For those at the game last night, how did he do?

C Roberts on 11:35 - Jan 18 with 5256 viewsSwansea93

He was decent, he was making good runs and always looked to go forward, I'd be starting him instead of Naughton IMO.

He had a good game but very much helped by Naughton who nursed him through the game. He panicked once which should have led to a Wolves equaliser, but he is definitely a player worth a good run in the team.

Was that the incident where Nordfelt should have saved it then pushed Roberts as he was clearing it?

Was it him who ran on to the delicious through ball from Bony which left him one on one with the keeper? Whoever it was, he toe poked it straight at the keeper from two yards instead of pushing it to one side or t'other and going round him. Not easy though, happened very fast and he was stretching.

Nordfeldt wants stringing up for that incident. He spilled the initial save, then incredibly spilled his attempt to gather it again with absolutely nobody near him. Connor did what he should have done and tried dealing with it himself to put anything beyond doubt and he had a screaming GK behind him.

No way he would have reacted like that to a more senior player; we need to give our youngsters as much encouragement as possible so that the continue to believe in their own ability.

Connor did that again last night, and my view stays the same as the last time we played Wolves; he was very forward thinking and made all the right decisions. Hopefully he will improve physically over time.

Not only a screaming goalkeeper but one who pushed him as he attempted to clear it, putting him off balance and resulting in the ball landing at the feet of the Wolves Player.

I think Mawson was shouting at Roberts after the incident too. That was out of order and even if Roberts had been at fault the players should know better.

Well Done Roberts.

I though he did very well.

Think it was him that put in a cracking hard tackle first half.

Although not at the game, I think his style reflects more on the way the U23s play most of the time.
They have had a more attacking game than the first teams for a couple of years now.
It is really good that he can feel confidence in his Manager to play his natural game.
Shame on the Senior players if they shouted "at him" instead of coaching him.

Shame on Mawson if he did that.
Not as if he's been mistake free this season. Imagine his reaction to Fernandez turning round & giving him a rollocking! Quickly losing faith in Mawson tbh!

Unfortunately his performances have been very promising, could be another excuse for not investing in that position yet again. Our weakness there has been a large factor in our plight.

The conditions for goalkeeping were dreadful, keep that in mind and give him a break

Absolute rubbish..players shouting at each other after a mistake is part and parcel of the game.
It’s important, especially with younger players to avoid lapses of concentration.

Tosh!

Academy product making his home debut. You don't rollock him for trying to deal with a situation that keeper should have sorted. You go over & applaud him & say don't worry son, keep your head up & keep playing.

Senior players need to help out youngsters, not discourage them.

Plus the fact that he has very little "game time" over the last few years. If we lose Fab for a few games he will be more than good enough.
Bony's pass was slightly overhit, so Connor had no chance other than to toe poke the ball, but it was one of several penetrating runs the full back did on the night.
Hopefully Connor is allowed a decent run of games.

Hopefully he doesn't get that movement coached out of him. Would have been under Clement (and Monk if they'd both been given more time at Boro).

Can understand what you're saying about Mawson giving him a bollo*king, bit harsh as he's new to the first team, and trying to build confidence, but we need to remember he's 22, that is not a kid in footballing terms.

To put it into perspective Shelvey was 21 when he signed for us.

I disagree wit this sentiment. They only way we would ever get a full back of the quality of Ben Davies would be to bring him through the youth system. In today's market market I'm quite sure you'd be looking at around £30m for Davies (home grown and all that).

We should not be bemoaning young players coming through because we wont go out and buy players. We should be bemoaning buying players because our young players wont come through.

Upthecity!

Not great if being honest. He hugged the touchline all game and very rarely beat his man. He was helped by them clearly targeting Carroll's side all match so he had little to do defensively.

He made a horrific mistake within 5mins of coming on at Newcastle and had an average game last night. He clearly isn't ready to start in league matches ahead of Naughton, who himself isn't good enough.

I was there last night. Thought he was average at best. Not helped by playing in a strange position, just in front of Naughton. Didn’t like the fact, he kept out stretching his arms, as if to say... it’s not my fault. Seemed to be blowing hard after 20mins, but did recover. Definitely not ready for The Prem.

Bloody hell 21, and we had him for 5m, crazy to think people thought he wasn't good enough for us.
