Let's take South Korea- a country that was able to impose restrictions that were voluntarily adhered too. Now if that level (and Seoul is imposing a new set of restrictions in the face of its greatest number of cases) were applied in the UK you would have all the Tory Headbangers shouting "Freedom" like they are flaming Mel Gibson in Braveheart. This was specifically advised against in the UK by behavioural scientists on SAGE. From a public health view it is sensible, but economically....
As far as nursing home. Yes, I am sure its possible to do on an individual basis. Good on the team there. But in a wider context it won't work. We don't have doctors or nurses in such places. It's all the low paid HCAs. As an analogy I work a lot on Campylobacter-most frequent cause of food poisoning and found in 60% of raw chicken. It's very transmissible in chickens and very iodfficult to keep out of flocks. Can it be done, Yes. Can it be done easily. No, it's hard work and there is no vaccine. We can do it, under extremely high biosecurity conditions in my experimental unit. It costs me about £10 to rear each chicken weekly. So translate that to a commercial setting would be a bird on the supermarket shelf at £60. About a twenty-fold increase over the cost now. So yes, we could have interventions that reduce (not eliminate) Covid but would need a lot more people in the NHS and social sector and a much bigger budget. Basic Tax at 30% anyone?

Hmm, I would think if that was the case it would be done to selective picking of hospitals, to manipulate their story.
From the information I have seen the figure for unvaccinated is 48%, so with that being the case, then surely any reporter could therefore find 16 hospitals with 100% of ICU patients vaccinated?
The BBC report doesn't really say a lot though, saying 80 to 90%, be far better to say the actual numbers.. Like 80-90% unvaccinated based on 30 patients in ICU, or is it 80-90% unvaccinated based on 3 people in ICU..

I think you will find the BBC contacted hospital in the areas with the highest infection rates from the virus. The 16 hospital replied that THEIR ICU were filled with 80 to 90% with unvaccinated covoid victims. The story is factual correct the infection rate in London is nearly 3 times the rest of the UK and in London only 75% of overs 12s have been vaccinated. There are a lot of unvaccinated people in London to catch the virus and fill their ICU beds. | |
