Thus far the vaccines appear to be remaining effective against it anyway.
We really need to be ramping up the pressure on people to get vaccinated or restrict what those who haven't been for any reason other than medical to spread it. If that means vaccine passports to get into pubs or shops then so be it.
Refusing to be vaccinated for Covid (or anything tbh) needs to be made as socially unacceptable as drink driving. |

The evidence, leaked to the Observer, certainly suggests the 'Indian' variant is a problem. I certainly support vaccination for over 12s-the incidence of disease in younger people with both the Kent and Indian variants is greater and currently about 1 in 10 kids infected are developing Long. Covid symptoms.
Whilst the news that the vaccines are still effective is great, this should be tempered that there is a reduced efficacy and that certainly both doses of the AZ are needed for good protection.

It's actually not too dissimilar to the compulsory wearing of helmets on motor bikes where people were told wearing a lid saves your life and quitting smoking will help to avoid lung cancer.Or even being told drinking a few beers doesnt affect your driving .

Wasn’t aware of the issue Data on school transmission being withheld, but it doesn’t surprise me and I suspect schools are a major issue. There was a report in Walesonline about a Cardiff school having 28 cases of covid and having to close, the area affected has the highest rate of Covid in Wales.

It was briefly online but 'disappeared'. The PHE technical report was also very late (over 2 days) and released at 10:30pm on Saturday night-it contains the vaccine efficacy data which had been 'spun out' as good news for Sunday's front pages. The reality is nowhere near as rosy. Although these are still very effective vaccines, the second dose of AZ is really needed-at least this has been stepped up so the realisation is there. Number 10 is incredibly adverse to bad news or criticism. I expect a kicking from Cummins this week. They really should be truthful here. A step back in schools or a few more weeks to ending restrictions would be sensible now. Without that fear another winter wave, albeit smaller and less deadly, but enough to cause far more disruption than a few weeks longer. | | | |
