Not sure why it’s been decided that trainee teachers from non white or other ethnic backgrounds can claim 5k to aid their training but white folk are exempt from the scheme, are their needs different?

I find the writing on the tv very apt to describe these 3.

There has to be some sort of discrimination issue with this. Where are all the human rights lawyers when we actually need them?

They should click on the "connection guide" in the white box, to understand how to connect with the Welsh public.

The dragon is facing the wrong way for starters. You think they’d have the intelligence at least to avoid such a rudimentary error.

The truth is that the education system indicates that white pupils are disadvantaged.

Key Examination Results (2024/25 Academic Year)
• GCSE Performance: Black, Asian, and minority ethnic pupils in Wales achieved an average Capped 9 score of 384.9 points, compared to lower overall scores for White pupils. Chinese pupils recorded the highest average ethnic subgroup score at 449.2 points.
• A-Level Performance: Black, Asian, and minority ethnic pupils outperformed White pupils at the highest A-A* grades by 4.9 percentage points, with Chinese students again leading at 43.4%.

That’s outcomes.

They’re not disadvantaged by the system, they’re disadvantaged because they don’t value education like many ethnic minorities.

Nit defending the policy at all, but it is imo of interest that in Wales there’s the % of people from ethnic minorities and the % that become teachers.

The children are disadvantaged, their parents may be the issue but the kids are disadvantaged the outcomes prove it.

Blaming the children is pretty poor.

Maybe people who don't become teachers, to use your argument, do not value being a teacher.

How are they disadvantaged?

Not children blaming - poorly written by me. I meant to allude to families.

It’s not just a wales thing, it’s mirrored across the UK.

Edit: fat fingers made my original post gibberish.

The last paragraph meant to show that the % of ethnic minorities becoming teachers is far lower that % of ethnic minorities becoming teachings. I’m not trying to score points, I just think it’s interesting and worth a look when recruitment is an issue overall.

Maybe it's a cultural ethnic issue that needs some investment.

Definitely.

The success of second generation immigrants is incredible.

What nobody has worked out fully yet is that this is peculiar to the uk. It’s not the same pattern across Europe.

Second generation the priority is breaking the chain of deprivation by education and giving yourself the best possible opportunities. Whilst in many cases that is not instilled in British mentality.

There's not a single political party that you could say that you'd hang your hat on, I do like the Tory leader in Wales Darren Miller, but I think the Senedd cat is further ahead in the polls than him
