Michael Duff rumours increase so what happens next ? 18th Jun 2023 07:00
Barnsley manager Michael Duff is reportedly now an official candidate for the Swansea City job which seems to appeal to a large number of Swansea City fans. We featured Michael yesterday on Swansea Independent as speculation started on the Northern Irishman yesterday morning. 0

You're absolutely right, go Max.🤪

3 managers have made the same choice after being disappointed with the winters transfer window, all three had ambitions that obviously weren't shared by the owners.

We've since been told that lessons have been learnt, lets wait and see.

I phrased it badly.
I left Keith’s jouno course after he threatened to punch my lights out.

If HE wants to go,then we need to do it now.
It’s dragged on too long.
I like the idea of Duff and yeah they were unlucky in the play off

To be fair to you there is an angle of the story that stacks up. It is a free world

If Southampton only want to pay £1.25, and Swansea want a minimum £1.75m Russ himself can pay the difference or at least half of it. £250k. They you go Russ pay up mate.

Russ would have gone backed or not Southampton will pay him more bigger budget as well parachute money Ward Prowse will go for 40 million.

Russ was backed we lost 14 million last accounts.

Copper had some very expensive loans so was backed.
Potter was offered PL football.
We can't compete with that.

Crazy blaming the owners for everything if the club was run like some on here want we would be well on our way to being the next Bury by now.

They deserve some credit for what they are trying to do now.

New investment
New DOF
Doing their best to get some decent compo from Southampton.
Like the sound of the new manager.

I am optomistic What with Watson the new manager and investment I am hopefull we will have a good season.

Losing 14million was Russ's fault then?

Potter and Copper obviously felt disillusioned after the January window as did Martin their minds on the job in hand changed at that point you could visibly see it their body language.

Cooper at Wembley in the playoff Final didn't look at all interested in my opinion and neither did Potter after that January he over saw.

Even after the talk by Levien and Silverstien after this years window closed that lessons had been learned from the "mistakes" made in the January window and would be put right in the summer, then it the came out after that, that the players here had to be assessed before any players were brought in, can understand the need to assess your strengths at the club, before deciding on targets, but that's not was said .

I happy that we are run sustainably and I'd be more than happy to finish mid table every season.

Some on here, won't hear anything said against the owners nothing at all.

What are they trying to do now? I'd love to know, apart from them trying to grab the last penny out of Martin leaving.

The squad is off to Spain next weekend and we are managerless and rudderless.

Some on here won't accept that managers and players sometimes want to move for their own interests. Everything has to be the owners fault.

It needs to be this week or the Swans squad will be departing to Spain for their conditioning camp without a conditioning coach, manager, assistant, goalkeeping coach and whatever else the other bloke does.

Hardly good for fitness plans, and overall planning and preparation for the new season.

It should have been sorted few weeks ago. In the US they’d don’t have relegation here so it the season goes Pete Tong they can just start again next time out, over here there’s relegation and the ramifications are huge. There was a delay in Gylfi leaving back in 2017 and at the end of that season the Swans were relegated. They need to get it sorted and now.

Who's fault is it that we are managerless just before the players come back, Potter, Cooper, Martins the fans the players or the clubs cat.?

Why have we seen our previous 3 Managers disillusioned after the January Window, one is acceptable but we've had three!

Pity that there are NDA's involved when managers have left, maybe if there weren't we'd have a better picture.

Yes managers come and go all the time it's not just us.

Our owners have been ok tried to keep us on an even keel tough in the championship to do that.

Some just want to blame them for everything they are not perfect but we could do worse.

But the bottom line is if you constantly look for negativity you will find it.

Could spin that the other way though what would the board say about Russ.

4 seasons he has been a manager and achieved nothing yet was lucky to get a job with us and even luckier that Southampton are interested.

I've seen people try to claim that Russy must have done a good job for Southampton to want him in the first place. It's like Roberto Martinez's entire career has passed these people by entirely.

If you develop a reputation as a progressive young manager you can coast on it for years, no matter how badly you f*ck up wherever you go.

It's clear they had their differences and maybe they were insurmountable, I said on another thread a little while ago that its probably fair to assume that parting of the ways is best for both parties.

I get that you don't like Martin and his process but I think that it's a bit more complicated than simply saying it's Martin's fault.

Southampton wanted to speak to Martin and he wanted to listen. Not the first manager we've had that has wanted to hear what another club is offering.

There are obvious reasons why he would want to listen £££, but there are probably other ones as well. The comments from Silverstein suggest a breakdown in trust between owners and Marin. Why there was a breakdown between them is probably the place to start. However that is the question that is least likely to be answered and will always be the subject of speculation.NDA time.

Why are discussions between us and Southampton taking so long? We can speculate that it's over a few hundred thousand pounds, or even that Martin won't sign unless certain players move with him and there could be a whole host of issues if that is the case.

Whatever happens with Southampton I cannot see any way Martin can remain in charge. Without understanding what has gone on behind the scenes I don't think we lay exclusive blame on either Martin or the owners

Once Martin had been approached and had agreed to take the Southampton job the choices were …
Swans accept what Southampton offered.
Swans accepted he was going but put a price on the move with conditions (staff, players) and cut off date then either Southampton pay up or it goes to arbitration.
Swans could have said, 'you are not leaving' thereby forcing Matin to resign and sued him (and maybe Southampton) for compensation.
But, a few hundred thousand is the difference between getting a manager we want and getting one we can afford. I see no reason to let Southampton dictate our financial decisions and leave us out of pocket.
The important thing now is to bring in the new manager.

Don't disagree but it depends on whether there are other issues going on in their conversations apart from the money for Martin and his coaches.

Just reading the Barnsley board....some numpty posted that we weren't a big club....and was put straight. See below..

Chef Tyke said: ↑
Have seen it mentioned about Swansea being a ‘big club’

are they ****

zero history, fairly poor support, just a load of plastics from the prem days in their plastic ground

The Reply

Time to take them tinted Barnsley glasses off i'm afraid, in nearly every aspect Swansea are more attractive than we are.

2022/23 - 10th in the championship
2021/22 - 15th in the championship
2020/21 - 4th in the championship
2019/20 - 6th in the Championship
2018/19 - 10th in the championship

and then they were in the premier league since 2011.

They are a bigger club than us, they have a good history which includes winning a major trophy in England and They've played in european competition fairly recently.
