No slight on him as it’s obviously not his position but Cullen up front with Lowe and Ayew in wider berths better option. He could well play Roberts though to try and counter the threat of Rico Henry (who was injured yest I think) [Post edited 24 May 2021 9:14]

Yeah Henry always does well against us. If he's missing ot's a bonus. I can't see Roberts replacing Routs, he hasn't got the close control, the brain for the position. He's a Wing back, he'd be like a fish out of water.

Cullen is going to score the winner 👠

That’s the Ayew role, not the Routledge role. Plus Cooper plays them on the opposite wing to their dominant foot so they can cut in and shoot, no way would Roberts play in Lowes position. Cullen for Routledge is the most likely option. The front three won’t be as fluid but it will have more goal threat.

Roberts came on early in the 2nd half for Routs the other day against Barnsley, Cullen didn't, the scoreline might have had something to do with it, but Cooper had a choice when Routs went off and he brought Roberts on. If Routs is out on Saturday will he start Roberts for Routs or Cullen, I don't know what he will do but it was interesting that he brought Roberts on against Barnsley when we lost a forward player relatively early in the game.

Good point T - plus bearing in mind Brentford are a lot better than Barnsley & carry a more potent goal threat suspect a more defensive swap out for Routs is highly likely. If we try and play Brentford in their attack minded style we will get well beaten, we need to play to our resilient, awkward & combatant style to try to stay in the game & hope Ayew can work his magic in/around the box. It seems Cooper has now switched to a 4 at the back system so whilst I personally would prefer the switch back to 3-5-2 with Roberts in for Routs to accommodate that switch I suspect Cooper will stick with his current formation so Roberts or Cullen look the obvious choices, although you can make a case for Dhanda as being more similar to Routs in style if not experience.

We were winning away from home in a game we would have gladly drawn. To be honest when he made that change I thought we were going 532. Routledge is quite integral in that 433. He drifts to either wing and switches with Ayew and Lowe. His give and go’s with Ayew are great too. Cullen doesn’t do that, but he is a much better finisher. If we stick with it, I’m sure it will be Cullen. Wouldn’t be overly surprised to see 532 though, in which case Roberts would obviously start.

Coopers team selection and formation all depends on how brentford have been forming up in recent games. I suspect w@nks will be his usual arrogant self and go gung ho and I think cooper will go 3 5 2.

The point is could Cooper go 442 with Roberts being a wide midfield player or 433 with Roberts being one of the the three forward players, modern systems are very fluid and not rigid these days, I will be interested to see if we play a back 4 and Roberts starts the match but is not one of the back 4. I really hope he doesn’t. Playoff finals aren’t the time to be shoehorning players into positions they don’t suit. He’s a phenomenal wingback. If we go 532 he’s guaranteed.

9 times out of 10 I would agree with you but Connor can pull it off he is so good going forward and has tremendous workrate, I would back the manager if he goes for it.
