| Home Rule 10:49 - Feb 28 with 18879 views | Catullus | Drakeford wants it, devo max, go Federal, whatever you want to call it. His speech said a lot but was very light on detail. It was full of optimistic generalisations without saying much at all. It is obvious now why the Labour party wanted to give the vote to 16/17 year olds, they are targettting them at the next election with this home rule demand because they know young people are more likley to support it, or independence. This change in the voting laws was nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with tilting the vote in their favour but maybe it'll backfire and those youngsters will vote Plaid? That aside, whn will we hear details? When will Drakeford give us the opportunity to weight up his plans? He has also said more than once he won't serve a full term if he wins, that most likely means we'll have Gething foisted on us...from frying pan into the fire then. Can we vote for a party when we know the leader isn't interested in doing the term? Certainly people didn't like it when we had Bojo foisted on us, plenty said we didn'tvote for him and said it wasn't democratic. | |

| Home Rule on 14:24 - Mar 11 by exhmrc1 | Ministers have openly stated it was the plan to open all primary schools and exam years. Kirsty Williams clearly stated that on Monday. Vaughan Gething made it clear that they were looking to move from stay at home to some form of stay local yesterday. You commented on that yesterday. Mark Drakeford has previously said that they were looking to open some shops and also open tourism by easter if circumstances allow. You continually ignore these things like everything else because it doesnt meet your anti Drakeford right wing agenda. I saw the interview with Rhun Ap Iorwerth and he didnt say what you claimed as has been outlined in the email he replied with. He doesnt believe you can make plans ahead as things are so uncertain. |
So. "Vaughan Gething MADE IT CLEAR that they were looking to move from stay at home to SOME FORM of stay local yesterday" What does "some form of stay local" mean, it's supposed to be live in less than 48 hrs? I'd hardly describe that as making it clear. "looking to open some shops " What shops? All Shops? Hairdressers? Tattooists? Non-essential in supermarkets? Next in Morfa still has it's Xmas display up. "open tourism by easter if circumstances allow" What circumstances? What tourism? Outdoor attractions? "what we intend doing over Easter and into the middle of April. More than that I think is impossible to say definitely," Well every other leader seems to be able to announce a longer plan - believe it or not most people realise it isn't set in stone. Drakeford isn't prepared to think more than 3.5 weeks ahead. And you think that this constitutes a plan? Bearing in mind Scotland and England have a plan through to the Summer and Northern Ireland a long term undated plan. I certainly don't have a right wing or anti Drakeford agenda. I'm not right wing at all and Drakeford just happens to be inept. Post the email you have personally received from the email from Rhun ap Iorwerth then - he absoulutely, definitely, 100% called for a long term plan. I'll reply to him and ask why he has lied to the public.

Gething certainly did as you yourself commented about Angelsey. Like everything else it will be advised tomorrow. What shops Again to be announced tomorrow. As regards tourism again will be announced tomorrow. Drakeford is right we dont what will happen beyond a month. Who would have guessed the Welsh rate would have gone up today. We dont know what the situation will be in 3 months time. You were pressing for everything to be open last summer. Did you know how high the figures would go when you were suggesting opening everything or did you just not care. We have already been in a mess and certainly dont need the same thing to happen again through following your reckless ideas. We need a proper sensible careful approach not making plans for a future that we have no idea of. The Welsh public have backed the Welsh government whereas you have constantly backed Johnson.

So, where's the email? Do you really think "some form of staying local" is a clear plan? I'll be pressing for exactly the same again this year when safe. People can't stay on furlough, they have to work to pay you. Do you think a sensible approach will include guidance for pubs and gym's when they open? Cases will increase as society opens its inevitable. Hopefully the vaccine will make the difference.

Some sort of staying local was Gething's way of saying there hasnt been a final decision made. There is a meeting today at which a final decision will be collectively arrived at. Cabinet government and only you think it is proper to make an announcement before a final decision is taken but then again you think it is right to make announcement's when factors arent known. Look at Johnson's foolish decision to make an announcement that all would be back to normal by Christmas. What happened to that. As far as the vaccine is concerned nobody knows what the take up is going to be in lower age groups. Just one of the unknown factors. You keep harping on about the Kent variant. There could well be other variants for which the current vaccines wont work. Getting people back safely and not going into another lockdown will help the economy. There may well be some sections of the economy that wont be able to be opened. Off hand I am thinking of nightclubs and festivals but that decision needs to be taken when more info is known not now. Some areas might still need government support for a longer period whilst others will trade freely. As far as pubs and gyms are concerned it is clear to everyone including them there is a 2 metre rule in Wales. They dont need special instructions to follow the law of the land. Medical and scientific experts are expecting a third wave. We dont know when this will be. It is impossible and foolish to make predictions months ahead with so much uncertainty. We have already seen a prime minister making a fool of himself trying to make predictions months in advance.

| Home Rule on 11:56 - Mar 11 by exhmrc1 | The whole UK has followed what you have asked for. It lead to us ending up back in lockdown. Perhaps it might be time to a more careful approach. If you listen to idiots like this anyone would think Wales is the country not looking to open shops until Mid April at the earliest. There is a major problem with opening shops now. Look what happened after the firebreak lockdown where Cardiff was absolutely crammed with shoppers many of whom came here from England and it is likely the same will happen this time. Perhaps Drakeford should announce shops will open on the same date as England along with our tourist accommodation who would then lose Easter trade. I am sure these people being reported will thank him for doing so. |
Cardiff shoppers travelled from England "many of whom"...really? Have you the evidence for that or is it a guess? I agree with you about being careful, taxman. I agree moving too quickly could end up being 2 steps back. I can't agree with you guessing though, you don't like it when others do it. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ So where is the evidence of "many"? There's a few, a couple from Essex. If Crdiff had MANY from England surely the police would have seen them on the motorway?

You could always email Rhun back and ask if he minds? Go on. I saw on the BBC Rhun saying that 5 miles in Cardiff is very different to 5 miles on Anglesey.

I dont intend breaking a confidence. Yes Rhun did say that and in all probability it is true. He was on about what could be done in both areas within 5 miles rather than the actual distance. Looking more local if you were going from Graig y nos to Sennybridge how many things could you do or indeed how many would you see .Where would your local supermarket be probably Ystradgynlais for Graig y nos way over 5 miles. I dont think it is the distance that ever really mattered. The idea of staying local is to prevent going from a high case area to a low case area and causing spread. Hopefully it will work in preventing the masses arriving in Cardiff as happened after the firebreak otherwise we will see a huge jump in cases.

I'm just a little surprised that the Plaid Cymru health spokesman has replied so quickly (less than 24hrs) to a member of the public who isn't even a constituent, and with a bespoke email rather than a generic one from their assistant. Especially as it seems to be completely opposite to the stance he took live on the BBC. That sounds like you are describing Arlene Foster in the first part of the last paragraph and Drakeford in the second. It's no excuse not to have a plan.

If you email him and he says it's OK it's not breaking a confidence though. Scotia, as it goes I emailed the Plaid generic email yesterday afternoon. I laid out my views and asked them to convince me why I should vote for them. I've not had an answer yet. Maybe I should try Rhun?

I'd be furious if I was a shop keeper or worker. Imagine being on 80% of your minimum wage salary for a further month, despite indications that may not have been the case just yesterday. This is getting ridiculous now. We need a plan. Any plan.

It is Drakeford's cautious approach and acting decisively that has led to lower deaths and cases here. It wasnt Drakeford who wanted to open everything in a rush was it. I wonder who advocated that. The evidence clearly shows that last August after cases had fallen for months they increased when pubs opened and was fuelled by people returning from abroad. Guess who it was that had been advocating these be done. It is also a fact that around 2 weeks after pubs were closed in December the figures started declining and have since until recently when the rate of decrease has slowed. It is partly why Drakeford has not opened retail. Also he is fully aware of the impact of opening shops after the firebreak when English shops were closed. People flooded in here and he wants to prevent that happening again. Anyway after posting that link yesterday with a shopkeeper complaining about not knowing what was happening she now has her wish. 4 weeks notice to open. I am certain many will regret their actions. Drakeford was attempting to open as soon as it was possible yet people like you criticise him whatever he does. The figures prove he has got it right.

I'm getting fed up with your utter BS. Genuinely it is complete uneducated, can't see the wood for the trees anti English BS. We fundamentally do not have less cases and deaths than elsewhere in the UK, even the UK for most of this pandemic. Don't forget we escaped lightly from the Kent Variant. That shopkeeper thought she could open on Monday because that was what was tentatively being reported, you fell for it to and she is only now finding out otherwise. She should have known that a long time ago. She could have bought stock and arranged staff to come off furlough. How is she and her fellow business owners supposed to plan to open and subsequently pay your pension based on this nonsensical planning? [Post edited 12 Mar 2021 11:49]

We see perfect examples of narrow valley minded thinging here. What happens in these valleys is none existent on the grand scheme of things that is Great Britain. Wales too is pretty irrelevant to those east of the Dyke -no sexual refence there - People in these valley needs to get out and join the rest of us and try to ensure this great country improves and moves forward.Forward being the word. This debate is now Wales v England it's shaming. I'm surprised the Indy's have drawn ROI into matters seeing they are their freedom fighting heroes. Death is Death and it s not really a subject to brag about

You may be right. Would Drakeford have stopped international travel? He didn't close Wales' only international airport after all, he had the power. Would he have sourced the vaccines as effectively, maybe, who knows. Bojo being a complete waste of space doesn't mean Drakeford is any good though, less bad maybe.
