| “Firebreak lockdown” a masterclass in incompetence. 23:33 - Oct 22 with 24896 views | Highjack | Dr Drakeford and his cronies have really set the bar high on the incompetence stakes on this one. They have announced tonight that retailers will only be allowed to sell “essential goods” during the 17 day lockdown but they are unable to say what counts as essential or non essential. At the time of writing this there is just over 18 hours to go until these rules come into force. The predictable result is that the entire population of Wales will rush out in the short time that is left and ravage the shelves of anything and everything that could potentially count as non essential. Meanwhile retailers are completely in the dark with just a few hours to go they are blissfully unaware of what they will or won’t be allowed to sell or whether they’ll be allowed to stay open at all. Absolute idiocy from dippy Drakeford and this cabal of insidiously irrational imbeciles. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk- | |

| “Firebreak lockdown” a masterclass in incompetence. on 16:20 - Nov 2 by Catullus | Bedwetters? Selfish I truly hope you don't find out what it's like to lose someone. To have someone on a ventilator for weeks and not be able to see them then get that phone call. Or to have friends who tried for years to have children, who paid for their IVF only to have the mother taken away when the kid is just 6 years old. Selfish be damned. |
I’ve lost both of my parents Before I reached 30 , my mother suffered badly with cancer and I had to make the call on the DNR at the hospital. My daughter who was in ICU for 5 weeks as a 5 week old, she came out eventually with quadriplegic cerebral palsy., she is now 37, can’t walk or talk or do anything for herself, it’s lovely having to give personal care to someone who was born without disabilities, we just get on with it. Edited to add that one night, the doctor said he didn’t expect Stacey to survive the night. I know what it’s like to suffer grief and lose family or loved ones. My point was about the country having the crap scared out of them when in all honesty, most people will be fine, they are the bed wetters. We’ve had mask and lockdowns for months, why are cases rising if they work? Something isn’t right but people are falling for it. [Post edited 2 Nov 2020 16:49]

Something isn't right and that could be a complete mess is being made by the governments, all of them.. Or it could be the people who think this is some kind of massive sham, who ignore the rules and just carry on regardless, like those 700 at that rave in Bristol. How many got infected there, how many took it home to elderly relatives and have condemned them to covid? You know I think the truth is somewhere in between what you think and what the government are saying, as is the right thing to do. You can't just call people selfish and bewdwetters though for worrying about a virus that does kill people or causes a situation where people die because of it. Plenty of staff at Morriston Hospital are worried about Covid, as they are at NPT, are these medical staff selfish or bedwetters?

Very sorry to hear all that Andy Just watched a news article on a Liverpool hospital, where COViD patients are taking up a massive percentage of all beds, staff sickness levels really high and remaining staff really struggling to cope Getting the best balance is really difficult

My wife got stage 4 cancer and somehow survived .Both my parents died of it but as old people.I hate the fookn disease. Bottom line is all we can do is to wear mask and keep distance to avoid it. Seems its a barstad to avoid and is mutating so we're in dire straights. I see no perfect solution. I have lost 3 good friends now to covid and another has caught it so Im very sensitive to all this now, almost paranoid. It only take one carrier to spread it big time and that is the problem. A minority being irresponsible. That said, I truly hope your family and mine get through this unscathed.

Thanks Chad. The reason I posted all that was to show that I understood certain situations and losses. All of the above happened between 30 and 40 years ago, life becomes normal in time. One good thing that came out of Stacey’s disability, my other children don’t see disabilities in others, they are just people like the rest of us, I. So proud of the way they react and treat such people. Small mercies hey.

Why do they not put Welsh subtitles on the English language one? Would that be because all welsh speakers can understand English? If so, why bother with a stupid Welsh language advert?

OOH you could get me started here. If people want to speak Welsh fine, if people want to learn Welsh, great, it's their choice. However, with money being so tight should we be spending on pushing Welsh so hard? If the answer is yes then ok but shouldn't the Senedd be cleverer with how they spend the money?

One upmanship over the English ? perhaps to show we do things our way supported by a language which is not english ( albeit spoken by a large minority)

Rubbish. Thats another uniformed view straight from the 1970s. Welsh has equal status in wales as english, so our public bodies are required by law to offer their services in both languages. If you are genuinely concerned about how much it costs there is no need to be. Digital services require little printing. And - of course - a better way of saving real money would be to cancel Trident replacement at a mad £205 billion. I hope this helps. Cancelling Brexit would also save a lot of money. Choices eh ?

This 400 more than the daily average for the last week. He has also announced no local lockdowns and people are free to travel anywhere in Wales to holiday. This means people from very high infection rates areas can travel to the low infection rate areas. Madness is the only word to describe it. |

No just pointing out that the funding for the provision of services in welsh is inexpensive compared to other areas. Its about choices. Read it again and try to understand. The return to the EU on worse terms is now inevitable. Trump rejected yesterday. Brexit and Johnson next up for rejection.

Infection rates in Wales are still rising. Cases per 100,000 in last 7 days. Wales 290 and rising NI 290 and falling England 229 stable Scotland 146 and falling. Total cases per 100,000 Ni 2152 Wales 1765 England 1659 Scotland 1252 The situation in Wales is out of control yet Drakeford is ending lockdown on Monday. Lockdown should continue until new cases in Wales start to fall. I do support a lockdown but not a silly "firebreak" of two weeks. Infection rate in my area is 49 about a sixth of Wales yet we are going into lockdown while Wales is coming out of lockdown. Drakeford clearly has turned science on it's head. Welsh residents in high infection rate areas (most of Wales) will be free to travel to the three low infection rate areas from Monday. Madness!

We won't know if the firebreak has worked for at least a week after it finished. I personally know people who broke the rules including several medical staff, young people over the local park and some of my neighbours. I disagreed with aspects of the lockdown but I followed the rules regardless.

Any more of this and you will joining me in the corner of Burning Hell Cymru where all those who have ever questioned the Welsh Language are sent. Mind you at least 75% of Wales be be there-the quiet ones in the corner that have been too scared to say anything remotely negative about an arcane to many ancient language that utterly divided Wales.

Welsh has equal status because the Senedd made it so. Digital services require little printing, true, but the cost goes beyond what the Sened prints. Every utility has to send bilingual bills, we foot the cost. Schools have to make extra provisions, put another lesson into an already crowded and underfunded curriculum. On Trident I agree. Cancel it and give Wales an extra 1o-12 billion!

I think we call already see the fire break as failed. Caerphilly been in lockdown since mid September. 17 of the regions since 29th September that is 5 weeks ago and infection rates are still rising. Doubt another 3 days of lockdown will make much difference.

It used to be the old grammar schools or the 1950s/60 killy, when we discussed this thorny issue. Get over the fact most in Wales don't want to learn Welsh nor see it as pre eminent ,which it has to be for people who love the language like you. I see it as being stuck in the 20s,arguing over a means of communication which is what a langauge is. "Culture" is not purely about language and for many Welsh people, Welsh culture is exactly that as it is in England.

The reason regional lock downs failed and the reason they will not be used after we come out of the Welsh national lock down, is because people did not stick to the area they were supposed to. Any lock down or restrictions need to be on a national level for it to work. Even during the current Welsh lock down people are travelling over the border to go out, this will be far worse when England are in lock down and we are not. Do not just think of the severn bridge, think of the whole Wales England border.

Status is simply a technical term and not one that applies as regards welsh for many. How many watch S4C rather than English language programmes We ARE a nation where English is the lingua franca for the vast majority and those who can and want to speak Welsh and Gaelic can do so and that is fine
