Vitor Matos : Time to go again for that first away win ? 21st Dec 2025 08:00
Swansea City head to the midlands on Christmas Day after training in preparation for their third away game under the guidance of Vitor Matos. Those two others haven’t been won so why not start this coming Friday against Coventry City ? 0

Swans lose but only just 26th Dec 2025 23:00
The Swans fell to defeat at the divisions top side this afternoon at Coventry City. The inconsistency and some would say a lot more of referee Sam Allison was shocking - as was the miss towards the end by Liam Cullen. 0

In wasn't just Cabango who marshalled Moore out of the game Galbraith helped and with Burgess dealt well with the balls that Moore did win, very early in the game when Moore had the better of Cabango and typical of his dad Josh Windass was playing off Moore making good runs and like his dad Dean was a threat, Cabango and all the back four eventually got to grips in doing their defensive role, to some extend Galbraith played like Britton did against Crouch ensuring the tall lanky player could not use some of their different skills at their disposal namely getting the ball down to their feet to bring other players into play while ours centrehalves dealt with the aerial threat. We are fortunate that Galbraith is exceptionally good in the air it is a skill that all footballers should have, Tymon and Vipotnik both seem to have up their game in that department.

As for Ronald being physically weak, he is not as we have seen by relatively good defensive displays, the same could be said of Parker when he was played like Ronald in both defensive and attacking roles.
Back to Ronald's weak playing, it is not as a winger he is expecting fullback to let him know they are there and test the winger especially early in the game. Ronald knows challenges are coming in and knows he is going to be fouled from behind and acts accordingly previously getting fullbacks booked for overly strong challenges, Ronald going down under a challenged is part of the game looking for fouls , Eom has , Widell has it is a part of the game that as fans of football no-one likes to see the over done with the theatrics but we know players are taught to try and influence the ref. The Championship is a more physical league in some ways and even in competition on the world stage referee's seem to be letting things go in the earlier stages of games until the initial confrontations settles down. As players and game skill levels of speed , thought and deed are higher , the dark arts of the game can be hard to interpret even with the use of VAR.
We have seen our players who need the tempo to be higher struggled to deal with balls they are expected to deal with instead of the ones that make the best of their undoubted skills, it does seem the ability to change that tempo quickly to go from slow measured play to quick incisive play has been evading us, we have been either been overly cautious or hell bent on getting players forward quickly throwing caution to the wind giving no thought to what the opposition can do.

Under Matos that has seemingly changed Tymon did not get forward as often ensuring the flank was well guarded against Wrexham, I though in that initial part of the game Inoussa needed to drop back quicker to stop the winger cutting back inside getting dangerous crosses in.
I though Stamenic, Widell and Galbraith were able to change that tempo quickly from the middle of the park to create problems which with the right play or control from
forwards should have resulted in more clearcut chances closer to the goals, we had caught Wreham out of position and didn't capitalise.
I'm sure Coventry will try and do the same but be more clinical but if we get parts of our game right which I think we are more than capable of I think the game will be more than a "free hit"

Reading the Wrexham forum they thought Windass was terrible, its all about opinions.

Windass got shut down as did the rest of their attacks for most of the game, a good team defensive performabce enhanced by a third home win.

This used to happen a lot in the early PL seasons. Opponents fans used to think they had an off day after they played us.

None of Wrexhams attackers looked particularly threatening because we shut them down. They didn’t play well because we didn’t allow them to

Interesting to see how the narrative on the game has shifted over the last few days.

Much of the commentary at the time was about how bad we were in the first half, but more people are now commenting on how well we managed Wrexham after a slow start. They were limited, but a lot of that was down to us.

Apart from the first 15/20 wd were clearly the better team.

It wasnt pretty but we shut them down whilst creating chances even though not many were clear cut.

It looks like matos had done his homework on wrecsam, im quite confident that he's going to do well with us.

Even early on, they didn’t really threaten us.

They were high intensity, committing in numbers and high up the pitch. It did rattle us and we couldn’t get our game going, but even then they didn’t look like breaking us down. Moore out jumping Cabango in the first couple of minutes was as good as it got for them until the OG

Yes Matos did his work well to suss Wrexham out we were comfortable for one point though lucky to get the three, as pointed out we control the game and made them look poor, games swing back and forth against good team but we don't want to throw a points away from good position as we have done.
At some point managers will try and suss Matos thinking out, let's hope he continues to outwit managers while making sure his team is set up to not throw points away and create our own luck by being sensible in the pursuit of the three.

I am looking forward to seeing how we fare agaunst a side that wants to olay foitball rather than use fouls and tactixs to slow the game and stop us playing football.
I think ( and hope) this is going to be a close encounter and one we could edge

Let's be honest Wrexham were poor and we were a little better we will have to improve a lot or ride our luck to get anything out of this game.

They won’t slow the game down but are good at the cynical ,cheating stuff ,stopping breakaways and counter attacks , tactical fouling they call it
Let’s hope for a fair ref ………. I say hope because I haven’t seen one all season

It seems that Coventry's squad has been under the weather recently ,seemingly due to a flu bug so maybe that could influence Lampard's team selection for Boxing Day.

Could/Should Matos throw a spanner into Lampard's plans and deploy a disciplined lineup to "park the bus", and go for 1 point? Maybe a 4-5-1 lineup of Viggie, Galbraith, Cabango, Burgess, Tymon, Stamenic, Franco, Cullen, Ronald, Yalcouye, & Vip? Or possibly Fulton for Yalcouye? Yalcouye & Cullen could be the designated chasers.

No, he should go for the win. Coventry have won just once in their last 4 games. Add in a sickness in their camp. Let's go for it.

Wrexham certainly weren’t poor. As their results have shown they are a competitive Championship outfit

We didn’t allow them to play. To prevent another championship club from having any goal attempts in the first half showed that we defended from the front with superb off the ball defensive work from all of the players. Cabango I thought was immense with the difficult task of keeping Moore quiet.

It seems that we might be playing Coventry at a good time with the disruption they have. It’s a big game for Grimes too as he’s shown his quality again this season. It should be an interesting but winnable game…

Exactly, when we win its because the other team is poor, when we lose we are sh!t.

I dont think some people realise how well we played against wrecsam, as you say we kept them quiet in front of goal, cabango was tasked with sorting his wales mate out and he did it admirably.

There arent many times we would have come bsck from being 1 down, before matos it wouldn't have happened, yes we got 2 scabby goals but imo we totally deserved them.

If we keep on this upward trajectory, we will comfortably stay up and possibly trouble the play offs.

No smiles and hugs between Cabango and Grimes in the tunnel which is good.

Decent start. Probably had the best chance so far overall (first time Vipi mun!). Coventry do look dangerous on the counter.

Mentality going to be a factor today I think.
