... And then outgoing. 😃 They've bought Josh Bowler from Blackpool, and then sent him out on loan to Olympiacos - Forest's sister club. EDIT ... Plus talking to players 21 & 22. [Post edited 1 Sep 2022 19:12]

| Forests 19th signing on 20:00 - Sep 1 with 2212 views | ploppy | They're signing Batshuwa-wa-wa apparently. Now, this isn't sour grapes re Cooper, but any promoted team that spends what they've spent, and basically overhauled their entire squad, deserves to be relegated and fall foul of FFP. And then whatever happens as a result. It's bonkers. | | | |

Why? Have you said the same about Brighton then? They have spent 3 times as much since they got there. If Cooper manages to keep them up then their income from two seasons combined dwarfs their player acquisition outgoings. Not to mention once you survive, you then have 3 newly promoted teams beneath you from that point onwards. Cooper got them up despite what was a pretty average Championship team. I said last season that should they go up they would need a complete overhaul - that’s what we are seeing. Fair do’s to them. People complain when owners don’t back their managers and then complain when they do.

Cooper seems to have most of his costly new signings on the bench. Better to integrate them as soon as possible I would think.

Next 2 matches before the international break are week Monday Leeds away and Friday Fulham home both winnable, but should he lose them both the writing will be on the wall.

Signing so many players at such great cost is crazy, it'll take time for any player to bed in and the more new faces the longer the squad takes to adjust. They've spent around 137 million on fees and what does that translate to in wages? If they come back down straight away they could be in big trouble. I know they lost 20 players but even so, it's daft. Maybe the thing there is to not loan in so many players. Too many loans is a short term fix that can end up being damaging, it certainly didn't help us after Cooper had left, we had decent young players who hadn't been developed and it left us short.

Forest and Cardiff city have both completely redrawn their players roster over the close season. Both are struggling. It might take a couple of months for things to settle down and players to find their feet. Harder for Cooper obviously with stern tests every week

| Forests 19th signing on 23:36 - Sep 4 with 1686 views | majorraglan | I’m staggered Forest have spent as much as they have, but they’re determined to have a bash at staying up and who knows it may pay off, but it’s a big ask. They’re in a relegation mini league with Fulham, Bournemouth, Leicester, Everton and potentially Villa, Wolves and Leeds. I think Brentford and West Ham will be mid table. It’s very early days, but if as seems likely (based on current form) they go down they should have a few assets they could sell on for a tidy fee and will have a squad that would probably “walk” next year’s Championship. If I were the owner, in the event of relegation I’d stick with Steve Cooper as his first 3 years as a manger proved very successful. | | | |

Their fans seem to be in agreement that in the case of relegation he will be the best man to take them up, especially with the squad they will have and his record of getting teams into the playoffs. It will take a few games for the new players to settle, some didn’t even play in the last game. You would expect them to be firing after the international break - if not then they will struggle and will have a fight on their hands. But from what I’ve seen so far they look a decent outfit, very attacking. Cooper needs to stamp more of his defensive mindset into the new players and build from that base. I think their trajectory will be very much similar to Brighton’s. lots of spending early on to get rid of the championship quality players, 16th and 17th placed finishes before cracking it and climbing the league.

Head of recruitment doesn’t sign off on players, they simply source them. I’d say almost none of these players would be Swansea players had we gone up, we wouldn’t have the finances.

If he can adapt to the EPL then maybe but Forest need to continue spending big and FFP is always there. What if Cooper turned out to be the new Warnock? Can get a team promoted or be thereabouts but can't keep one up? It'd still make for a decent career.

"If I were the owner, in the event of relegation I’d stick with Steve Cooper as his first 3 years as a manger proved very successful." Coopers contract is until the end of the season, the club have put a new one on the table that he won't sign for some reason. He may well not be there next season.

He might well be the best suited to get them back up should they be relegated but surely the aim is to stay up and steadily build from there. If there’s a chance that changing the manager can achieves survival then Cooper will be toast by Christmas

Of course, but that isn’t always easy as a newly promoted side with a whole new squad. Cooper has never had a bad season in his career, so it’s no more likely that anyone else has a better chance of keeping them up. So may as well stick with the man the fans love who has a track record of success, with the best chance of taking them up should they take too long to get going this season. He is their greatest manager in their modern history. I’d say outside of Pep, Klopp and Potter - he is probably the safest manager in terms of job security, regardless of the owners reputation.

Their next 5 games could well define their season because they’re against teams that you’d expect them to be competitive against but they then go into a run of games against teams that would be expecting to win. As we all know too well, fans are a pretty fickle lot when it comes to loyalty towards managers

The problem there is that whatever they've paid this season, these players will see their value drop if Forest go down. Not many clubs stick with a manager if they go back down, Cooper would ikely be gone by January if they are in trouble. Isn't it always a relegation mini league? The top 4 are in their own battle, the next 4/5 are battling it out for a Europa place and anybody else could be fighting relegation.

" Never had a bad season in his career" - a whole three seasons ( one of which we lucked into the playoffs at the last minute and one we beat a poor Barnsley side in the semis and failed to compete in the final ) ? "He is their greatest manager in their modern history." - hardly had any competition over many years? Honestly your love fest with Cooper and Forest is becoming a bore. This season will show his true mettle and I believe he will be found wanting. He has had a virtually open chequebook and has to produce the goods.
