Swansea City v Sheffield United : AFTERMATH Matchday Thread 21/22 15:45 - Aug 11 with 17180 viewsNotLoyal

It’s a magnificent return for Oliver Robert McBurnie to his home city of Swansea, the team he loves and adores, the best thing that ever happened to him. He loves the swans ! So boo him at every turn, don’t applaud this oaf for ninety minutes he is the enemy, then say “Hi mate, you loves the swans mush “

Saturday 14th August 2021
Swansea City v Sheffield United
The newly named stadium
Kick Off 8pm

LIVE a on SKY and on Swans TV if you like a dark market.

Officials
Keith Stroud will be the referee for Swansea City’s Championship fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday. Stroud has taken charge of the Swans on eight occasions across the past two seasons. He will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Sam Lewis, while Sam Allison will be the fourth official. Keith still collects small beach pebbles from the beach at Forest Green. Sometimes he throws them at his neighbours cats, who throw them back at him. Apparently.

Player to watch - Tommy Butler

Tommy Butler, the very name strikes fear in to the hearts of blades fans. The mercurial attacker / non attacker, with silky smooth gravy making skills and a little bit of Irish wit is the player to watch on Saturday night. It is expected he will start the game or maybe even not start the game dependent if he has been round Joel Piroe’s house or not. Although Russell Martin “Doesn't know Tommy” he has heard of him as he left a plastic turd in his office last Monday morning. Many swans fans will be looking forward to seeing Tommy again, especially if he brings his plastic dancing bear and veterinary anal infiltrator.

What is a McBurnie
McBurnie means “Div” in Gaelic. And when you search on the term it explains “ Becomes a div after consumption of the devils drink” Oliver has made the headlines a few times since he left the swans, buying people beer, making gestures towards the tramps in Cardiff, booting members of the public about and driving whilst slaughtered, he has done a great job in keeping up his PR profile. A lot of people who like Olly do so not because he is a nice guy, which we all know he is, but because he played for Swansea City. Weird eh ? He is also a lovely generous chap. Just drink water mate.

Russell Martin’s biggest test as a manager is here : Today ! 14th Aug 2021 09:39
The day is here for Russell Martin, due to obscure regulations on crowds at sporting events in Wales he won’t feel the full atmosphere of a packed Swansea City stadium, but his biggest football management day to date is here. 0

Russell Martin : Those brilliant moments are not far away 15th Aug 2021 09:00
Swansea City drew at home to Sheffield United in a goalless draw at the Swansea.Com stadium in front on the SKY Sports TV cameras last night. 16,000 was the capped capacity for the game and they watched a solid performance from the swans. 0

Lati and Manning wing backs.
Bidwell in at left centre half.
Naughton and Bennett both have slight knocks.
Bench looks quite weak.

Big test tonight but a bigger one in the next 2 weeks strengthening the squad, tonight won't define our season as much as the next 2 weeks.

Let's see how it goes tonight.

That's a decent, young side.
Noone can say he's not giving our young players a chance now, Shirley.

He has been forced into it I suppose. Cullen needs to show something today the ball can’t be coming back at us constantly.

Naughton and Ryan Bennett are absent having picked up minor knocks, while Korey Smith and Liam Walsh also miss out through injury.

Ah right, that explains it.
Fingers crossed for Lati tonight. I worry for him more than the young Cooper tbh.

Ah ok. Makes me feel better with Lati out wide ha. He seemed to play well there midweek. Not ideal with Bidwell CB either, but time will tell. As you say, this match won't define anything. A win would be lovely, but progression the most important thing.

I wouldn't say the bench is week. Mix of young and some good players there. Piro for one. Dhanda can make a difference off the bench. Williams showed he can do it now as well.

Yeah I suppose. I wasn't aware of the injuries at the time.
But he still sticking with Cullen. You're right, he will need to bang one in if he's going to keep this Piroe out of the team much longer. Very good way of building the competition here, if that's RM's game.

Bench looks fine except for being short of defenders due to all the knocks. Three recent signings plus Dhanda and Williams who were both excellent in midweek.

The fannying about with the ball between our defenders & keeper is certainly risky with Brewster & Oli up top.

.

Let's hope Martin isn't so foolish as to completely discard the best controlled defensive platform in this league.

He needs to build upon and enhance.

Big game for Cabango if Martin is to play with such maverick intent from so deep.

Talk sport stating no investment and RM in an impossible situation. Having a pop at American owners.

Huh? I don't see it like that. There has been investment this year, and RM seems happy with it so far.

I'd be hesitant to pass forward to Cullen and Lowe as well. Two players who are absolutely useless at holding the ball up. Hopefully we see Piroe soon.

Our ball control is a little suspect at times.
But quite a good first half.
How was that at least a Yellow card for the high foot?

Once again half time arrives with no clear chances having been created.

Bring Piroe on. Defo need someone leading the line. Cullen been very quiet.

The boys have done well though.
Considering our CB is a rookie. Left back in the other CB. Both have done well. Ben has been given a good battle with Brewster, which I think has been pretty even so far.
I can see Paterson being good for us when he's up to speed. Downes going to need time to bed in as well by the look of the first half.

No chances, but still a good game.
