| “Firebreak lockdown” a masterclass in incompetence. 23:33 - Oct 22 with 24946 views | Highjack | Dr Drakeford and his cronies have really set the bar high on the incompetence stakes on this one. They have announced tonight that retailers will only be allowed to sell “essential goods” during the 17 day lockdown but they are unable to say what counts as essential or non essential. At the time of writing this there is just over 18 hours to go until these rules come into force. The predictable result is that the entire population of Wales will rush out in the short time that is left and ravage the shelves of anything and everything that could potentially count as non essential. Meanwhile retailers are completely in the dark with just a few hours to go they are blissfully unaware of what they will or won’t be allowed to sell or whether they’ll be allowed to stay open at all. Absolute idiocy from dippy Drakeford and this cabal of insidiously irrational imbeciles. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk- | |

I just did a bit of research and googled him because I was interested. He seems to have caused controversy amongst his peers for claiming statins don't work. It's not my opinion, it seems to be that of his fellow professionals. Now I think statins are the most prescribed drug in the world, so he's ploughing a lone furrow by the looks of it. Of course, he may be correct and every other Dr in the world be wrong. Or he could a bit of a charlatan? All I've done is what you should do before posting links and theories, you'd probably avoid looking daft and being taken to the cleaners then.

We all choose who and what we want to believe. We are right and we are wrong, at various times. But still, it's better to question, better to actually have an opinion than to blindly follow. We are all entitled to our opinions, even if they are obviouslt daft. I still believe we need a soft lockdown where businesses that can meet the criteria can stay open, a soft lockdown that lasts at least 3-4 months, through the worst of the winter. Maybe even 6 months until the lighter evenings and hopefully better weather is back, past flu season.

It’s nowhere near the same density as the UK, Sweden is 25 per square kilometre whereas the UK is 275 per square kilometre. England is over 430 per square kilometre. Wales is about 150 and Scotland 65. |
Most of sweden live in the cities or large towns, this is where the density is equal to England’s cities.

I completely agree. N Ireland have clearly shown how to reduce cases whilst allowing contact between families and many businesses to remain open. We aren't a far from those in terms of population so if we considered that form of lockdown a worst case scenario for a few weeks with pubs and hairdressers etc open when safe for the rest of the time. I think we'd be in a decent spot to get us through to spring.

Approximately 2.7m of the 10m Swedes live in the 4 big cities, hardly most. The average population density in their urban areas is 1,423 per sq Km, England has over 110 urban areas with a higher population density. I’d say this was hardly equal to Englands Cities.

Yes. So you are not aware that unsaturated fats can be more dangerous? I suggest that you do some research on the latest thinking. https://greatist.com/health/sa https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/ho https://www.mensjournal.com/fo Diabetes is a modern desease when we had nothing but saturated fats to eat diabetes was almost non existent, now it is almost epidemic.

When have we ever had nothing but saturated fats to eat? Was it the early carboniferous or the holocene optimum? I'm pretty convinced as a layman, that if I lived off nothing but saturated fats I wouldn't be as healthy as I am. Remember, he said they do no harm whatsoever. This is completely of topic but you are showing yourself up to be a mug again, or is it me doing the showing? Either way it's not relevant. [Post edited 30 Oct 2020 20:38]

He may be proved right, only time will tell. It could have been handled better though. What we really need is for people to use their common sense, maintain social distancing, hygiene practices, refraining from entering other people’s homes and we should be able to improve the position. If we don’t do that then it’s going to get worse.

Agreed. I think the Cummings story did untold damage to the rates of peoples compliance. Had to be sacked.

Ha Ha very funny, 100 years ago there were very few "un-saturated fats", just margarine, so if you wanted fat in your diet it had to be saturated fats or margarine. Most people ate cheese, meat fat and drank full cream milk.

And since the 70's heart disease, as a % of cause of deaths, is decreasing. Obviously there are many variables impacting this but lots of things point to Dr Kendrick being a crank. There are many cranks about, they are easy to find. Untill covid they were often offering their opinion on climate change.

Prof Drakers was right after all. I am thinking of setting up a kettle and crap books export business for English people who thought that Wales could not manage without buying kettles and crap books for two weeks, the fecking drama queens.

I'll be shocked if we do. Drakers has put is marker down now, England will go the next one alone. We will probably go into the next one with them though, and I'll be surprised if it doesn't start on December 30th.

I agree. This isn’t going to look good for Boris. Starmer was calling for a Welsh type lockdown over half term three weeks ago, Drakeford did it and Boris now looks as though he’s going to follow Drakeford‘s lead. Protecting the NHS and some sort of family Christmas is going to be a priority now and then another lockdown straight after Christmas to try to keep a lid on the Christmas induced surge. Hard lockdown over Christmas would risk civil unrest.

This 100%. I have said since the start of this lock down, the aim is to give families Christmas if possible, but no way will NYE parties be allowed.

I just think we'll be impacted too, and completely agree that Boris has been shown to be an utter clown. I'm thinking the big chain shops, restaurants and producers will close warehouses and suppliers and we'll end up with places closing or not opening as a result. That could be good for smaller businesses though. Anyway, I think we can write off November and January. Hope to god there's a decent vaccine by the spring.
