You are right the Russians killed more of their own people than the Germans ever did. Stalin purged the entire army before the WWII getting rid of all officers over the rank of major, which was why German invasion ls was so successful at first.

I think what the Russians did in revenge was just as bad. Western historians reckon 3 million Germans were taken POW by Russia with up to ONE MILLION dying in captivity. Thats not even going near the rape and murder of civilians as the Red Army rolled towards Berlin.

For sheer brutality I think the Russians matched them and as I have already pointed out, the Soviets had already been committing atrocities in Poland before Germany turned on their supposed Allies.
