These are mediation style centres set out to assist in Muslim matrimonial disputes exactly the same as our mediation centres. Non binding and certainly nothing whatsoever to do with non Muslims. Sharia law is not recognised as having any equality or anything to do with English and Welsh law, certainly does not seek to place any authority on anyone who isn’t Muslim

Why not use UK mediation services? Why the requirement for Sharia Court? The main word being Court. The point I’m trying to make is the UK does accommodate different cultures….and so has Qatar when it comes to inviting people from the world to their country.

Because I’d imagine, that caters towards their culture and it is what they’re happy using. It’s not a court in the Court of Law sense, they have no meaning in English and Welsh law. Same footing as mediation centre, All barristers belong to ‘Inns of Court’ fancy name for the places where we become barristers, they’re not ‘courts’ in the way we think about them. Q doesn’t accommodate different cultures, won’t even allow rainbow hats into a football match

Did the tour have an effect and contribute to the change in their 'policies'??? - could similar happen in Qatar?

Different matter. It is against the belief in the Koran with regards to gay people wether that be in Qatar or here in our country. Try wearing a gay pride hat to a mosque here and see the reception you get. Qatar allows all religions into their country….though probably like Saudi it’s illegal to take a bible into the country.

I don't think they did. The shift in policy I think was forced upon them by greater forces, including the groundswell of support for Nelson Mandela whilst still in captivity. I am no scholar in this, but I would expect no change in culture from Qatar.

My response was in relation to the suggestion that somehow there are 'religious police' forcing Sharia Law onto non -Muslims, which is completely untrue. Re the gay pride hat, you could probably say the same thing about many Churches in the UK.

Yes the 20 year sporting embargo on South Africa certainly had an effect on the white minority government. The white population of South Africa loved their sport. Not sure it will have any effect on Qatar which has no semblance of democracy.

Not sure the embargo would have forced a change in the racist policy that allowed apartheid to exist for so long though ?

Gareth Edwards, Barry John, JPR and co agreed to play "white skinned rugby" in south Africa. The rules under which they played were that all the players should be white Caucasian stock. It reinforced racism not helped its demise. Plenty of people pointed this out to them at the time including Peter Hain ex MP for Neath. We in Wales especially the WRU behaved disgracefully and have never apologised for this horrible misjudgement as far as I know. Gay people are not banned from Qatar 2022. All FIFA game ban the promotion of political movement to stop them piggy backing on their tournaments. Even the poppy days were banned subject to proof it was not political. Certain Irish footballers who did not want to take part have d been subjected to race hate. These features were banned but the FA and FAW have open the doors with BLM and now all activist groups want a piece of the action. The FAW are cowards in not demanding the Redwall cease racist and deeply offensive prongraphic lurid chanting. I find it very offensive.

Yeah ! wearing rainbow hats is sure to change things in Qatar, I bet they are heart broken that a few have turned up wearing rainbow attire. If countries boycotted the world cup it would have had a much greater affect than rainbow hats, plus it would have been a boot in the bollox to the corrupt organisation called FIFA. But no, lets take the money and then wear rainbow laces, that will absolve us from our gross hypocrisy.

For me it’s more about victimisation of women, which last night it was. How dare they have a choice.

Maybe we should ban the burka in this country as a sign of our solidarity for the oppressed women of Iran.

Ban something in this country? You can stand on a street corner & preach racial hatred, fly an ISIS flag even walk down the street with a swastika on your arm without getting arrested. This country has gone way to far in allowing people (of any race/religion/sexuality) to do whatever they want.

Don’t fret mate. We re all the same ,as I’ve said many 5imes. That’s English and Welsh btw. If England win this tournament ,and they could, then any semblance of support for women/gays etc will vanish underneath a tsunami of hypocritical sheets. Re#oven is right though by saying we shouldn’t complain really. All countries have different laws and theirs are abhorrent to us. That said, we have people who see Iran as treating minorities fairly.iI read that on here, honest. Good old Iran eh. We should NOT be there. Wales won’t be anyway so then the players can be “ honest”
