There has been a lot of talk about Woodman leaving Newcastle because of his desire to play first-team football, however he and his dad Andy have made it public knowledge that the 24-year old’s dream is to be the Magpies’ number one.
By Rob Lee, ex Newcastle, this is a quote from yesterday.
“At this moment he is not better than Dubravka and he’s also not better than Karl Darlow, but he is potentially very good. He’s not better than those two at the moment, so why would you make him your number one?”
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

He’s far from perfect, but he’s better than the two we had under Potter.
Hamer is a 33 year old journeyman you’ve never seen play. It’s bizarre that you keep championing him.
We aren’t in the Premier league anymore. We’d do very well to sign a Vorm or a Fabianski.
I’m not a big stats person, but a clean sheet in either of the final two games and he’s got the golden gloves. Despite what you may think, you don’t get that without both a decent keeper and a solid defence.
Extremely unusual to find myself disagreeing with 247 - but he is, at the very, very best, National League standard. I have played alongside at least two amateur goalkeepers who were of a higher standard than Woodman. Hides in his six yard box, looks to be permanently frightened of getting hurt, his distribution is a joke, he appears to be very slow thinking, however has done extremely well to draw a wage over the last two years. We need so much better next season

Its bizarre to agree with you nanty but you said it all.
Woody might be a nice pero=on but on the field,he lacks courage-clearly and hi defenders have to cover for his cowardice.Perfect example yesterday letting that ball drift over for a corner from which they have done us.He has made shocking mistakes this season and last .A few good saves do not compensate. Those that offer "support" on here do so as they think to criticise any player is wrong. With no crowds he has gotten away with murder frankly. Hamer must be really bad not to be selected but now s the time Steve.

For balance, I used to hammer Montero on here when some people thought he was the business.
It’s easy to see the customary mistake each game and forget everything he does well. No one is giving Bidwell any grief for the first goal yesterday. He’s been tricked/bullied out of position and given the guy a free header. No one wants to lynch him though.
Now is absolutely not the time to parachute Hamer in, unless you mean for the next two games with a view to playing Woodman in the playoffs unless Hamer does something incredible. He was signed as third choice.

Watching Woodman when an attacker is running at him one-on-one has brought us some of the most hilarious moments I've ever experienced when watching Swansea City.
Sometimes he'll retreat back quite literally behind his own goal line and not attempt to save the ball. Sometimes he just stands stationary, not adjusting his position and watches the ball go past him. Sometimes he'll watch the ball go past him and then dive once it has hit the back of the net.
Meanwhile every competent goalkeeper, from the Premier League down to League 2, runs out, narrows down the angle and throws themselves at the opponent's feet in such a situation. He is afraid of doing that. Perhaps he was injured doing so at a younger age.
This isn't an opinion exclusive to me - I can recall reading numerous comments laughing at his actions on the opponent's fan forums ridiculing him for the above.
The Raheem Sterling goal is perhaps the most well known example, however I prefer his effort against Middlesbrough.

I disagree matey. This Woodman thing has gone on too long.He is leaving soon unless we have a total brain fart.
Montero could be brilliant but flaky. He could win a game.Woody loses games.

Yeah, I don’t see him being here next season.
Montero would get kicked twice and he’d hide for the rest of the game. He missed more games than he played. He did have a stormer against Arsenal though. If you’re going to accuse Woodman of cowardice, at least apply it equally.
Happy to have a friendly bet we concede more next season than we have done this time round?

That's not going to be difficult, our team will be decimated..
I will also do similar with achieving less points next season if we have a new manager... and any Championship season after that for the next decade

And we’re likely to have an inferior goalkeeper.
I could have done it retrospectively and stated we’ve conceded less this season, with Woodman playing every game, than any Championship season in our history. The promotion season with Williams, Monk, Rangel, Tate in their prime with Britton and Allen shielding them.
Only one less than the Sousa season so that could well change over the remaining two games, but the point remains.
I’m not going to argue Steve Coopers points total. We aren’t always great to watch and we’ve let a massive opportunity slide, but no one can sensibly argue with two playoffs in two seasons.

Average championship goalkeeper for me. Too flaky and erratic to play higher. May develop further, but precious little evidence that he has. Unfair to pick out those videos (although they did make me cringe...if it were someone else's keeper I would have laughed) and not have some videos of where he has gained us points (and he has).
All in all I'd like someone better, but we probably don't have the pulling power. I remember Hamer being very ordinary for previous clubs and we saw what Mulder could do in last year's play off second leg....and Nordy before that.
Benda maybe should have been given a full go, so we can see what he's got. Woody has been part of what has got us this far though, so who knows.

Good & balanced assessment Mon, reality is at our level you either strike lucky with a youngster who progresses & develops with you - if so likely to get nicked by a top 10/12 Prem level club for their academy or bench - you go with an older more experienced keeper for has flaws but also proven quality or you loan one of the fringe 3rd/4th keepers from the league above you.
We currently have 1 of each with Benda, Hamer & Woodman - for me next season it’s time for Woodman to return to Newcastle & for us to go with one of the other two plus promoting one of our youngsters as our first team squad 3rd choice & use the freed up loan space elsewhere.

He's still young in goalkeeper terms. Still ample room for him to develop. My problem with him has always been that we've already got a young, talented keeper of our own on the books yet we chose to use a loan slot to develop someone else's. Cooper wanting one of his u17's boys again instead of considering other options.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It’s Dwight mun, he used to slag Fabianski off. It would be easy enough to find a clip of Woodman saving penalties and tipping drives around the post.
Average championship goalie is about right for me too. Seeing as we haven’t had one of those since DeVries, I think the criticism he gets on here from the odd one or two is a bit entitled and OTT.

Fab was at times flaky but improved and dwight had every right to express his opinion.Fab s career didnt suffer. De Vries was another overated keeper,as was Vorm.
A s trong controlling keeper would have seen us promoted already
I think Woodman is instructed by the coachig team to stay on his line and in the 6 yard box. This serves as a very clear demarcation of responsibility. Centre backs have to deal with all free balls outside the 6 yard box. You wil be hard pudhed to indentify any "mix up" goals with Centre back and goalkeeper abusing each other in pained bewilderment.
This iswhere the cowardice accusation comes from. Woodman does not rush out because he is istructed not to interfere in Centre back business.

Oh come on. You know what Dwight is and how he gets his kicks. He’d have found fault with Neuer.
Your last sentence is what I mean by entitled. We’re a Championship club with a modest budget. We aren’t going to sign a perfect keeper.
At least Woodman can take comfort in the fact you didn’t rate any of his predecessors either. Who was the last goalie we had that you thought was decent?

I didn't "slag" Fabianski off. I criticised him when he was going through that extremely poor run of form where he was conceding soft goals every other game and costing us a lot of points.
Woodman is not an average Championship goalkeeper. An average Championship goalkeeper would have seen us concede far fewer goals.
He's very good at saving penalties. He's good at saving shots from inside the box at close range. He's poor to woeful at pretty much everything else. So many of his conceded goals make the viewer cringe, whether it is his failure to dive or his refusal to attempt to save any shot that has been marginally deflected and trickling toward his goal.

I can't find any example of me using "Flappy hand ski" or any similar phrase when searching back and I don't recall ever using that either. I do remember many others using it and I believe it originated after his terrible time at Arsenal.

I didn’t suggest you invented the nickname.
You’ve probably slagged of 95% of our players over the years. I very much doubt there has been a single keeper you haven’t slated. You just enjoy the reaction it gets.
Would be fine if the likes of OHL realised you were just looking for kicks. Poor guy thinks you’re a genuine poster

You claimed I used it for a sustained period of time. I don't recall using that phrase once.
I've probably criticised 95% of our players in some form - yes. Find me a football supporter who doesn't criticise their players' performance, attitude, skill or effort at some point.
There's a difference between "slagging" someone and criticising them objectively. I've backed up my criticisms of Woodman with videos highlighting my points. Schools need to do more to promote critical thinking as it's quite clear an entire generation has grown up not being able to distinguish between criticism and abuse..
