Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread UPDATED ! 22:04 - Dec 28 with 10393 viewsKeithHaynes

Swansea City are on a run of eight games without a win, certain fans are now calling for the club to sack Russell Martin. Although it won’t happen in the immediate there is only so far a commitment to a style of play can go. The pressure is on Martin now more than it has ever been before since his appointment.

Slaven Bilić ‘Swansea City are clever, they trick you’ 30th Dec 2022 10:00
Watford have an ever increasing injury and suspension list as they take on Swansea City in tonight’s Championship fixture at the swansea.com stadium. ( Kick Off 7.45pm ) On Boxing Day the hornets lost at home to Millwall causing a team meeting and some frank discussions as you can imagine with Slaven Bilić at the helm. Now he wants a complete change in his sides mindset for tonight’s game. 0

Russell Martin answers his critics with an emphatic win for Swansea 31st Dec 2022 08:00
Swans boss Russell Martin responded in the only way he could to his growing critics at the swansea.com last night. His sides 4-0 win against Watford not only reinforced his belief he has the credentials to take the swans in to the play offs, it sent his various and growing dissenters to a quiet place at least for the evening. 1

Wonder if Martin has given them a bollocking and it’s worked ?

Perhaps he actually said less for a change, instead of over loading them with info.

That's how I saw it, total togetherness in the squad and management tonight. The sooner the bad apples are removed the better. The next month will be very interesting.

Think it's becoming clearer by each day.

Pato and Obefami have shown glimpses but are very inconsistent, inconsistency has been a major issue with the team and throw in the bad apple side to them.....we need them out prompto.

Amazing what a gone off fruit can do in the camp 😏

Controlled the game against a team that came to play and as we've seen before against such opposition. Fair play though the attackers took their chances.
Can this continue against a team that sits back?
Happy tonight.

Maybe he’s the one who’s had the bollocking from the chief executives . He’s picked a different formation, given hapless wood the chop and Patterson.

The result was a massive performance full of energy and intent. Cullen certainly displayed the desire and character that Obafemi lacks. So pleased for him and especially Piroe with two good quality finishes.

Tend to agree, 433 works well in this league. We have some good players, if we play quickly and fight we've got a good chance in most games.

That and 442, you can't go wrong with those two formations in this league and as you have said apart from burnley and to a lesser extent Sheffield utd we can beat anyone with a bit of fight.

That's a good question, teams who come to play allow us to play how we want to play, we struggle against teams who sit deep and pack the final 3rd.

We will play Burnley Monday and they will want to play, we must keep in mind that they are a better team and individuals......will be a good test both physically and mentally.

If players don't want to play for the club they need shifting. From a distance did we undertaken due diligence on the character of some of our signings?

Advanced wing backs is a really interesting formation, however as I believe Jasper pointed out a good few months ago, the players who can play in those positions and the skill set of the 3 centre backs needed to play it is way out of our price range. It's telling that our loan defenders can't play it either, so have been a waste of money.

I hope Martin can see that we need to go 4-4-2, especially at home and support the striker. Agree that there were players on the pitch that wanted it today and were more comfortable in the formation.

Looks like we need to shift Obafemi before we can bring in a replacement as we don't look like recalling our loanees at this stage.

Paterson has done the square root of bugger all since he started playing Billy big bollocks and refused to play. We should have kicked his ugly yellow no good keister off our property when we had the chance.

I remember posting the issues with Pato and Martin several times, I was told I made it up despite showing texts long before anything broke.

I also had a text last night to state another strop after a falling out with Martin, looks like it’s correct again.

I seem to remember people saying the fact he signed a contract showed total togetherness with Martin because they had a picture together. Amazing how easily led people are by a media team.

People fall out and make up all the time, there's sometimes no rational to it apart from human nature its in all of us to resent people on times, get over that resentment until a trigger reignites it, its all about trust you give a bit see how it responds and continue from there, sometimes you have to see the bigger picture, both manager and player have to realise the end game.

Unless Paterson and Obafemi have been forcing Russy to play a back three with several players out of position then blaming them for our previous poor performances is a massive leap.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Cullen stepped up and demonstrated why maybe we wouldn’t miss obafemi. A lovely assist for the first goal and a good goal for himself.

Him Ollie and Cunfle showed proper commitment to the shirt last night. Paterson nor obafemi just don’t seem to show anywhere like that desire. I know you’re a big fan of both but if we can get something for them perhaps a move away for both might be the best option.

On another note a nice big of dog about us too last night. Excellent physicality and got into Watford’s faces. We need that every game.

Agree, hope Cundle is allowed to continue his development with us and not recalled and loaned out to another Championship team.

Thought it was Grimes best game as well.
Cundle and Cooper playing for each other, seems to be a nice understanding between them, nice movement from both creating space and passing opportunities for other members of the team

We looked much better set up last night, but i couldnt help thinking what we would have done to them with a pacy player like Scot Sinclair. Lets hope Cooper and Cullen have given Piroe the boost required.
