Uncertainty will also continue throughout the month right up to the eve of the new season fixtures. However this week the decisions to be made are all surrounding Steve Cooper, will it be Fulham, will it be Palace, will it be chips or jacket spuds, we’ll have to wait and see. 1 Cooper latest above Click here to subscribe to us on Twitter

| The week ‘ Cooper must go’ to everyone’s benefit on 09:15 - Jun 29 by Dr_Parnassus | Not quite as easy as that, because again having a manager stay is one thing, having a manager stay that is willingly committed with a good working relationship is another. Fulham will also know this. We will have to balance between what is good for the club both financially and otherwise. I can see us reluctantly moving from the current buy out as its a pretty wild figure and settling for no less than a multi million deal. |
Which is also a factor in whether the club want to keep him or not. Whether we think he can reach playoffs again Style of football Potential replacements and their cost Compensation Coopers attitude if he stays Uncertainty from players point of view Will all be taken into account. With that factored in, I believe the club are happy for him to go and aren’t putting many obstacles in his way.

Bottom line - if we are looking at brining in some good quality players like McCann, the Turkish striker and others we don’t want them straightjacketted by Cooper. Plus we need the compo to get them !

I don't think the club will be aiming for (or expecting rather) play-offs again, I don't think anyone can achieve that if the same level of spending is maintained that Cooper had to endure. Not even Cooper himself. Cooper himself has great value to the club, his stock is high, there are bigger clubs than us wanting him. So even a semi disillusioned Cooper will be more desirable to the club than giving him away for next to nothing like Fulham did with Parker. So for me, its either he stays put and Fulham have to go for Wilder... or they will be forced to pay millions. What won't happen is us bending over backwards to give him away ala Parker. If that happens then I will of course agree it looks like they wanted him gone. [Post edited 29 Jun 2021 10:42]

Any source? That sounds very low. One thing if he’d lost the dressing room or was hated by the fans. Even if they had a top replacement lined up. To replace with Wilder, or to pay out substantially more than that to replace with Cooper doesn’t seem right. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Shouldn't it be whether we can win the playoffs? Reaching the play offs and surrendering as Cooper has done for two years is utterly pointless. All he did was cost some of us an extra 65 quid to watch an embarrassment.

He would only be tagged in such a way by dishonest posters trying to paint a false picture of reality for their own anti-manager agendas. I hope he stays, just for the comedy factor and meltdowns more than anything. |
. You're right. What on earth is it with some of the shouty, unintelligent yobs with their constant trolling. Some of them aren't fans, clearly. Cooper is our prized asset. Our owners know this, and most of our fans know this. Which is why he needs to stay. And agree, it would be hilarious to witness the meltdown on here by some of our beauts should he choose to stay, but most importantly we would be best placed to kick on to achieve our owners' objectives. The lack of alternatives is telling. There aren't many reputable managers out there willing to risk their careers trying to emulate one of our most successful managers, ever. .

You are right, it is low, and for all the reasons you stated. But that’s because it actually saved them money by not sacking him. The responses I’ve seen so far (including on that tweet) is they they would have happily given him away for free so 250k is amazing. [Post edited 29 Jun 2021 22:00]

It sounds like when Sousa left Swansea. From what I recall he had already burnt bridges for not showing for pre season training. Swansea still a manged to get full compensation for Sousa from what I remember. Most manager have a contractual opt out cluse if a Premier league wants them. Not so sure if it is another Championship team. Swansea with Cooper in charge with Joseph, Piroe and Henry would have significant extra firepower. WIth in house prsopects Benda, Garrick and Brandon Cooper stepping up and perhaps 2-3 more elite loans in midfield like Gilmour / Skipp / Garner /Levitt he may be able to produce more exciting winning football.

Spot on, I made that comparison earlier funnily enough. It’s exactly the same situation. We wanted rid of him, couldn’t believe our luck that someone actually wanted him and made it happen as quickly and as manageable for all parties as possible. It doesn’t sound like he was very well liked in the board room and it was the beginning of the end when they publicly called him out after the season finished. I have read their fans say they thought that the owners were trying to make his situation untenable so he would walk and wouldn’t have to pay him severance pay. Which is essentially what has happened.

Fair enough, similar in some ways to us then. He’s obviously had his head turned and didn’t want to be there. Last thing they would have wanted would be a disinterested manager leading their promotion charge. They’ve taken a low payment to avoid paying him off and ensure a clean break. As you say, both situations comparable with Sousa. Don’t get me wrong, I want as much compensation as we can get, but haggling too hard and letting Wilder in would be a disaster. Cooper presumably costing a lot less in severance pay could be a factor.

Well it’s easy to not want to be somewhere after such a public dressing down where his job is clearly on the line. As I said, it looks like he jumped before he was pushed and the 250k looks like that may be the case. Of course, more compensation the better for us, but nobody will pay 3.5m in the championship. So we now assess the situation and judge if he is still willing to commit to us, if he is then we can continue to hold firm. If he’s not then we can negotiate and reach a realistic but still very high amount, akin to the Martinez settlement. But what won’t be happening is us giving him away like they did with Parker. That’s the difference in the situations. One was clearly not wanted by their club after being relegated, the other clearly is after back to back play off finishes - that will be evident in the difference in the payments to both clubs. Well it’s not often you get the opportunity to shell out the 65 quid as only a select few have managed the feat. Maybe Potter can come back to secure a mid table position and save you some money? Maybe we can ask? [Post edited 30 Jun 2021 14:37]

| The week ‘ Cooper must go’ to everyone’s benefit on 14:33 - Jun 30 with 707 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I think Cooperball and Southgate ball is sucessful but boring. It will ultimately be found out by more sophisticated and less mechanical sides with players that are more instinctive and imaginative. Teams that have both technique and heart and lacking the arrogance of France and Germany. Wales and Swansea fell meakly under the Danish broadsword. They only had to do what they do and the win landed in their plate. Page over estimated his teams slkills and got clobered as his midfield goyt dizzy chasing the ball. Wales own midfild was passing almost uniquely into 50 :50 challenges. Cooper recognised his teams limitations and shook hands with Frank when there was notionally still time for a Ayew hattrick. | |

But 'whether we think we can get to the play offs' is forecasting a whole season. I'd rather we forecast 3 matches beyond based on available evidence. He spawned the first playoffs (we were done before Forest did a once in a lifetime thing) and bottled both sets. We'll still be in the championship with him. Something else we should forecast is when we have to sack him because even lee Bowyer can work him out, and that's a low bar.
