Dr Drakeford and his cronies have really set the bar high on the incompetence stakes on this one.
They have announced tonight that retailers will only be allowed to sell “essential goods” during the 17 day lockdown but they are unable to say what counts as essential or non essential. At the time of writing this there is just over 18 hours to go until these rules come into force. The predictable result is that the entire population of Wales will rush out in the short time that is left and ravage the shelves of anything and everything that could potentially count as non essential. Meanwhile retailers are completely in the dark with just a few hours to go they are blissfully unaware of what they will or won’t be allowed to sell or whether they’ll be allowed to stay open at all.
Absolute idiocy from dippy Drakeford and this cabal of insidiously irrational imbeciles.

That particular skill has always been and will be in demand . Well until we wipe ourselves out
There'll alwasy be midwives, undertakers and tax collectors. Though personally I plan on digging a big hole and being buried in my back garden and not telling anyone anything besides I'm just going on an adventure. Then my wife can carry on getting my Occupational pension!

Is there actually any herd immunity? People have been reinfected. What if we end up having to accept living with this virus?
It's a nasty thought which begs a nasty question, how long can or will the world put up with living with all these restrictions? At some point will people say enough, let us live our lives and take our chances? Some already are but what if the vast majority said that?
The jury is still out.Only a tiny handful among millions say they have been re infected. It's not really conclusive yet, tests may have been wrong, they may have had a flare up of the symptoms or picked up dead virus in the testing.
Antibodies don't seen to stay around for long, but I believe it's not just about antibodies.Herd immunity, if it will happen has a long way to go yet

Why don't you look at the worldometer site at the UK for the peak period from April 10th to April 21st. The cases were running at just under 5000/day and for the same period deaths were around 1000/day.
And take a look at how Sweden the country that never locked down are doing whilst there there.

I cannot believe what I read.People saying they wont have the vaccine. The world is on hold effectively.
We cannot control this killer virus, but if we come up with a vaccine that might protect us then we won't be having that as it is another example of companies and governments trying to control us all.
Millions have died ,many more will die,we find a vaccine and refuse it.
Mankind is inane .Clearly
People die of flu, we have a vaccine.
Your point is?

Sweden has the highest mortality rates of any comparable Scandinavian country by a long way. They decimated their elderly population, are nowhere near herd immunity and their economy hasn't done particularly well. Cases are currently shooting up there too.
Your so wrong mate, there daily death figures have been averaging 3 to 5 a day for the past 4 or 5 months, all you guys keep coming out with is the losses they had at the start of the pandemic because they did not make the decision to shut down, yet you mention nothing of the far greater amount of lives they have saved by continuing normal medical care for everything else, let alone the non destruction of there economy and the non losses of jobs on a major scale which is happening here.

They have a mortality rate , 10 times higher than Norway and Finland, and 5 times higher than that of Denmark.
New cases are also shooting up too. You need to check the facts mate

isn't the criteria if someone dies within 28 days of testing positive then its marked as dying from the virus. My mother in law passed away in a care home during the first lock down, she contracted it became poorly ,was tested positive then tested twice with both subsequent tests negative. Her death certificate had cause of death Covid-19 , she was 93

Worldometers 1,170,258/44,183,213 = 2.6%
That's assuming both of those figures are correct and we know they aren't.
From what I've read in reputable articles the IFR seems to be around 0.7%.
In itself that is immaterial to lockdown and restrictions though. The important figure is how many need hospital treatment, that seems to be around 5% of all infections a massive number if we didn't impose restrictions to some degree.

Except that is not true...traces of the virus are found in sewage, it is not spread via sewage.
Thankfully, Covid coming from you would be fragrant.
Covid from HJ would be polished.
...
Not true my fragrant arse ;) now now DJ get your facts straight
What I said IS TRUE, read the post again.....
‘Given similar viruses have spread through the sewerage system, and potentially infectious SARS-CoV-2 has been found in faeces, it is logical that one almighty fart could aerosolise more virus than an 8 metre sneeze.’
And here is why...
Scary Reminder of the 2003 SARS Outbreak The possibility of the coronavirus being transmitted through building sewage pipes immediately drew comparisons to the 2003 SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) coronavirus outbreak, where this was discovered to be a major source of transmission. At the Amoy Gardens housing estate, also in Hong Kong, more than 300 infections and 42 deaths occurred after poorly-designed plumbing allowed the SARS virus to spread throughout the building complex. As a result, following a 24-hour medical lock-down, the residents were moved to confinement camps for 10 days as doctors, clinicians, sewage experts and engineers investigated. Â
SARS-COV-2 excretion and detection via the orofecal route A review of 29 relevant studies (23 published and 6 preprints) reported that approximately 12% of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection reported gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting. Eight included studies reported the detection of viral RNA of SARS-CoV-2 in stool and the pooled analysis reported that RNA shedding in stool was detected in up to 41% of COVID-19 patients [Parasa 2020]. In a group of 206 hospitalised patients with mild COVID-19, digestive symptoms were present in over half: 48 presented with a digestive symptom alone, 69 with both digestive and respiratory symptoms. [Han C 2020]Â Patients with digestive symptoms had a longer duration between symptom onset and viral clearance and were more likely to be fecal virus-positive (73% vs 14%, P=0.033) than those with respiratory symptoms. A further review of fourteen small studies that vary from 153 cases to a single case report reported that SARS-CoV-2 may be transmitted oro-fecally [Amirian 2020]
OK.

Entirely misses the point.
Today there are apparently 3 icu beds available in Northern Ireland. 2 in paediatric icu and 1 in cardiac ICU.
If two people have serious heart issues in Northern Ireland at the moment there isn't a bed for one of them. I wouldn't want to be that person.
That is why we need to control covid. Not to stop old people dying but to allow as many people as possible to have the treatment they need.
Belfast Newsletter today , not looking good atm, Stay safe
" Good afternoon,
Welcome to today's Coronavirus update from the News Letter team.
"This is the worst week in the NHS probably in living memory and the concern is that next week will be worse."
No one could fail to be concerned at the words of Dr Tom Black, chairman of the British Medical Association's Northern Ireland Council.
His warning comes as we sadly report today that another 13 people in Northern Ireland who had tested positive for Covid-19 have died in the past 24 hours. Our sincere condolences are extended to all the families affected.
A further 722 people have tested positive over the same period of time.
The figures - along with an increasing demand for space in our hospitals - are a stark reminder of just how serious every single one of us must take the spread of the virus and do everything we can to help curb it by following the health guidelines.
Thanks for reading and stay safe.

We had the Nightingale/Enfys hospitals and they were hardly used, then closed down. Now we have hospitals filling up again and things like this happening,
So the threat of Covid of overated then. No need to distance as it's not really much worse than flu No need for masks as they can spread it themselves and No lockdown so we can mix freely, kiss, cuddle, fight and vomit over each other in the pub after we've been to the footy.

It's a means of controlling us
Think Ive covered it all.
God help us all
Some people are in that camp, some people are too far the other way.
I'm staying in the middle, a less strict lockdown but at least 4-6 months to stay on top of things. Strict, heavy punishments for rule breakers.
