| May 6th - Senedd Elections on 20:19 - Apr 3 by exhmrc1 | This isnt about Indy it is about fact. Roughly 3 times the number of people live in East Wales as west. Fairly obvious where most things will end up. Bit like your adopted country most things head to London and Republic of Ireland to Dublin. |
Oh come on, don't make things up, the offical stats say the SE has less than 1.4 million as against just over 700k in the SW so it's not even twice as many. I pointed out Bristol so you coiuld understand putting the MTu in Swansea would actually provide the most people with good geographical coverage. As it stands the SE has fantastic coverage but the SW is left to rot again. PS, that new cardiac unit (I know it wasn't you taxman) we had to fight to keep that, they wanted to move it AND the burns unit to Cardiff.

| May 6th - Senedd Elections on 20:26 - Apr 3 by exhmrc1 | Why is it that the UK, Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh governments use the same system and that system shows the number of deaths in Wales very similar to the excess deaths in Wales. That includes the pandemic. It you have say 100 deaths last year and have 120 this year you have 20 more. Simple really despite your efforts to discredit it. The figures for this year show a slightly larger increase than the PHW figures but absolutely nowhere near your figures. I will always trust a positive test over a suspected test. At least that way you actually know someone had it. You prefer to accept myth rather than fact. |
Well lets ignore that governments spin figures so they don't look so bad and point out that the excess death figures will be different this year. Fewer people have died from other respiratory problems, fewer people will have died because of RTA incidents, alcohol related offences, across the board there would have been fewer deaths but that only hides the true number of covid deaths. The problem will reveal itself in the next few years as more people die of medical problems that weren't diagnosed and/or treated during the pandemic. We'll see higher excess deaths across the board too.

The logical place for the MTu was always Swansea as more people in Wales would have easy access to one. But when have the senedd ever made a decision to benefit the whole of Wales rather than Cardiff. Latest polls show labour are losing support with Conservatives, Plaid and abolish gaining support. Even Drakeford is behind in his own seat. Perhaps changes in the Senedd at last.

"Perhaps changes in the Senedd at last." Travelling through the Welsh valleys last week there were a lot of "Senedd time for change" posters in the windows. Not what you would normally expect in these areas.

| May 6th - Senedd Elections on 16:29 - Apr 3 by exhmrc1 | Lets take paragraph 2 the Welsh Nhs did. Most of the population is in South East Wales and more people can get to it easier. Why not put it in Newtown. Not many people living there but probably more accessible for all of Wales. Your antI Cardiff bias like many on here doesnt fit with the facts. Look at the size of the population around Cardiff and compare it with Swansea. There is hardly any population west and North of Swansea.. RCT in itself has a similar population to Swansea and that is not taking into account Cardiff, Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Vale of Glamorgan. As I say if you want it to be placed for geographical reasons it should be in Newport. If it based on the population base it goes to Cardiff. Whilst on the subject why are the English units in the South West in and Plymouth. It takes longer to go from Falmouth, Truro and Penzance than it does for you to travel to Cardiff. They are put where they are to cover the maximum number of population within the shortest of time. Exactly why the Welsh NHS decided on Cardiff. [Post edited 3 Apr 2021 16:41]

A letter I sent to the EP some time ago: ********************************* The panel set up by the Assembly to decide on where the Welsh Major Trauma Centre should be sited is, apparently, recommending it should be sited in Cardiff. This following on from the disgraceful decision to centralise neurosurgery in Cardiff a few years ago. If this does happen it will be yet another shameful decision by this Cardiff centric Labour government. And even more shameful is the fact that i’ve heard precisely nothing from the Labour AM’s elected to represent South West Wales in the Assembly. As usual, I imagine, they’ll just put their hands up and vote for it as and when instructed. The pro Swansea arguments are very similar to the ones for neurosurgery 1 Far more people living outside the crucial recommended treatment window if it goes to Cardiff. 2 Far superior access to Morriston when you actually get to the motorway junction. 3 The fact that the two Bristol MTC’s will be just 20 miles away if you live in South East Wales. If the pro Cardiff decision goes ahead this will be a political decision. And who are these people tasked with making this recommendation and how competent are they ? When the neurosurgery commission presented their conclusions one of the comments made was ‘we do not believe either site has a significant advantage in terms of helicopter access’. This comment made at a time when helicopters did not have 24 hour access to the Heath because of local by-laws. And, from memory, they didn’t even have an actual helipad either, that minor problem rectified VERY quickly when the decision was made. If they do find in favour of Cardiff they’ll be putting at risk the lives of many people in South West Wales who are unfortunate enough to have a serious accident. Shame on them if they do. ****************************** You're comment about Cardiff making sense because more people can get to it easier echoes the same comment made by Rhodri Morgan some years ago. So i'll ask you the question i'd have liked to ask him. Instead of siting it where most people can get to it easier why is it not sited where most patients can get to it easier ? When the neuro decision was made more patients were already being treated at Morriston than the Heath because there were more neuro patients needing treatment coming from West Wales because of the rural nature of the environment - farm accidents, motor/bike accidents on winding country roads etc. I don't know the actual numbers of MTU patients although i'd imagine the same argument would apply. But regardless of that the argument of better access for the majority still applies when you consider the Bristol MTU's.

Of course you can . It is called democracy something the Irish sadly have no concept of . People in Wales can vote for whatever party they like to undo the 20 years of poverty and damage labour has inflicted on it's citizens.

Utter nonsense, it's up there with saying you can;t be Welsh if you choose an irish username and put a picture of Maradona as your avatar. Wales being a democracy, Welsh residents can vote for whoever they like and not be dictated to by the likes of you. Try this one, you can't believe in Welsh independence and want to join the EU.

I worked in the Abbey too. When Scargill said he wanted all the pits to stay open for "us boys and girls" I though, why in 1984 are we sending people down holes in the ground to work in darkness, filth and danger. Labour closed many and rightly so and Tories should have closed them sooner. Problem was and Thatcher's biggest failing was her not regenerating areas earlier and more fully. Jobs and government /civil service departments should have been moved away from London to aras hit by closures. south Wales has not even now recovered and the bitterness passed down to support Labour . And finally,I recall Michael Foot and the closing of Ebbw Vale steelworks-that's wasn't pretty either. Scargill was a thug who terrorised thousands.Ask anyone in Notts and Derbyshire about his peaceful picketing by his troops. He was all about power and nothing else.
