| Covid variant B.1.1.529 11:00 - Nov 26 with 11916 views | trampie | This latest covid variant sounds potentially serious, will there be a full lockdown by xmas ?, Blues and Scarlets trying to get back from SA, stock markets are crashing, will football be behind closed doors again ?, let's hope it's not as bad as some fear it could be. | |

| Covid variant B.1.1.529 on 17:33 - Nov 26 by Catullus | had mine on Wednesday. In SA the new cases found had more than tripled in the space of a week from less than 800 a day to 2,495 a day and we don't know how many there actually are in the townships out there, it's a lot different to over here. I see some people are still spreading lies and misinformation, sad. |
No they don't know what it is like in the townships as they do not know the actual percentage with the new variant. The News proaganda scaremongering said one thing and the scientists said something completely different, ie they don't know and it is going to to take a few weeks to gather and analyse enough data to find out what the real affects will be. You do get that 2,495 compared to our 47,000 per day? Well you have made the accusation, now it time to back it up. Let's here the lies and misinformation, with links to the correct information.

| Covid variant B.1.1.529 on 11:55 - Nov 26 by max936 | Had my 2nd jab 6 months to the day, just phoned up about my booster and I got to wait for letter, my youngest who is clinically vulnerable hasn't had his either and he had his 2nd jab in April, he has got his next Saturday though. |
Max, take your son down to the Mass Vaccination Centre and when you’re there ask if there’s any chance you and your wife can have it too? Explain you’re his carers, the vulnerability issues and they use might give you your boosters if the dates are tight. Defo worth a try.

| Covid variant B.1.1.529 on 12:13 - Nov 26 by EagleEye | There are delays with the booster jab in Wales as NHS Wales sent out thousands of appointment letters with appointment times but no dates … you couldn’t make it up. Whereas across the border if you are over 40 you can ring up & book the booster |
You are right about the letters with no dates ....... shambles. What they did to compensate for that down our way was open the centres to drop ins who were eligible to have the jabs. The MVC’s were inundated and dispensed more vaccines on those days than they would have had there been scheduled appointments. People in the 40 to 50 group will in theory be able to book the appointments soon, but in reality a significant number of the 40 to 50 year olds won’t be eligible to have the vaccine as they won’t 5 months plus and able to have it. Wales is probably a little further down the track than England in terms of numbers vaccinated.

I'm early 60's and I'm having the booster on Sunday . I was informed by text and letter which both arrived the same day so in fairness that's pretty efficient

They’re doing the text and letter in some places as a belt and braces approach to get things moving, I have no idea as to why the letters went out without dates but suspect it was a computer error following upgrades re the new letters. I know someone who works in an MVC and they’ve been telephony people up who may not have had the letters and inviting them in.

I also pointed out that it hasn't changes all year, so the numbers vaxxed did not change the level of the difference. You also seem to be forgetting that this is the under 60s group. | Covid variant B.1.1.529 on 00:12 - Nov 27 with 1030 views | ReslovenSwan1 | The new information comes from the WHO not the Government. The WHO do not recommend drastic action just the normal stuff of personal discipline, mask wearing ventilation and hand washing. Not even travel bans. The new variant could be positive if it is more transmissible but less virulent. Only a couple of weeks old so awaiting details. Not exacty sure of the science but it has 32 mutations. Once commentator thinks h it has developed in a man already suffering from untreated AID HIV is south Africa. It supports the WHO position that giving the Covid injections in rich national alone will not work. The Covid mutations if too great needs a new vaccine. It seems like a key fitting a lock. 32 new 'spike' mutations might require the vaccine 'key' to have more notches in it. A bit more than going back to Timpsons for a wire brush treatment.

I totally agree. never have denied it exists despite the lack of conclusive evidence. It's a nastier version of influenza and for vulnerable people the elderly and those with comorbidities it can be fatal. Just like the influenza and really any other virus. I also agree the government is using it to control and spread fear, which is what we are trying to wake people up to. Protect the old and vulnerable and let the healthy people live their lives, stop with the papers and stripping fellow human beings of the rights they were born with. Thankfully the government has tried to go too fast too quickly and many many people are waking up to it on a daily basis. more and more Jabbed and unjabbed people are putting differences aside and fighting for their freedoms and those of many future generation to come against the real virus which is the corporations running the countries and the media and their unconsciousness programing Not if but when the division stops we win the battle..

I'll need the Prof to put this straight but isn't the spike protein how the virus attacks you, if you come into contact with covid the virus will try and attach itself to your cells using the spike protein it carries itself. The vaccine teaches the T cell how to respond. That is why not having the vaccine is worse, because your T cells do not know how to respond and it's why the unvaccinated catch covid too. The big difference is the unvaccinated can be at much greater risk of serious illness. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/hea In that link there is a picture, think of those red cells as covid cells and the blue arms sticking out of them as protein spikes, I think. Hey Prof, help me out.

Yes Cat. ALL coronaviruses use spike proteins to attach and invade host cells. As such, and as surface expressed protein of the virus it’s a good immune target. It does not change that much- these are relatively small mutations, so a good vaccine target. We do know it will change offer time (50 years of vaccines for avian coronas) and the antigen needs to be updated. If omicron becomes a widespread issue (not all variants of concern have), then look at a new vaccine version for a booster next year. In the meantime the most sensible thing is to get a booster and wear a mask on public . One point - viruses don’t have a cellular structure. They are just nucleic acid surrounded by protein (capsid/coat) and lack a membrane that all cellular organisms have (including bacteria). Better called virions or particles. Some question whether they are truly alive.
