| Mr Drakeford on 08:43 - Jul 9 by felixstowe_jack | A planning application for social housing has been turned down by Snowdonia national parks authority is what I said. Glad you agree. |
You said “The matter had been passed to the ministers in tye senedd yo decide” which is wrong, the matter has never been passed to ministers in the senedd to decide, it’s a lad of hull. An appeal has been made regarding the decision made by the Snowdonia National Park Authority and it will be heard by the planning inspectorate who are independent of the WG.

As I said planning application turned down going to appeal. On another matter gwynedd Councillors have backed a charge for people climbing Snowden. Snowdon national parks authority are opposing this as they state Snowdon has an open access agreement which cannot be changed.

Mr Drakeford has now said anyone applying for a Welsh government job must be able to speak basic Welsh. As 81% of the Welsh population are English only speaking this means 81% of the population are banned from applying. The only criteria should be who is best for the job. Only being able to select from 19% of the population means the quality of candidates will be a lot lower. This is clearly discriminatory. Was this new policy contained in the Labour party's manifesto for the senedd elections? Second class citizens in our own country clearly a cultural apartheid.

It will take years, but the sooner Welsh people speak Welsh the better. We are not England. Speak English yes, but Welsh too. A lot of anti Welsh stuff goes on this site. Shameful.

Under the Equality Act, there are nine protected characteristics: age. disability. gender reassignment. marriage and civil partnership. pregnancy and maternity. race. religion or belief. sex How you can be discriminated against Discrimination can come in one of the following forms: direct discrimination - treating someone with a protected characteristic less favourably than others indirect discrimination - putting rules or arrangements in place that apply to everyone, but that put someone with a protected characteristic at an unfair disadvantage harassment - unwanted behaviour linked to a protected characteristic that violates someone’s dignity or creates an offensive environment for them victimisation - treating someone unfairly because they’ve complained about discrimination or harassment

If people want to learn Welsh they are free to. Most people in Wales don't speak it and don't want to though. face the facts, a lot of young Welsh people are leaving Wales, there's the brain drain so called, there's the poor economic future and they think they are best served by moving elsewhere, often to England. Then in turn we are getting a lot of English retirees coming here who don't and won't speak Welsh. If they really want more people speaking Welsh they should worry about the economy first. There's not much point in pushing Welsh on our kids if they end up moving to England and it dies out anyway because of English immigration.

I do not have an issue with people learning Welsh, my grandchildren are in Welsh schools. I do have an issue where the best people are not necessary employed by the Welsh Government because they do not speak Welsh. How can Wales be at the forefront and progress when they have outdated thinking.

I'm not saying don't learn Welsh, I'm saying it should be a choice. I'm not really very happy that the Welsh government is going down the road of making these decisions for us. They are there to serve us not to instruct us in what should do. I've said it before, my son doesn't like Welsh (I think he can't stand his teacher to be honest) but he says he wants to learn Spanish, it's his life it should be his choice. I have to say though, the Senedd aren't refusing jobs to non Welsh speakers, they are saying you will be expected to learn and they are offering the training to a suitable standard.

You aren't Cat but it' not good enough for the likes of Kenny, who I had no idea spoke Welsh. He spoke English to me as he does to fireboy who doesn't speak English but they are still lovers. Weird innit. It is the case Builth and the rest demonise anyone who is not right on with Welsh learning-being forced upon kids a it is. It is compulsory so that means no escape. For the vast majority ,a complete waste of time and effort. It's definately an advantage though when slagging off the English as they pay for hotels, guest houses, restaurant meals, cafes, campsite fees -all behind their backs ,obviously. Take the money-En glish money first, then call them filth. TWO FACED OR WHAT.

I wonder if they will insists all senedd members must speak Welsh ? Will the same apply to all councillors in Wales? It is bad enough when you phone a Welsh government helpline or service. You are paying for the call and have to listen to 30 seconds of Welsh before you get any English options. Why not a simple 5 second Welsh message for Welsh press 1 and then English message for English press 2.

Shouldn't language be irrelevant with competency being preferable. What about those immigrants who are now councillors and dont speak Welsh having learned English to be able to fully take part in British public life. It is naked language fascism and it is damning. Harsh and hard to swallow but truth often is. My God,do we need some honesty .

This. I am a fluent Welsh speaker and use it regularly in the course of my work, non welsh speakers who work with me are expected to acquire a Level 1 basic standard of Welsh within 6 months after joining. It’s really simple stuff like saying hello, or good morning and it’s no different to what most of us do when we go to Spain or France when we say hola, or bonjour to the locals. Most of the people I know can even order of beef in French or Spanish FFS.

But when/if I go to Spain or France I am going to a foreign country, when I am in the Uk I am not. This is the source of the problem, I consider myself as much British as Welsh. When I'm abroad, if anyone calls me English I do correct it but usually by saying I'm not English, I'm Welsh and British. We get all strung up on this with just two languages, how do the Indians manage, they have 22!

Not to defend it but it shouldn't take 6 months to learn what they are saying you'll have to learn. I didn't do Welsh in school, at all. I was in a higher stream and had to do Latin but my gran was a fluent Welsh speaker and though I have hardly ever used it I have the entry level skill they want. Bore Da, Prynhawn Da, Diolch, Diolch yn fawr, Croeso, Nos da and surely we nearly all know Shw mae, Dai iawn/Dai iawn diolch too? My real issue is, we have interpreters for minority languages, if people want to communicate in Welsh we should just be able to request it. Why have every letter bilingually, why should phone messages take 3 times as long, why do we have to listen to everything in Englsih AND Welsh. My GP surgery has it right, the first message is simple, to speak in Welsh press 1, in English press 2. That is all we need and then the Senedd can have Welsh speakers purely in psts where they are essential. They can then offer Welsh tuition to any who want it, without it being compulsory. I said it earlier, the more young welsh that move away and the more retirees from England or elsewhere that move here, the more this language policy will be a waste of time. They need to get the economy sorted first so our young people don't abandon Wales.

Ethiopia has five official languages and as many as 80 spoken in total. Also Gueze which is used by the Orthodox Church like Latin by Roman Catholics.
