| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 00:28 - Oct 9 with 19933 views | NotLoyal | The battle for solidity in the top six is next. Swansea City in fine form for todays game against Burnley 15th Oct 2022 08:25Swansea City go in todays game against Burnley on a fine run of form, especially when it comes to winning games away from home of late. The test at turf moor today will be one of the hardest of the season but a win today for the swans would consolidate their position in the top six, a loss could see them fall dramatically if results go against them. 0 The Ref - Stephen Martin will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Burnley on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years. He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials. This will be the thirteenth time he has taken charge of a Swans games. Ten of the previous contests were league matches and the most recent of these was the Swans first home match of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion, Martin handed out four bookings with yellows shown to Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as well as Rovers’ Sam Gallagher. So far this season, he has taken charge of eight games handing out 27 yellow cards but no reds. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Matthew Smith. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official. Burnley: Arijanet Muric, Jack Cork (captain), Ian Maatsen, Nathan Tella, Vitinho, Josh Brownhill, Anass Zaroury, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Josh Cullen, Jordan Beyer, Jay Rodriguez. Subs: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Barnes, Manuel Benson, Samuel Bastien, CJ Egan-Riley. Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Matty Sorinola; Olivier Ntcham, Joel Piroe; Michael Obafemi. Subs: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Luke Cundle, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Fin Stevens, Ollie Cooper. Swansea City resort to type and lose their way in Lancashire 15th Oct 2022 20:09We have seen some poor performances this season from Swansea City, and todays annihilation at Burnley was right up there. The swans didn’t turn up, they didn’t care and they couldn’t process a team who had far more than they did in energy and desire. It was a real ‘thumping back down to earth bump’ that once again will test the credentials of Russell Martin over the coming days. 0

Win the next 2 at home and today will be only thought of as a blip.
| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 on 22:48 - Oct 15 with 1293 views | sw02sea | I have to say, that performance was absolutely abysmal !! Latibeaudiere, Naughton, Sorinola, Cabango, Piroe, Obafemi, Ntcham were pathetic. How did we only loose by 4 ? My mistrust of Russell Martin’s “process” was starting to ebb, due to the form of the last 5 games. But today reinforced all those doubts I had previously. You play against a top side, who played with basically 2 really fast wingers. Knowing this, RM sets us up with a back 3 with no pace, and 2 wingbacks, one of which has no pace, and the other who has no conception of the art of defending. What could possibly go wrong ?? What went wrong was we had a team that wasn’t motivated, a wrong team formation, and a team devoid of pace. Add to that a player who has gone missing for at least the last 3 games, and gets sent off for a mindless act, and you get the picture why we lost so badly. | | | |

Not one player is worthy of mention singling them out, which is sometimes poor form reflects they were the only ones to not turn up.

He's got his targets and he's sticking to them. Surprised he's not found some way to have a couple of pops at Fisher whilst he's at it. Two weeks of pent up rage have all come spilling out since the end of the game. Winning four on the bounce must have been hard on him.

What relevance does Andy Robinson have to our defeat yesterday? No, I'm not happy. I never am after a defeat. Unlike some however I don't luxuriate in them. I tend not to post much at all when we lose. Prefer posting more when we win. Sort of the opposite to you really.

| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 on 18:41 - Oct 15 by krunchykarrot | Got you, im a realist played and watched enough to make a balanced arguement. I beleive RM is learning on the job playing football the correct way with players who sometimes are not good enough. So everyone will have to adapt to our budget. RM got it wrong today, but i still think he should be given time. Today our star Striker was abysmal his pace and first touch has gone. Sorinola was found wanting with Ben also having a wobble. There seems to be undeserved criticism for Grimes the same as Jack Cork had when he was here. Whatever you sell these type of players for you will never replace them for the same money in my opinion. |
Firstly Grimes is nowhere near Jack Cork in ability. Secondly no one wanted Grimes so his value is very low anyway. Lastly RM isn’t learning as far a I can see. We’ve had a great run but not looked convincing in any of our games. I’m actually wondering if he regarded yesterday as a free hit so rested Cooper and Cundle ? Our lack of defensive pace and decent full backs doesn’t bode well - why on earth didn’t he at least loan some?

????? I'd like to think that was meant to say "Now that was succinctly put." but not put very succinctly 🙃 Just to add , no point playing players with particular skill sets if you don't give them the space to use them. [Post edited 16 Oct 2022 11:01]

You mention Latibeaudiere, Naughton, Sorinola, Cabango, Piroe, Obafemi, Ntcham were pathetic but exclude the dire Wood, Grimes and Fulton. Wood's errors have led to goals on a regular basis and only Cabango and Naughton have saved him embarrassment. I feel sorry for Naughton, Darling and Cabango because when Wood makes a mistake they tend to be there to clean up but when they mKe a mistake it is Woodmis nowhere. And, will someone please tell the boy he does not have twinkle toes so stop trying fancy ball control when under pressure and stop when not unde pressure but leads to it.

Wood has also made face saving tackles for other players so that works both ways, he is young and inexperienced at this level but I think he will continue to improve in the correct team setup. I had a little go at Manning a while back about his lack of concentration defensively, since he seems to become a vital piece in the team given his recent play and I think we missed him yesterday. Not as a wing back for sure, he's got no pace, always 1 challenge away from a yellow, whether its pulling back a player or a rugby style tackle, defending set pieces in the box he has no idea where the ball is because he's clinging the bloke he's supposed to be marking, even after the ref's had a word he's at it, I dont think football and brain can be used in the same sentence, unless you put, lack of, before it.

Think in Martin's setup up the Wingbacks are asked to do a bit too much, we have seen Laird and Christie both have good starts but then fade away seemingly unable to do what is asked of them. Both Joel and Sorinola didn't offer enough in the team set up yesterday. As a number of players didn't but I wouldn't have them both playing unless defending a lead.
