Wouldn't surprise me if the Welsh Govt bought the ground.

They've bailed out Cardiff's failing airport and Millennium centre repeatedly. Not a great stretch to believe that they'd subsidise another unnecessary venture that they should have no part in running.

Wales needs an airport.

If we had the same treatment as Scotland and the north of Ireland then it would work.

Proximity to Bristol apparently prevents that equal treatment.
Obviously the success if all English airports comes before the only welsh airport.

As Johnson said about business … ‘feck business’, it this case ‘feck wales’ …

Yes the FAW might get a Legoland bargain as part of the fire sale.

Beware of the Risen People

Could that be viewed as political interference?

If so, that's expulsion from the league.

Wales doesn't need an airport? Can you explain why you think it does?

You have given a very good reason why it doesn't get equal treatment and because of that very few people use Rhoose airport. Every passenger that goes through it's gates costs the Welsh tax payer money as such it is not financially viable.

Even if things changed and Rhoose got equal treatment, Bristol is so far ahead in defelopment it would cost too much to bring Rhoose up to standard.

PS, that EU you love so much, they prohibit state interference/funding so the Senedd would not be allowed to own the airport.

The FAW won't buy the CCS, how can they afford it? Plus if Tan sold the ground it would affect his chances of selling Cardiff to get his money back. It would be funny to see the faces of the Cardiff fans when we pointed out they didn't own their own ground though!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I remember suggesting many years ago Fairwood airport be developed given the sizeable population of Swansea and west Wales.Got pelters for that too.

Liverpool does OK, despite the proximity to Manchester (busiest outside London). But Fairwood, Cardiff and Bristol (and Liverpool) are hardly blessed with the transport links of Manchester,
Birmingham or East Midlands.

I imagine there would be a lot of opposition towards concreting over one of our most spectacular areas of natural beauty. I mean in practical terms the Gower would be perfect for an airport, a nice quiet peninsular within range of ports and population centres. You could have a nice long east to west runway, lots of space for hotels and other related businesses, would create a lot of jobs, but do we really want to f the gower up forever?

Correct, they have very little to no hope at all.

They have been through those contracts with a fine toothed comb. As have FIFA.

Which is why FIFA ordered them to pay and why Cardiff’s arguments are moving from contract based ones, which they were at the start - to now negligence and process. It’s very transparent.

With the CAS appeal being contract based, I can’t imagine it will take too long to reach the same conclusion FIFA did.

But I do think they will go down the administration route. I just hope it is a points deduction that matters. As the poster above says, not one given to them when already relegated.

I’d love this to actually relegate them. Stay up by 14 points then get docked 15, it would be exactly what they deserve.

Relegation to league 1 is not an easy thing to cope with, no matter how many have said they wouldn’t mind us being relegated “for a re-set”. Players would leave, finances would crash, sponsorship would diminish, fans spend would crash - an absolute disaster.

Will be fun to watch.

I can understand them trying to wriggle out of it, it’s an awful lot of money especially for a championship club. But it did leave a bad taste in the mouth when they went from “once a bluebird always a bluebird” to “he was never a bluebird so we don’t have to pay”. I think they’ve handled it appallingly from the start. Salas family think the same no doubt. Add that to the way they treated Sol Bamba, a bit of a club legend coming back from cancer finding out on Twitter that he had been released. Or a director getting on a supporters bus telling all the fans how shit he thought the manager was on the morning of a derby game.

I know we don’t have the best owners in the world but whoever is running Cardiff just seem to lack any sort of human decency whatsoever.

Yep. Developing Fairwood would be an act of environmental vandalism on a par with the equally insane idea of driving at least four lanes of motorway between North and South Wales that some people are so fond of.

I'd rather keep Gower and mid Wales relatively pristine rather than save an hours driving.

I do not exactly understand what Cardiff City have done wrong such that they need to pay entirely themselves for the loss of the player valued at £15m. They have insurance partners to help them with such unusual and terrible events.

The event might be so unusual that the insurance partners might not be willing to fork out. The fact that there is an element of criminality involved now a man has been convicted probably invalidates any insurance policy anyway.

What's not enough , ? time to pay what you owe. Think of all that interest accrued since you bought him .

I suspect most disasters involves some form of negligence or lack of diligence by the policy holder. Insurance firms have to compromise in such things. All the parties were insured and the balance of blame seems to be focused on the flying firm and the aircraft's owner.

I am not an expert but this whole event occurred under insurance cover. The clubs, the agent, the player, the pilot, the aircraft's hiring firm, the aircraft owners firm. It is not a simple case.

The pilot wasn’t qualified to fly at night which probably voids some sort of insurance covering the flight

Most event like this have blame attached to them such as car accidents. People driving too fast for example. If every one follows the rules exactly there would be no insurance business.

Spot on Kilkenny. Bristol Airport is not too nice if you ask me and the other side of Bristol. The ideal would be both airports owned by the same owners to share out the cake.

Welsh people need to realise the UK Government is not free market economy. The whole south east England property market is subsidised by the BoE printing money and cheap credit. It is a bubble. Without this subsidy the banking sector would crash once again.

Add to that
- the Olympics 2012 which involved unprecedented cheating.
- Cross rail late and over budget (great for property prices)
- The disgraced Royal family with discredited family members

I would also hazard a guess that football insurance probably covers the wages in the event of injury or death but wouldn’t necessarily cover the transfer fee. We are in uncharted territory here with a player sadly dying a day or so after the transfer.

But if insurance companies can get away with not paying out they won’t pay out.

I assume you've either never had insurance or read the exclusions within a policy .

The insurers of football club Cardiff City could be set to avoid a huge payout over the death of the £15m signing of Emiliano Sala.

Cardiff had previously been reported to have taken out a £16m personal accident policy on Sala with Lloyd’s insurers, led by China Re.

However, the BBC is reporting that Cardiff are refusing to make payments to Sala’s former club Nantes on the grounds that the transfer was not “legally binding.”

The 28-year-old striker died when his plane crashed into the English Channel near Guernsey on 21 January 2019.

Cardiff are claiming that Nantes’ conditions for completion of the deal were not fulfilled and that the player was not registered as a Premier League player.

Cardiff City were due to make its first instalment on 20 February.

But the French club are asserting that the required paperwork was completed and have referred the matter to governing body, Fifa, which has demanded that Cardiff City submit its evidence by April 3.

This could mean the claim becomes “null and void” due to unfulfilled clauses in the initial agreement.

The Welsh football club insists that due to the terms of the contract being somewhat elusive, such as the Premier League still having to clear Sala’s registration, that the deal is therefore not “legally binding.”

Number of insurance issues

Clive O’Connell, partner at law firm, McCarthy Denning told Insurance Times: “The tragic case of Emiliano Sala, unfortunately throws up a number of insurance issues.

“There were reports that his registration may not have been effective before he died which would mean that no compensation might be payable by the Professional Footballers Association from its insurance scheme. At the same time, an issue exists as to whether there is cover for his death from the plane owner or operator.

“The first point to mention here is that it is the plane owner or operator who will be in insured under any policy. The policy will protect them against any liability that they incur. If the policy does not respond, the liability will still exist. The owner or operator will still be liable and will have to pay compensation for any negligence from whatever resources they have.

“The second point to make is that much will depend on the terms of the insurance protection that they have purchased. Some motor insurance, for example, will not provide cover if the driver is not licensed. If an unlicensed driver uses a car, that driver is also uninsured.

“This will exacerbate any criminal sanction imposed for driving while disqualified or otherwise unlicensed as there will be an additional charge of driving while uninsured. In those circumstances, the Motor Insurance Bureau will step in an ensure that any injured third party is compensated. The MIB is a body funded by motor insurers from a charge on premiums. There is no equivalent of the MIB in aviation.

“If the policy contains exclusions which limit cover or exclude liability for unlicensed flights, it is very possible that the owners or operators of the plane will not receive anything from insurers. They therefore expose themselves to a claim from the estate of Emiliano Sala which they will have to meet from whatever resources they have.”

He stressed that the terms of the insurance policy will determine what happens, “without sight of that, however, it is impossible to be conclusive.”
