Swansea City v Sheffield United : AFTERMATH Matchday Thread 21/22 15:45 - Aug 11 with 17177 viewsNotLoyal

It’s a magnificent return for Oliver Robert McBurnie to his home city of Swansea, the team he loves and adores, the best thing that ever happened to him. He loves the swans ! So boo him at every turn, don’t applaud this oaf for ninety minutes he is the enemy, then say “Hi mate, you loves the swans mush “

Saturday 14th August 2021
Swansea City v Sheffield United
The newly named stadium
Kick Off 8pm

LIVE a on SKY and on Swans TV if you like a dark market.

Officials
Keith Stroud will be the referee for Swansea City’s Championship fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday. Stroud has taken charge of the Swans on eight occasions across the past two seasons. He will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Sam Lewis, while Sam Allison will be the fourth official. Keith still collects small beach pebbles from the beach at Forest Green. Sometimes he throws them at his neighbours cats, who throw them back at him. Apparently.

Player to watch - Tommy Butler

Tommy Butler, the very name strikes fear in to the hearts of blades fans. The mercurial attacker / non attacker, with silky smooth gravy making skills and a little bit of Irish wit is the player to watch on Saturday night. It is expected he will start the game or maybe even not start the game dependent if he has been round Joel Piroe’s house or not. Although Russell Martin “Doesn't know Tommy” he has heard of him as he left a plastic turd in his office last Monday morning. Many swans fans will be looking forward to seeing Tommy again, especially if he brings his plastic dancing bear and veterinary anal infiltrator.

What is a McBurnie
McBurnie means “Div” in Gaelic. And when you search on the term it explains “ Becomes a div after consumption of the devils drink” Oliver has made the headlines a few times since he left the swans, buying people beer, making gestures towards the tramps in Cardiff, booting members of the public about and driving whilst slaughtered, he has done a great job in keeping up his PR profile. A lot of people who like Olly do so not because he is a nice guy, which we all know he is, but because he played for Swansea City. Weird eh ? He is also a lovely generous chap. Just drink water mate.

Russell Martin’s biggest test as a manager is here : Today ! 14th Aug 2021 09:39
The day is here for Russell Martin, due to obscure regulations on crowds at sporting events in Wales he won’t feel the full atmosphere of a packed Swansea City stadium, but his biggest football management day to date is here. 0

Russell Martin : Those brilliant moments are not far away 15th Aug 2021 09:00
Swansea City drew at home to Sheffield United in a goalless draw at the Swansea.Com stadium in front on the SKY Sports TV cameras last night. 16,000 was the capped capacity for the game and they watched a solid performance from the swans. 0

.

Disappointing in so many ways. Lucky to scramble a point.

So. We invest half a £1,000,000 in getting rid of a top 6, then 4 and a playoff final Manager for an unknown somebody delivering a turgid, bland, non-penetrative, defensively unstable brand. Bonkers.

Last time we played this lot of workhorses we smashed them, twice. A guaranteed 6-pointer, even with Wilder at the helm.

If anybody witnessed Winter's most recent presser they'd see he's lost the plot.

If I was an investor in the fund I would be voicing my concerns and disappointment.

Cooper has gone, try and get over it.

Coopers football football resulted in two wasted seasons as I don’t see how it has improved our players. This is a reset that would have been a lot better and more effective if it was building on Potters work rather rebuilding after Coopers.

Needs a focal point up front though.

Cullen for me is totally off the pace.

Impact sub, definitely not a starter at present.

Would happily have taken a point beforehand and still pleased with one now. We went toe to toe with a recent PL squad and didn't look out of place at all. They'll probably think they should have won but we had our chances too.

Signs of progress for us, although we've got to start moving the ball a bit quicker, especially if we want everything to go through Grimes as we seemed to at times. Don't think Cullen's got the skillset to sit behind a forward. He's tip of the spear or nothing for me.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Need more than a focal point up front. We need creativity and an injection of pace, plus much improved ball control in the ‘final third’. We’re toothless but I’m sure Martin will recognise that and do something about it. A good point, but I never celebrate a 0-0 especially at home. Some encouraging signs and I’m optimistic for our prospects, but we must start creating goal-scoring chances and taking them.

Cullen is not the answer either is Lowe as a centre forward we need a focus point a centre forward who can hold the ball and someone to play off..

Didnt Gerhard Tremmel who was scouting for the Swans in Germany at the t8me recommend him?

Yep.

Benda's got all the attributes he needs to be a top keeper. Just needs to work on having the ball at his feet. Most of that will come with experience, as he probably wasn't asked to get as involved at Swindon.

Manning was class, Cooper was good, Cabango looks dodgy. We did well considering for long stretches we couldn't play to the right side as Latibeaudiere was stood offside (even when we were in our own half) and Cullen might as well not have been playing (hes literally never had a good game out wide, for Swansea or Wales youth sides).

Paterson annoyed me with how much space he was getting into with the ball and turning down chances to try to create something. Eventually they reshuffled things to deny us that pocket on the left.

That chip on McBurnie's shoulder getting big enough to need its own shirt number.

Had a slightly iffy first 10-15 minutes but once he settled in he had some really classy moments. Liked the look of him.

Today was turgid, no spark whatsoever in midfield nor in the final third.

All well and good looking to dominate defensive possession (no change there)- but we seem to be totally inept and lacking of any real plan going forward.

Let's hope (ex defender) Martin now brings in his attacking coaching team - today was totally lacking. Which of course will require even further investment.

It's the very least we deserve for £1m + delta in coaching team investment.

Cabango wasn’t right from the start and should have been in the middle of a three especially as Latty played as a sing rather than wing back.
We dominated large parts of the game and Sheffield rarely posed a threat.
Little short of a miracle what The new coaching team gas achieved in such a short time.
Agree with the Cullen comment … maybe an impact sub?

Agree, not a bad performance after a couple of weeks for the new manager. We need some creativity, someone who can beat a man or pick a pass in the last third.

A lot of it has to do with the tempo we set. On numerous occasions we had the chance to make a quick counter but we weren't quite fast enough moving the ball. Old habits die hard and it'll take some time to get fully up to speed.

Don't think we quite got the balance right in the front three tonight. Piroe would probably have been a better option behind Lowe than Cullen. Walsh will be better still.

Thought piroe did ok at holding the ball up on occasions, think he should start against the cloggers of Stoke on weds.

I feel he needs a loan spell out somewhere certainly not performing at this level atm but still a young lad so give him time at a lower level I think 🤷🏼‍♂️👍

What is really turgid is your posts. Not two weeks into the new managers reign and look at you. And you called other posters unthinking!

There is so much improvement already in passing and movement. We need the focal point and we need to move the ball more quickly but the positive signs are there. Leaving the ground all I heard was people talking about the positive signs. Then on here we have AC being, well being predictable really.

Cooper is long gone, get over it. The new man is already an improvement.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Looking forward to the Cornish gold assessment.

If the last one was harsh, this one will be damning. We seem to have regressed.

An abject Sheffield had 2x more shots on target, with less possession.

Not seen nor heard from the fanboys any positives from Martin's tactical or personnel (significant investment) changes.

By watching him.
Long periods where he made little effort to make space to receive the ball. Looks to be good enough when he gets himself match fit.
