Is it too early to begin a SCFC summer transfer thread??!!

First up for the thread of probable non-sensical and fact-less targets, I give you Frank Magri of Toulouse.

Summer transfer thread!! on 02:56 - Apr 30 by Swanseafan2003

Steve Cooper left absolutely nothing even remotely good. He blew all of our limited budget on top loans who were no doubt cracking players but gave us absolutely no long term stability or assets to build on.

As you said atleast Martin gave us Downes, Wood, Obafemi, Ntcham and Piroe who were all sold for a decent profit and kept the lights on. He also oversaw one of the greatest moments in the clubs history with the doube doube.

Steve Cooper's one job was to get promoted and we all tolerated his terrible mind numbing football in pursuit of that. Yet he failed miserably twice and then had the audacity to have interviews before the playoff final.

I'm glad his career has turned to a complete failure since because the long term damage he did to this club took us a while to recover.

Bloody hell yes, his football was very poor at times, but I think he would have taken the Swans up had they given him the money at the time and a pay rise. None of it was big bucks. But they chose to run him out. Did the same with Martin, thick as mince the owners regards those moments.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

He did very well bearing in mind it was through covid to get us to the play off final, considering we were under tighter restrictions than England. Being at the final was surreal but regretful be we didn't give it a go. Some of the loans we incredible particularly when you see them playing now. But the football was dire.

I agree that the football was awful to watch. How much of that was down to the limitations on the players we were able to bring in with the financial restrictions at the time and him having to work with what he had I don't know (or remember).

But to say he failed miserably is a strange thing to say. Would we have been hysterically happy if we'd managed to reach the play offs this season ? Yes. And would we then be hysterically happy if we went on to reach the play off final ? Yes. Absolutely.

That's not failure. His job was to win as many games as possible.

We didn't expect to be in playoffs this season though so if we got it of course we'd see it as a success.

However, with the parachute payments and players we had back then it would have been catastrophic if we didn't get playoffs at a minimum.

The job of a manager in my opinion is one of two things. Instant success (i.e promotion/surviving relegation) or building/leaving a good foundation in place so the club is better off then when you took over it. Cooper failed on both accounts and had 0 respect for us by having interviews before the play off final.

Cooper a manager who took us to 2 play off where we lost twice to Brentford with a squad consisting of David Raya, Ivan Toney, Mbuemo, Janelt, Norgaard is hated byt the same people who have a love fest over a manager (RM) who took us backwards at an alarming rate whose only remit was to look out for himself regardless of results it brought to us

Literally hours after the play off final.

We reported this.

Steve Cooper will be given an ultimatum today. Stay and do your job - or go ! 2nd Jun 2021 08:00
In a Swansea Independent EXCLUSIVE we can reveal today that Steve Cooper will be given a simple ultimatum this morning, and it isn’t hard to understand. Quite simply Cooper, who has been stalling on his Swansea future with numerous clubs after his signature will be told very clear. You are under contract, talk to us about your immediate future as a Swansea City coach, or move on and make sure the club you speak to can compensate your leaving. 0

Nothing to do with his performances, he was ousted by previous owners the same as Russell Martin, regardless of what people think of him. The internet is a great time stamp 👍

We also had players who were far too good for the level aswell? Grimes, Roberts, Guehi, Ayew, Gallagher, Brewster, Gyokeres, Manning. These are all guys who have played or gone on to play in the premier league.

I certainly have no love for Martin aswell and he deserves (and certainly gets) his fair share of criticism due to his sheer arrogance/stubborness not only as a person but also hus style of play. However, the one thing you definitely cannot say is that we were in a worse position when he left then when he came in.

I give him credit that he played a major role in giving this club 40mill+ in saleable assets which we desperately needed at the time just to keep the lights on and it's hard to forget our first double over them lot.

When you consider their roles and expectations and limitations placed on them, Martin was a far bigger success than Cooper. One was tasked with getting us straight back up, while the other just had to keep us stable and financially afloat. One did their job and the other failed.

Just to update folks.
No player connected to the Swans to date has been approached, a couple maybe last summer, obviously there won’t be any activity until the window opens.

FLW etc will of course encourage people click on their reports that have in the main for the time we’ve been running this site absolute BS.

Sorry, what?

One of the most utterly indisputable facts about Martin is that we were in a worse place when he left than when he joined. For two years he had a squad easily capable of emulating Cooper's playoff finishes and the best he could manage was tenth, and we only did that because he panicked and stopped trying to make the idiotic style he'd failed miserably with work.

Martin is a serious contender for worst ever Swans manager purely down to just how badly he mismanaged the resources available to him. Others may have been useless for other reasons, but he has few excuses. He knew full well how to get the best out of the players he had but refused to do so in a laughably inept attempt to prove himself to be the smartest guy in the room.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Not really much of a discussion to be had. Anyone still advocating for Martin at this point given his two years with us and subsequent career needs a good long evaluation at Cockett Lighthouse.

When he joined we had 0 senior GKs, 0 recognized ST, 0 Wingers, 2 Dms (one of them being Grimes who had a year left at the time and was very likely to be sold), Naughton as our only RB, 2 senior CBs (one being Bennett).

All you have to do is go back and look at the team we put out against Blackburn it was really laughable it really was a team destined for relegation.

I can put away my biases and dislike for Martin in the pursuit of common sense and clearly see that the position he left us in was 30x better then the one he inherited.

As for our worse managers since relegations i'd say it goes.

Sheehan
Duff
Luke Williams
Cooper
Martin
Potter

Matos is too esrly too judge but so far I'd have between Luke Williams and Cooper.

Cobblers.

Any manager who can only muster a finish of 15th place despite having players of the quality of Piroe, Downes, Ntcham, Obafemi, Grimes, Paterson, Wolf, Naughton and Latibeaudiere (amongst others) available to him is utterly incompetent.

which proves if he hadn't have been such a melt and had the woe is me act after the transfer window ended despite being handed the top GS from the league below on a plate in the Jan window then we should have made the PO's as the squad was good enough.

The same Whittaker who never actually wanted to come back and even posted on bis social media at the time about it? He was only called back so the owners could cash in him aswell.

He then refused to play for us in order to try and force through a move. That doesnt exactly sound like somebody who was going to positively affect us.

Correct! Martin was acting like a spoiled child because he didn't get any recruits during the Jan window. By 1st or 2nd week in March he figured out that he didn't need any recruits, switched to a different formation in the back (going from 3 CB's to 2) and started his undefeated streak with 7 wins, 2 draws, and 0 losses. Should have made the playoffs but his petulance and hard-headedness kept the Swans out.
