Those two others haven’t been won so why not start this coming Friday against Coventry City ? 0 Swans lose but only just 26th Dec 2025 23:00The Swans fell to defeat at the divisions top side this afternoon at Coventry City. The inconsistency and some would say a lot more of referee Sam Allison was shocking - as was the miss towards the end by Liam Cullen. 0

| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 18:09 - Dec 26 by Fireboy2 | Yep we got the usual yellows whilst tbe opposition got none for similar or worse fouls. I am not usually into this anti wales stuff but after watching the last few games i am questioning my impartiality. |
I felt we went down faking injury less today, hopefully this will continue. I personally think we will get less decisions when we have a reputation for "going down too easily".

| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 19:36 - Dec 26 by RichardO | Ronald had the beating of Bidewell at time so why did we stop suppling Ronald with balls to feet? |
Im surprised that you didnt notice why. Bidwell backed off and didnt get tight to him when ronald had the ball, he didnt have a clue after that The problem we have with ronald is that he wants the ball early but we dont do that.

I was gonna mention what you said about the yellow cards, but I always criticise the refs

Coventry didn't impress me and I thought they were there for taking in the first 30 mins and the last 15 mins. Vipotnik and Cullen both missed chances. Definitely wouldn't have subbed Vipotnik unless he was injured?

Wasn’t happy with Matos tactics today. Too Martinesque and negative today. So many forward options not taken. But Cullen’s miss was absolutely horrific.

Was Vipotnik subbed to keep him for Oxford, in my mind a bigger game. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

So he had space because Bidwell backed off he started running at him getting corners had a poor shot but still he was an outlet then we stopped getting balls to him. Balls over the top with the centre halves doing a good job covering Bidwell.

Definitely, the way they are playing we need to be well up for it and therefore need our best team on the pitch. Id definitley be picking melker instead of franco and possibly start inoussa instead of ronald.
| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 20:53 - Dec 26 with 1518 views | jack_lord | Should have got something out of this game. I thought it was definitely happening when Inoussa came on. Cullen so close yet so far. The ref should be investigated - bookings for nothing fouls and conversely nothing for bookable fouls. Why do top teams in this league get virtually no added time at home when they are winning and ten minutes when they are losing. | |

| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 21:09 - Dec 26 with 1465 views | swancity | A decent performance but their goal was disappointing. As always with a long throw in the first contact is crucial and then if you fail to win the first contact you win the second ball and unfortunately we did neither this time butit was a good finish. Overall it was encouraging though. They are 13 points ahead of third spot already. We have the nucleus of a good, exciting team. Inoussa has something about him but it’s finding the right blend in that midfield now. Galbraith instead of Franco imo with a new right back next month if Key can’t get back to his best. | |

| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 21:15 - Dec 26 with 1439 views | nicky | Shocking incompetence from the “referee” compounded when he gave Coventry the ball after it hit him when we were in possession. Also for their goal the throw in was taken from the wrong position - taken further back to give a better angle but not picked up. Corners not given Fouls against us not given but a player in blue stumbling to the ground resulted in an immediate free kick. Shocking but sadly something we’ve seen week in week out for many years now. | | | |
| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 21:31 - Dec 26 with 1360 views | RichardO | Mason-Clarke the standout player for them, if you looked at the goal he pulls and spun Vipotnik around off the ball, Cabango attacking the throw in instead of the taller Burgess? They have scored lots of goals from set pieces we have concede too many, they had chances which we managed to defend against, we had chances that should have been seen off. If we play to our full potential we can be competitive against anyone, a couple of more considered balls instead of shooting from too far out and goals will come, happy to see shots on the edge of the box but not too far out. Our approach play is improving more to come hopefully, Nice to see Wales getting on the pitch. | | | |

We monitored it last season after bringing up the subject with Alan Curtis. Over 8 games, we were getting a yellow card every 3.5 fouls while the opposition were getting a yellow card every 8 fouls. Alan said he was going to forward the information, but it clearly hasn't made any difference.

| Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 08:38 - Dec 27 with 890 views | RichardO | Really need to sort the situation at rightback to sort the situation in the midfield, namely releasing Galbraith to play in the midfield. The question then would be where do you play Galbraith in that midfield. We have seen him hit thunderous strikes from the edge of the box but we have also seen him as a playmaker lying deeper enabling him to dictate and control us getting up field in a methodic way as we try and open up defence, speeding up the play with his passing and movement very much in the Leon Britton mode making space and time for himself but Stamenic is in that deep lying role? For me getting either one of them or both forward through the middle is essential while making sure they are covered to keep us sound in defence. We saw at times Coventry use the inside channel runners to good effect off good wingers like we have seen better organised teams use those channels to open us up to create goal scoring opportunities before, our two centre halves are very able at dealing with the aerial threat but we really need to ensure those inside channels are blocked which we did at times but that means we get pushed back deeper, which is fine as longer as our play out from the back is organised, I thought we got ragged later in the game our clearances not finding the men or the spaces up top, not picking the right options to work the ball, we seemed to become frightened to play the ball to the forwards feet or into space where they can hold the ball up to allow supporting players time to breakout from defence quickly , Vigouroux's clearances seemed poor not picking out any of our players in particular, we were feeding off scrapes instead of well thought out play at times. Did we become a bit intimidated and revert back to poor play resulting in our forwards being starved of the ball, not being clinical enough taking the chances as they should have been, everyone misses chances but good forwards will put the ball in the back of the net if given enough chances. We all have complained about slow passing across edge of the opponents box rightly so but we have now been making quicker attacks that an extra pass would get us into better scoring positions instead of shots from too far out. We caused them problems but let ourselves get pushed deeper, became ragged at times which led to the chances to get up field to be reduced. Coventry a good team who caused us problems but for the most part dealt with them. Another set piece not dealt with. [Post edited 27 Dec 2025 9:13]

Melker at ten until we find someone better. Yalcouye has earned a start based on his last few sub appearances. Franco to the bench. Inoussa needs the run of games that Ronald is getting. Cullen to the bench. And then off on loan somewhere.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

I would be very, very surprised if Cullen goes anywhere before the summer, even then I think it would be very doubtful. He is not everyone's favourite but is very well thought of by the club and it seems every manager we have. Personally I can't see him agreeing to a loan as he is very settled on a personal side and has just bought/buying a new house. If the club say they no longer want the Welsh International and squad member then so be it and they could try and sell him but I don't think he will go, he has a contract until 2028 and is a one club player a rarity today.

He won’t. Managers rate him even if fans don’t. On a more holistic point, people are picking their preferred players in each position but we’ve got seven games (six league, one cup) in January and our attacking players rarely finish games anyway. Cullen, Idah, Fulton, Yalcouye wouldn’t be in my starting eleven for a cup final, but they’ll all get plenty of football over the next few weeks. The first two will probably get the odd start.

He should have buried that chance he had with his head it was a certain goal. Watch how Callum O Hare scored with his head against Wrexham . Compare the two . Matos' reaction on the bench said it all.

I said in the prematch comments that set pieces could be key in this game .I was proved right Cov have scored more goals from set pieces than any championship team. I also said that we would have very few chances and that we would have to take at least one of them which proved true.

Yes, absolutely. That was a header all day long. It wouldn’t have even hurt. He’d done the hard part, finding and drifting into the gap between the two defenders. It’s frustrating, because that and the ball from Galbraith are 99% of the goal. Then he missed the open goal by not throwing his head at it

Why Vitor left him on that long only he knows, saving Zan for Monday is one thing but Cullen hadn’t done anything all game then missed a sitter, I’ve said before he wouldn’t get in any other championship team and should definitely not be starting a game in ours
