| What is success for Swansea City ? on 23:37 - May 8 by Luther27 | As a fan I’m prepared to accept a loss if my team has given their all. Our current team don’t and I find that unacceptable. Yes I don’t agree with the way we play. No I don’t agree with the mantra of we are a selling club and need to embark on yet another project of rebuilding. No I don’t agree with spending beyond our means and bankrupting the club. However as a fee paying fan I expect the best efforts from the club. My expectations are no higher than that. If fans like you say my expectations are too high then what is the point of throwing good money after bad in the form of season ticket renewal? Why would I pay to watch the crap I’ve seen this season? If achieving 15th place is acceptable then carry on and pay your dues. I’m not. |
What fans expect and reality is quite often very different and it's human nature to look for something to blame and pick holes in things. 10 years ago I would be agreeing with you but I find I am getting a lot more calmer and taking a step back to take things in and understand more, some do it and still can't see past their noses. The accounts show we have to sell and there is a model that the club has set out and want to follow, we have to sell more now after we relied heavily on loans in the last few seasons in attempt to get promotion but that didn't work and now we have to go down another route. I can't comment on what you do with your money, it's your choice and I can only respect what you decide on. I will continue to support the club and get behind the team, I will also stand up and make my feelings known during a game if I am not happy.......you can't just pick and choose when things are going right or wrong.

Well said. Here's some reality for the better fans; Without ambition, life is pointless. This applies to sport Every good professional wants to play at the highest level possible.Bad don't We had a glorious exciting opportunity to expand and market our club whilst in the Prem. We failed. After relegation ,our owners lowered our expectations. You can bet the likes of Norwich, hardy a masive metropolis, would not swop places with us. They will go up again and their fans will enjoy the roller coaster. We have Russell Martin the prospect of us bothering the play offs is laughable. The super fan we read about is a selfish animal, one wo cares only about his image a a great fan;its why they constantly preen their internet feathers and berate scum like me who does not take second best.Right now however,Id take second best as what we have now is basically dogcrap . It is one thing to have owners like ours ;quite another to accept you are basically stuck with no hope of getting to higher ground. There is nothing the matter with hope or ambition. Success is not being a garbage outfit like cardooff city

So a Championship club, good football and a side based on local lads coming through our Academy to give us identity. Avoid the risks of going bust in the Premiership. Finishing above Cardiff every year.

| What is success for Swansea City ? on 00:09 - May 9 by jasper_T | The Championship has been very ordinary for the last few seasons, and it's never been a league where the top 6 is out of sight for the majority of its clubs. "Success" has to involve being a part of that end of season excitement. Barnsley did it last season. Luton did it this. It's not a stratified league where you have a Big 4/6/8 and the rest can only dream of a meaningful finish. Any team that gets it right with whatever players are at their disposal has a very realistic shot of a playoff place. Potter disappointed but 5 wins and 3 draws in our last 9 games showed we were on a positive path. A little less shuffling before Christmas and a better choice of keeper and the playoffs were right there for us. Cooper crept into 6th with just 70 points after the covid break revived us following 6 poor months of solidly bottom half form. A more consistent season after that and the automatics looked within reach until the end of March. He had some highly paid players but who would trade Piroe or Obafemi for Andre Ayew? |
Correct, no reason we shouldn't be competing at the top end of this league. The ones who are suddenly promoting zero expectations ''because we were rubbish 20 years ago'', are the ones that complained endlessly for the last 2 seasons. It is not a coincidence. It is yet another construction to avoid facing up to the fact our manager (which they jumped on the train of with no thought), is severely under performing. The extremely generous and quite frankly ludicrous time limit they put on him to perform is now up - this is the new angle. Zero expectations.

I remember more the 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Then the other wins against the so called big clubs We really did eat at the top table We need new owners with real clout. That is what it is all about;to whom the Yanks sell.

Lots of clubs come down and dont go straight back up, or indeed struggle to, Portsmouth, Leeds, Southampton, Wolves, WBA, Sheff Utd the list goes on and on.

Where have you seen these expectations we should be in the Premier League though? I've not seen anyone say this. Pushing for play-offs along with the likes of Luton Town is what I have seen people saying.

Success for me so far is staying in the division this year, in the time I have left. probably promotion back to the Prem if that's possible, As a club moving to the Liberty we had a great start to move the club on, in moving on we lose something Hopefully us not getting relegated in my lifetime, and perhaps having a go at that comp that so far has eluded us the FA Cuuuuup! so I can shove 1927 where the sun don't shine. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Hey,I hope you have plenty of time left to see us get back to the top table. We deserved to be there. Brighton are there and went through some horrendous times.Their renaissance started with their new owners. We were simply sold down the river in the most unforgivable way.

A good riposte that Whitey. Looking at mid table Brighton last weekend and their destruction of meg club Yernited, the professionalism was staggering, keen, sharp, hungry and committed. There was little on that game for them ,as was trotted out by our fans for QPR game. It shows the health of a club and Brighton are very healthy. Potter has and is doing the job I hoped he would have done for us.He obviously jumped ship asap as he seems very intelligent and foresaw what we would become. It's a blood shame really.

There are dozens of clubs who want owners with real clout, unfortunately there are not enough billionaires to go around

If I had a hundred million I'd do what the actors are doing at Wrexham for a laugh. Chuck £10m into a National League club over 5 years and see what happens. Not going to miss it when you're that well-off. Or better yet a Welsh leagues club and get to go to Europe every summer. The Championship will gobble up that fortune in no time flat. He wants us to spend ourselves into the same kind of debt as Cardiff. Of course if that happened then he'd be whining at the owners for doing that.

| What is success for Swansea City ? on 13:07 - May 9 with 883 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Swansea drank at the top table while balancing the books for 7 years due to inspired leadership. It was not sustainable and the club was one bad injury to a key player or one bad transfer window from relegation. Changing managers every 18 months. The club can do it again. This time the manager will be all in owning 2-3 % shares and be paid in club shares in the club. It needs a "protector of the faith" to stay at the club in excess of 5 years. The academy needs to start producing again and find a big no 9 striker or three (currently none in 20 years). All games with Swansea will be tough games for anyone. The phrase "we lacked intensity" or "we lacked energy" will not be spoken. Why do properly conditioned athlete "lack intensity" week after week. If it happens that often then the conditioning fitness teams have questions to answer. Swansea will need to be challenging for promotion every season. Every team should have at least one local product preferably captain preferably a commanding centre back. . | |

Roughly my thoughts. I'd agree with the promotion every few years then making the best of the PL without breaking the bank just to stay in it ie spending a fortune on Ayew and Bony for example. If we could stay there with a sensible financial model i'd be all for it but not spend in desperation to stay in it.

| What is success for Swansea City ? on 19:18 - May 9 with 735 views | magicdaps10 | It really makes you step back and think when you read that people think 16th in the champ is mediocre after they also lived through the mid/late 80s, 90s and early 2000s supporting the club. Can't fathom that people say we had spirit and desire whilst in div 3 and 4 but are questioning us in the 2nd tier. Its shameful how some have got entitlement and expectancy muddled up. I posted a while back, if someone had told me during 1994 that we would be a 2nd tier team in 2022 I would have laughed at them SO I would be a hypocrite to stand here today and say that I expected more regardless of the journey inbetween. | |

if someone had told me back in 1977 within 5 years we would be in touching distance of winning the first division title I would have questioned their sanity yet we did it. we flirted at the top table but had a huge demise as a result of lack of funds and infrastructure. Yes we can talk of where we were inthe late 80s and 90s but we were what we were . . then we had that great renaissance and unlike then we spent 7 years at the top table and invested millions in infrastructure such as the academy and the Fairwood facility we have a better quality of squad including loanees from PL clubs...did we have the likes of Grimes Naughton Piroe Obafemi Natchm Downes in those days? There is no sense of entitlement not for me I stood on the Grange end when we were effectively wound up thinking it may be the last time I'd ever be able to see the Swans play.Since then we rose again and this time had the chance to build. Unlike the last time we fell from the top table we didn't keep sliding down in fact we stabilised and then improved our position season on season until now despite adding to the quality of the squad. would you be saying the same if we had lost in 2013 to Bradford saying we shouldn't have expectations because of those days in the 80,s 90s and 00s Funny last season many on here were moaning we failed to get automatic promotion and then have whinged since about losing the play off final didn't see you in here spouting this spiel then [Post edited 9 May 2022 19:59]

Well for circa £400 season ticket I feel I am ENTITLED and EXPECT to see the players put a shift in even if they don’t win. If they don’t the least I expect from the manager is a bloody good answer not the bilge this guy spouts But….if you are happy to float along with not to high an expectancy then good luck and enjoy.
