newport County & Swansea City team news
County have had a busy window with the signings of striker Ryan Taylor from Plymouth, David Longe-King from St Albans City, Saikou Janneh from Bristol City and right-back Liam Shephard from fellow League Two side Forest Green Rovers.
With the losses of Brewster and club captain Mike Van Der Hoorn, Swansea have bolstered their squad with the signing of winger Jamal Lowe, Korey Smith from Bristol City, resigning Freddie Woodman from Newcastle and Marc Guehi from Chelsea on loan and a further loan signing of Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
Both squads could be full of debutants come Saturday at Rodney Parade.

ONE TO WATCH
Morgan Gibbs-White
SWANSEA CITY

Midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is one of the most promising young players in English football, having won both the Championship with Wolves and the Under-17 World Cup with England in 2017.

The 20-year-old has made 53 appearances for Wolves so far, and scored his first goal for the club in August 2019 during the clubs Europa League qualifier with FC Pyunik.

Gibbs-White will be hoping he can establish himself as a first-team regular this season, and that could start with a debut this weekend.

Updates to follow. Join in Jacks and enjoy the game.

Indeed, good work Loyal.

At least there is a matchday thread on this site...

The only two players we have who a bit of flair and look like they can create any thing are Paterson and celina.
But Cooper don't rate them.
Strange?

That it wasn't the league and it will ease fixture congestion.

Spot on.

Made the schoolboy error of over confidence and lack of application against supposedly lower level players.

Wouldn't see the All Blacks do that, ever.

Comparing The Swans with the All Blacks please don`t.

Doesn't look like Celina is coming back after the internationals.
Just a case of if the financials tie up.

IF Ayew is our 10, Celina will always be second best.

Has bags of ability, delivers some mercurial performances, but unfortunately carries some baggage. Not even Pellegrini was able to get the best out of him.

From troubled and humble beginnings, hats off to him for what he has achieved so far. If he goes, will be fondly remembered.

Never a winger but constantly picked there, whilst real wingers were benched.
Celina has to be a first eleven pick, so maybe ....

Fred

Naughts
Big Ben
Big Joe
Roberts

Grimes

Celina
Connor G

Routs
Rhian
Andre

Might have been a pick last season

Newport County v Swansea City : Matchday Thread on 09:55 - Sep 6 with 700 viewsBadlands

Cooper completely misread the situation in the second half.
The trio of Routledge, Bidwell and Smith wasn't the problem. (Noe were excelling but Wayne and Jake were giving it a go along with Rodon and Ayew.
Newport were defending their lead and crowding the defence so continuing to try to waltz through was never going to achieve anything. There was no variety. nothing to give Newport a need to think.
The starting line up was strange and subs did nothing to improve the situation.
Cooper really doesn't have much of a clue.

Not surprised the amount of changes that are being made each time the swans visit an away ground. Apparently 75% of dressing rooms have been moved to other locations due to social distancing.

OK I've changed it.

Our owners are the kings of social distancing.

Maybe we need to tell the players not social distance from the ball?

We're in a place where players will sometimes need to run through brick walls but our kids often don't even have the nerve to knock the door. We are too happy to go sideways and backwards, too scared to go forward in case we...gasp.....lose possession. Other teams force it, try to take chances when we deem too many chances are too risky.
But then, it was our first competitive match, we had players missing and Coops still hopes to bring some in (though maybe to replace more being sold) so do we need to get too worried?

Maybe until we know what the squad will look like (until January anyway) what formation Coops intends to stick with, what his first choice side is and possibly only until after 9/10 matches, it's hard to judge.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

This makes sense, his man-management skills are notoriously poor. Birch was aware and had a watching brief to help him out. Hope he's handed this over

This where someone like Trundle could really help, to bridge the obvious chasm. And/or a vocal Captain

(btw, any real evidence of losing the dressing room ? would be helpful)

Then they should buckle down and see what those tactics did back end of last season.
Cooper with some support from the 68 percenters would be a start.

OK I've changed it.
