| The Queen on 10:12 - Sep 9 by cadleigh | To be fair to Tony Blair, if it wasn't for his statesmanship when Diana died, the monarchy might look very different today. I am very sad that she has died, and very respectful of the years of service she gave this country. She clearly never expected to get the job, or wanted it, but she stuck with it and did her duty as she saw it. What I don't get is all these commentators, and ordinary people, saying that she saved this country, steered us through crises etc as though she was any kind of player in the political system. Monarchs are purely symbolic heads of state. They play no part in policy-making and I can think of no time when she interfered in politics. And rightly so. Much as I would have liked her to send Boris Johnson packing when he asked to be made Prime Minister, it would have been wrong. |
The final paragraph is an excellent reason why, if we have to retain the Monarchy, the number of members should be drastically reduced.

Commentators can say what they want but the Queen was well aware. "I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice. But I can do something else. I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations."

I doubt she interfered but I imagine that during the weekly audiences with the various prime ministers she would have offered advice, suggestions or even administered a few telling offs.

| The Queen on 08:27 - Sep 9 by union_jack | 😂 Life has to go on. I hope that is what she would’ve wanted. Football needs to be played as do all other sports with the appropriate markers of respect. She certainly wouldn’t want any horse racing called off. |
My opinion, she wouldn't hace cared if people wanted to carry on with their lives but she may well have liked it if people could just be a little bit nicer. For example, why does a poster feel it's Ok to use her passing to have a dig against England? Is it really so hard to be nice?

I'm afraid for some its ingrained in their very being , and how sad their lives must be when regardless of the event it gives them another opportunity to to vent their lopsided/bigoted view on life.

Nothing to do with nice but hatred on racial lines. Has Sein Fein sent condolences yet?

One of the Queens finest moments in my opinion is when she met Martin McGuinness who asked her “Are you well?” And the queen without a moments hesitation and complete politeness said “Well I’m still alive.” He’s probably still feeling that burn five years after his death.

That just showed her class, to be able to stand face to face with that monster and still be polite, even if she did make a very good comment that must have hurt.

When you consider she lost direct family members and friends and then having to shake his hand has to be one of the finest examples of turning the other cheek, all in the name of peace and the greater good

Our new King, on the other hand, may find it harder to keep his personal opinions to himself if past precedent is any guide.

One of the few things I admire about old Charles the 3rd is his stickingto his guns and he will probably find it hard to stay neutral. I reckon he'll cause quite the commotion.

The rights and enjoyment of many who have little and no interest in the queen are being taken away, people should have a choice, i am pretty certain 99.9% of people would have still gone to enjoy there sport and other interests if they had been allowed to do so, also many of the masses who attend the state funeral will only be there to be a part of an amazing and rare spectacle and most of those masses will also not lose a minutes sleep over the death of the queen either.

Interesting and rather sad .l Many millions are utterly disinterested in football especially its utter greed. We have seen obscene transfer fees with accompanying grotesque salaries whilst the punters face a very tough winter . Rather ironic

| The Queen on 19:57 - Sep 8 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | My point was the factory workers and carers once they’ve finished work can go to the pub, go to a restaurant with friends and families, go down the shops, go see a film with friends at any time without a gaggle of paparazzi and world media following their every move. It’s those little things in life that we take for granted that her Maj could never experience. |
Poor woman how lucky the Carers and Factory workers are then, i did not realise this, we will also ignore the trauma of a Carer or Factory worker finding a suspicious lump and waiting months to get it sorted when that poor woman who could not go and see a film with friends would get seen to in no time hey at least she lived a long life to enjoy her grand children due to great medical care unlike the carers and factory workers who never received that care, but as you say at least they once could go and watch a film with there friends also, the film premiers and amazing events the Queen attended with friends and family must have been quite an ordeal for her as well the poor woman must have had such a hard time.

Now saying that to a sex offender or a murderer would be understandable but saying it to someone who is not to fussed about the Queen and thinks sporting events should not be called off is quite silly really, your quite a cowardly and overly dramatic fool for using language like that but your on a forum and feel safe i suppose.

https://www.itv.com/news/utv/2 There is something for you to digest the 'Queen of England ' quote, a lot of people saw her as the Queen of England and not necessarily Queen of their patch, I know what what her titles were but saw her as the Queen of England and now Charlie has come along and I see him as King of England, not King of Wales regardless of what his titles say.

A Sinn Fein quote, you know very well what you are doing. Technically of course, as she was Queen of the UK then of course she was Queen of England BUT of Wales, Scotland and NI too. Keep trying to spread hate, it's quite pathetic and it has long been seen for what it is.
