Swansea City v Sheffield United : AFTERMATH Matchday Thread 21/22 15:45 - Aug 11 with 17188 viewsNotLoyal

It’s a magnificent return for Oliver Robert McBurnie to his home city of Swansea, the team he loves and adores, the best thing that ever happened to him. He loves the swans ! So boo him at every turn, don’t applaud this oaf for ninety minutes he is the enemy, then say “Hi mate, you loves the swans mush “

Saturday 14th August 2021
Swansea City v Sheffield United
The newly named stadium
Kick Off 8pm

LIVE a on SKY and on Swans TV if you like a dark market.

Officials
Keith Stroud will be the referee for Swansea City’s Championship fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday. Stroud has taken charge of the Swans on eight occasions across the past two seasons. He will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Sam Lewis, while Sam Allison will be the fourth official. Keith still collects small beach pebbles from the beach at Forest Green. Sometimes he throws them at his neighbours cats, who throw them back at him. Apparently.

Player to watch - Tommy Butler

Tommy Butler, the very name strikes fear in to the hearts of blades fans. The mercurial attacker / non attacker, with silky smooth gravy making skills and a little bit of Irish wit is the player to watch on Saturday night. It is expected he will start the game or maybe even not start the game dependent if he has been round Joel Piroe’s house or not. Although Russell Martin “Doesn't know Tommy” he has heard of him as he left a plastic turd in his office last Monday morning. Many swans fans will be looking forward to seeing Tommy again, especially if he brings his plastic dancing bear and veterinary anal infiltrator.

What is a McBurnie
McBurnie means “Div” in Gaelic. And when you search on the term it explains “ Becomes a div after consumption of the devils drink” Oliver has made the headlines a few times since he left the swans, buying people beer, making gestures towards the tramps in Cardiff, booting members of the public about and driving whilst slaughtered, he has done a great job in keeping up his PR profile. A lot of people who like Olly do so not because he is a nice guy, which we all know he is, but because he played for Swansea City. Weird eh ? He is also a lovely generous chap. Just drink water mate.

Russell Martin’s biggest test as a manager is here : Today ! 14th Aug 2021 09:39
The day is here for Russell Martin, due to obscure regulations on crowds at sporting events in Wales he won’t feel the full atmosphere of a packed Swansea City stadium, but his biggest football management day to date is here. 0

Russell Martin : Those brilliant moments are not far away 15th Aug 2021 09:00
Swansea City drew at home to Sheffield United in a goalless draw at the Swansea.Com stadium in front on the SKY Sports TV cameras last night. 16,000 was the capped capacity for the game and they watched a solid performance from the swans. 0

Paterson is the only player who tries to beat a man, not just stop and pass it sideways. Desperately need some penetration. Playing some nice stuff at times but it looks a bit lacking in intent.
On the positive side, apart from one brainfart by Benda we look secure and composed and passing accuracy is good. Just need more oomph up front.

Cabango is not a full back but is being asked to play as one … accommodating Cooper maybe.
Benda … loves it. Best since Tony Millington.

Lati will drop out on the right

Cant see us playing Bidwell and Manning, more likely Lati and Laird but who knows. The problem is slipping the lines and Cullen amd Lowe not holding up. See a change quickly in second half. By the way Cooper looks better than Bennet already faster and not afraid to get in.

.

No Zip, all a bit tedious.

Cooper at the back and JP with some go-fwd adventure the main positives.

Cabango a liability in this system, can't see him surviving Martin's way.

Sheffield all all over the shop, luckily for us. Wilder's tactics would have destroyed us.

Our ball control still letting us down around theiri penalty area.
A yellow for Grimes and nothing for McGoldrick's high foot.

Woodman would have stayed on his line. That's not an exaggeration.

Benda is looking like an exceptionally talented young goalkeeper.

Good point that.

Still work in progress but encouraging signs. Goals will be an issue I think, that costs money though as we saw with £3.5m per year Andre Ayew.

Didnt Gerhard Tremmel who was scouting for the Swans in Germany at the t8me recommend him?

Booooooo! Bring back CooperBall! If I'm going to be bored stiff, I at least want us to win...

In all seriousness, plenty of positives there, and plenty to work on too. Very impressed sith Manning and Lati. Nice to see us knocking the ball around with confidence again, even if we were mostly blunt, and good to get a point on the board against one of the strongest squads in the league.

Onwards and upwards.

Lati got better and better. Downes and Paterson look good players Benda will have me on the Valium and Manning had his best game for us. Ben looks off the pace with Lowe also struggling. Cullen also looked out of position, but hey a point against them will do me until we have time to settle.

Despite a few wtf moments in the early part of the game, Benda impressed me tonight.

Glad Capt Caveman aka McBurney didn't do what I was half expecting.

All in all, a work in progress but with some definite sparks of potential.
