Some people need to lighten up. Some say Murray is the greatest sportsman ever. Others disagree. Some view tennis as a real sport Others ( like myself) view it as an elitist sport than the ordinary person cannot afford to play at professional level. Sports like football, darts, snooker and rugby are more accessible to the common man. Not goading or look for an argument, just giving my opinion. Either disagree or pass by, but no need to be rude Jack247

| Is Tennis Even A Real Sport ? on 17:48 - Jan 21 by onehunglow | To suggest tennis is a toff's game is simply incredible. It might be in some quarters but talk to the likes of Djokovic and many American kids who werent the scions of wealthy. We are seeing inverted sporting snobbery of the worst kind. This country makes me sick ,frankly. |
Sort of. Anyone can play tennis of course, grab a ball and a racquet and off you go. However if you want to end up as a top pro, then most will have been at some form of academy which is at minimum about $35,000 a year up to about $85,000 a year (USD) depending on which one it is. Novak went to Germany at aged 13 to play in the Pilic academy, Murray (and his brother) went to Barcelona at 14 or 15. The best Welsh player of the last couple of decades is Evan Hoyt, from Llanelli. Couldn’t really crack the top 300, but was hugely talented. Even he did much of his training in Spain with Soto tennis club. Very nice family.

| Is Tennis Even A Real Sport ? on 15:50 - Jan 21 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | Darts and snooker have to be the most demanding games mentally on the planet. The main difference between the champions and the lesser players is how they handle pressure. Most professional snooker players would regularly and easily knock in century plus breaks in practice but can’t replicate it when it matters. |
No more mentally demanding than Tennis, difference being you have the physical demands of Tennis to cope with as well which make the importance of mental strength vital especially after playing at an intense pace often in extreme heat for 3 4 or even 5 hours.

The OP brought into question the sport itself. In many Balkan countries ,it is grass roots stuff. Many see Golf in a similar light yet look at Municipal courses and those who queue up to play. Class clearly infects every part of our being even sport

He wasn’t being rude, he was making a very clear observation that you spend hours moaning about conflicts on here when you are very clearly trying to start them. You have placed people on ignore, yet actively trying to get a rise out of them. Stop playing the victim all the time when very clearly the antagonist.

Tennis is accessible. £25 membership for kids at Ashleigh Road. I think the first 12 months for an adult is £125.00 (the price of a night out - if you are lucky). Free public courts. Entry level racquets which are cheap and decent quality. Basic trainers rather than tennis shoes to get started. How much does a football kit and boots cost? [Post edited 21 Jan 2023 18:45]

All of us who grew up on the big council estates in Swansea will confirm this. Swansea is more like Richard Webster and Enzo Mac, rather than Tim Henman and Cliff Richard. The All England Tennis Club did not have a lot of members in Gendros and Portmead as far as i am aware. Henman Hill ….. ffs …. Tiger Tim …. 🤣🤣 |

You posh ! You use Camp coffee and out consented milk in it. I’d rather be posh than an inverted class snob Football the working man’s game with players earning more in a morning than many of their loyal fans earn in a year And the fans say good luck to them too. Footballers in mansions that Lord Leverhulme wouldn’t have felt cramped in

This is what annoys me Max. I used to play at the centre. Some great coaches there and watching the kids develop and play to a good level was brilliant. Many of the families were just normal hard working people who wanted the kids to play a sport, keep fit and most importantly enjoy themselves regardless of their background. With other distractions, we need to keep kids fit and playing sports. Suggesting Tennis isn't one is just one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard.

Nothing rude about what I said. I actually prefer darts to tennis. To suggest it is more of a sport, or that tennis isn’t a real sport is just baiting. Yes, to reach the very top in tennis, you need the kind of financial backing not accessible to everyone. On what planet does that mean it’s not a real sport? I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen Keith or John appealing for less bickering on here lately. Threads designed for that very purpose aren’t going to help.

Especially when he then blames the intended target time and time again. On a side note, my random PM generator is proving to be a successful experiment, quite incredible the people who say they have put someone on ignore but haven’t. Makes you wonder why they claim the opposite.

To reach the top on most sports ,financial backing is crucial. When I dabbled in Speedway ,the financial backing of the top riders was different planet . It means maintenance, back up, spares ,tuning all being done by a Specialist who was paid by the Rider . Those without the clout had inferior machines and machinery . Fact is the top riders were the most skilled and dedicated and earned the most money as a result. Gotta respect that

| Is Tennis Even A Real Sport ? on 09:21 - Jan 22 with 423 views | STID2017 | It seems that this post has touch a nerve with some. The reality is I do regard it as a sport although, as at least two posters have acknowledged, whilst many can access it for free or relatively cheaply, to reach professional level at it involves having access to a large financial fund. Whilst not a sport I enjoy watching, of course I realise many enjoy it. With regards to Dr P's remarks about having him on ignore, this is something I have chosen to do to avoid having direct access to his posts and therefore getting involved in the conflict he invites from all and sundry on a daily basis. Admin are aware it is voluntary on my part and of course it does not mean I cannot ad will not read the forum at times when I am logged out. This is of course breaking no site rules, although i do understand it upsets him. | |

Don’t think it touched a nerve with anyone did it? People were just a bit confused as to why you seemed to be looking for a reaction from those you “claim” to be ignoring. It’s not voluntary is it? Isn’t it the rules that when you report someone (which you did) then you have to put them on ignore… I think your threads in the last week have confirmed to all that it is you that invites conflict, not the other way around. But I will always reply and put you straight though. I don’t deal with nonsense.
