Yes when I went to work in west Africa it was a requirement that I had to be vaccinated against a number of illnesses like yellow fever, rabies, I can’t remember what I had in total, there were about five or six different vaccines and some of them needed multiple doses. I had more pricks than Katie price over a relatively short period of time but without proof of those jabs I couldn’t take the job. |

Actually when you see real immunogenicity data (which I was privileged to see at a conference yesterday), the response to infection is marginally better than a single dose of vaccine. However, the 'natural immunity' is short lived and is increasingly evident re-infection is common.
Sorry, 'natural immunity' is poorly protective beyond a few months.
Two doses of Pfizer gives much greater immune response (antibody and T cell) than infection and a single vaccine dose and hugely better response than infection. The double vaccine also elicits much better memory. This will explain why efficacy to disease remains very high -a response is mounted to re-infection which limits the virus, whereas infection protection which will relies on circulating antibody will drop off). The longer gap used in the UK between vaccine doses actually favours memory responses and not antibody.
And this is a five centre study, so if you think Liverpool, Oxford, Newcastle, Sheffield and UCL are all wrong, I suggest you write to the scientists and clinician leading the work and not me. |

I worked in a pub for 2 years, the air was always thick with smoke in the evenings but 30 years later it still hasn't put me in hospital.

Iam not decrying the achievements made medically over the last couple of centuries or more Iam rather more concerned with more recent times when the relationship between the medical profession and Big Pharma has become a little too cosy for my and many others' liking . I do take precautions. I get vaccinated. I wear a mask in shops. Young people can get ill too you know.
My biggest risk of catching covid is my son bringing it home from school which is why we need precautions. I'm not a fan of lockdowns but I am a fan of vaccinations. If people refuse the vaccines then it's the unvaccinated group (who are very much the minority) who will face restrictions.
My son, aged 13, won't face restrictions because he'll be vaccinated. The other young people won't suffer a lockdown if they are vaccinated. You make your choice and deal with the consequences. | |

In relation to the vaccine mandates and the NHS, we should ask what it achieves?
Will it lead to a golden age of no Covid and no waiting lists? Or will the NHS be under even greater pressure, understaffed and unable to hire, unable to clear beds.
