Our tourist selling point is the tangible link from the past to the present. We can't expect people to spend their cash in Eastbourne rather than the cote d'azur.
I'm no royalist but the queen is a good egg, and her passing will be the end of an era. Perhaps get rid of the hangers on and the vast excesses that come with them but we need to keep the monarchy in some shape or form. | | | |

I've said for a while that I think when the queen passes Charles will only take the throne for a short while in order to streamline the family - removing the hangers on and then passing the crown to William.
I have no issue with a Royal Family that can demonstrably add value to the tourist industry. | | | |

I'm hoping to have a few days paid holiday, one for the funeral and one for the resulting coronation, whether that will be the case for workers I've no idea.
Nobody lives forever and she has had a good innings, held the royal family together for decades, but when somebody has had a long life and a good life without too many traumas then I think that life should be celebrated and not mourned.
