Let's hope in the time away from playing RM will have had a rethink about his formation and I really hope that they knew in advance about yerniteds plan to take laird from us.
If it was a season long loan with a clause to take him back with a specific notice period then we will have known about laird being recalled therefore giving the scouting team time to source a replacement. |  | | |

Don't disagree. Martin could have tried coaching someone into that role with a pre-season to work on them but there isn't time to do it now. In time I think the likes of Cancelo, TAA, Reece James etc. will have an influence on full back/wing back play for youngsters and coaches but that time isn't now.
Looking for a LWB as well as a replacement for Laird on top of other positions and integrating them all into the team is a very big ask in this window. January window is notoriously difficult and Covid will have a further impact.What was always going to be a tricky recruitment job has become significantly more difficult. Martin may well be forced into a change of plan, which is why I suspect we will end up shopping for an attacking right back on loan.

I've said it elsewhere, yes our plan needs to be re-evaluated but likewise our formation and strategy.
I think we'd find it much easier to go flat back 4 then try and bring in players good enough to replace Laird and a new LWB too.
4-1-3-2 looks a decent bet to me. We'd still need another striker and another full back for sure.
And repeating myself from weeks back but if our wing backs are so high up they can't defend anyway, why not give proper wingers a go,maybe bring Garrick back and find a left winger from somewhere? | |

Martin is most definitely going nowhere, we have regressed at an unacceptably shocking rate. 16th and plummeting, with the very worst form in this league. Unheard of in recent heady times.
Some of us are furious that we're in this humiliating predicament after so much success.
Shame on the unthinking that to this day still bury their heads, chewing the festering cud.
Fortunately the decision makers aren't burying their heads like some of our challenged passive supporters.
